How do I use an embryo
  • I was gifted 3 embryos and have no idea how to use them or if I can. I'm a basic upgrade and have several u bred mares left

  • Go to the Advanced Breeding Lab. Over on the top right you will see "Implant Embryos". Click that and it should give you a drop down list of the embryos you own and another of your unbred mare. Pick one of each, name the foal to be and hit create! It costs 4K per embryo.

I'm pretty sure your mares have to be in barns to use them for this, same as any other use of mares in the breeding lab.

Nothing about the mare you use as a "recipient" mare will impact the foal--not Era, not genetics, not anything, so any unbred mare of breeding age works as a recip. Please note it will start from the back of the alphabet to pick mares. This is why a lot of us maintain a recip herd with a prefix that is some form of Z, so they show up first for us!

I think there may also be a way to use a mare up for public brood as a recip mare but have never tried it and can't step you through the process!

As far as I'm aware embryos don't go bad in game, so if you can't use them til January you'll be fine! And of course there are none of the pesky complications involved in embryo transfer in real life to jam up the works either!
  • When I go to the "implant embryo" it give me 2 boxes. On is empty and the other gives me my unbred mares. I have 3 eggs from this mare

If I go to "sell straws\embryos" it shows her but no where else

  • An egg isn't an embryo. An egg is an egg. An unfertilized egg cannot produce a foal. Or a baby. Or anything else except an omelette (or menstruation in humans, but we won't go there).

If you were gifted eggs, not embryos, you will need to fertilize them to get a viable embryo->fetus->Foal.

Go to the Advanced Breeding Lab and go to Create Embryo in the middle at the top. There will be two options there. The one on top let's you create and harvest an embryo from a mare you own and a straw. In real life this option is often used for high performance mares--girls used for showing, often at top levels--so they can produce foals and still keep training and competing. This is important since our highly talented mares have such a significantly lower potential to produce offspring than our highly talented stallions (because she can only naturally produce 1 baby a year and he can produce as many as he can successfully cover mares)

The bottom option is the one you want. It lets you create a test tube foal with a harvested egg and a straw. The embryo is then preserved until you are ready to implant it using the method described above.

If you have any further questions about this either in the game or real life, I am happy to attempt to answer. I don't work in equine veterinary medicine, and my small animal practice sees little planned reproduction, but I still remember some of the basics and can certainly give you a basic step by step through the process. Much of it is also relevant to human reproduction.

  • I was hoping it wasn't too snarky but would come across tongue in cheek as it was meant! I've been up since 3:30 am because the dog cornered a possum in the kitchen.....no harm done but I'm a bit tired!
  • It was fantastic lol I've had a really rough day and that brightened it.
And it worked! Little guy got gelded :\ but I now have a very pretty pearl show pony

  • He's so pretty and I have 2 pearl eggs left so fingers crossed for an intact one.
Do eggs expire? The other 2 eggs are higher generation and I want to make sure I have the perfect straw for them

  • As far as I'm aware neither eggs nor straws expire unless the original owner has set them to. You would see that information on the list next to them on your sales page for sure.
  • Since there's no number I'd say no expiration! Perfect and thanks again for the help
