Consistency auto geld/spay question
  • I am not sure how the auto geld/spay works with Consistency test. I think, I have always left the auto geld/spay button checked. I have had 3 or 4 of new creates that have not been automatically gelded/spayed, if they show up as Inconsistent. I thought if they are Inconsistent, they are automatically gelded/spayed. Am I wrong in thinking that, or could it be a bug? Or could I have accidently unchecked the auto geld/spay button? I know for a fact. It is the horses I have created on my Mobil not my laptop or tablet, so I could have Fat Fingered on my Mobil. Thanks in advance. Any help is appreciated.

I also just noticed it is happening with some of my lined horses that are Inconsistent. They are being left intact.
  • My guess is that you accidentally unchecked the auto geld button.

  • I was correct in thinking that it does automatically geld/spay then?
  • Yes. In my experience it does always geld/spay inconsistent horses unless you uncheck the box.

At least it is easier to geld/spay ones accidentally left intact than it is to do the reverse.

  • Thanks, I thought it must have been that I Fat Fingered, and the box got unchecked on my Mobil. It sure is easier to spay/geld when I did that. I have only made that mistake, the other way once, and that was in the old Stock Horse game, before WHG. I was still sick about it, years later......
  • Am I the only one who doesn't bother consistency checking my horses? I figure with the new showing payoff system an inconsistent horse will still earn points and make me money over their lifetime.
  • Question, dark star. So, you don't do the consistency tests at all? I do have Inconsistent horses left intact, mostly by accident, because of the button checking part. In your opinion, it hasn't made a difference in money making? But what about with breeding them to get progeny that make money? I have a couple of my early new creates that I left intact, because I didn't have the money to create more. Their progeny have been half and half on making money.

I have also experimented with leaving stallions intact that paper lower than their sire. If the comparison test say they are 'as good as' their sire. So far anyway, I am getting more money making progeny from them than I figured I would. But, it was mostly because I couldn't afford the comparison tests. And I couldn't do the mare strict advice, because I wasn't a high enough level until recently. Now I am trying to go through the mares I already had, and spay. What are your opinions/advice on the comparison and strict mare advice, now that I can do those tests? I mean I am getting money making progeny from older stallions that papered lower than their sires. It is all experiments in breeding money making progeny so far though. I have gelded several stallions that didn't produce money making horses once they reached breeding age.
  • I also do not bother with consistency except occasionally on stallions. It seems to me that inconsistent horses should still be money makers with the new showing system. I also find that even my inconsistent mares tend to throw consistent foals when bred to the right generation stallion (especially if he's consistent), so I figure long term my inconsistent numbers will fall naturally. However, I haven't been around long enough to be able to tell if my theories work.
  • Thanks Kaquel. Yeah, same here. I really didn't do much for the first year I was over here. I was still doing a lot in WHG. And I just joined HJ2 because of the colors and patterns at first. I couldn't get a handle on what/where/which were the best classes to enter and so on. So I only had a couple of stallions and a few mares. It wasn't until recently that I got my level 5. I am just starting to see the results from leaving stallions intact that paper lower than their sire. I have a three or four progeny, from two of my stallions mentioned above, that are producing money makers. More are not making money, but I am still just testing theories on that.
  • I don't consistency test much, although I do prefer my stallions to be consistent. Low PT's are often a sign of inconsistency anyway, and I might test them to check.

Definitely use all the gelding and mares advice. I like to know the quality of my stallions and only keep the colts that compare the best. This isn't necessarily something that paper higher than sire, as there is a bit of a range for each paper level
  • I don't really keep non-intact horses, so I don't actually pay much attention to who makes money and who doesn't. My mares spend a few years in the pastures breeding then they hit the barns as show horses, and get tossed back in a pasture for just a day to make me "for profit" babies.

By keeping only intact mares as the majority of my horses I believe I make far more HB's per stable slot per month than if I had sterilized horses taking up those slots. My mares earn me around 60k per week from points. They also earn me over 1 million HB's per month having babies that go straight into the auction. 500 geldings would have be pressed to earn me 1M HB's a month.
  • Thanks dark star, that gives me a lot of info on getting to the point of making more money from showing.
