Value of exper vs regular Rank Specials
-
I'm wondering if anyone active on HJ1 has experience with the value of different rank specials.
I'm going to GMT snowflake onto a colt, and need to decide who. I'd also like to add DP and a couple of other things, and have a couple of regular perfect foundations that would be great candidates - a dark chocolate and a blackest night, among others - that already have a couple of the things I'm looking for. Would the value of a snowflake stallion be significantly less if he's not an exceptional?
Thanks in advance! -
I'm not on HJ 1, so I can't speak from that stand point.
What I will say is this. New things are always worth more when they are new.
That said, basically the new ExPers are roughly gen 2 quality, meaning that mixing ExPers and normal creates at foundation generation is going to result in more spayed or gelded foals. Until there are enough ExPers out there for people to make entire pastures of ExPer foundations, I suspect there is going to be a lot of frustration with using them.
If you want to go down the ExPer rabbit hole and basically start lines from scratch, then extensively GMTing your ExPers makes sense. If you want a new GMTd stallion to have wide appeal to the general public in the next few months, it may make more sense to stick to normal perfect foundations. It is going to take time for those of us that want to dabble in ExPer quality lines to build up herds of mares to be able to breed to these stallions. In the mean time I suspect that I will be getting a lot of shiny show ponies from my new ExPer mares... -
That's kind of what I was thinking, thanks. Figured I may keep my exper mares in my barns (instead of letting th build up a pasture bonus) and use them for breeding with straws, since they have a higher breeding ability.
I don't want to cash in on a new stallion, more of I'd like to be able to trade straws, foals, etc. and don't want to be at a disadvantage there. At this point I'm thinking I'll go for a regular RS. -
I have an exper stallion I can get straws from starting next month if those with mares want to. As it is, instead of continuing to pair down my found mare herd I got a bunch more so hopefully I will get a few nice foals next month. It will be really sad testing those colts though.

Goooood point Cheers I hadn't thought of that. Its going to take a little while to build our exper mare herds up. I was going to GMT a new KP boy and was thinking of using an exper stallion but its better to wait and just use a Rank Special that isnt exper. I'll still make one of my boys exper just not the one I'm going to GMT right this second!

Having an exceptional stallion is a great way to boost your lines, even if everything else you have is just regular creates. I've had two B papered foundation stallions in HJ2, and they have been the founders of my best lines. Never had an exceptional mare in HJ2

Denali--this is why I made my first ExPer colt a one year old. It gives me time to decide on his GMTing but it also gives me time to build a mare herd for him. I certainly am not accusing you of cashing in! But to use an ExPer stallion on regular mares with the full pasture bonus is going to be frustrating enough...using straws or live cover is going to significantly up your alter rate again. I think GMTd boosted stallions will have lots of value and I definitely look forward to swapping for straws, eggs and foals, but there is going to be some short term pain.
Wildland--I would be interested in a couple of straws to use in my ExPer or ExPro mares just to see how they go.
Moon--yep, that's my current plan!
Kintara--as you know I am a massive massive fan of the offspring of the few B foundations in the game previously and will continue to cherish and damn near worship my Dark Pearl, Khanjar Rose and Ability Bells offspring for their high quality. Dark Pearl has definitely been the most influential stallion in my herd (I'm so excited for those other two to throw their first crops next season!). But even with full pasture boost, I have a higher spay and geld rate with those boys. I love it because I can weed out a ton of mares, but it will be frustrating for a lot of players. Especially those who aren't able to afford upgraded testing and lots of pastures to take advantage of the pasture bonus.
