How did this colt pass SBA?

Or more correctly how did his sire throw a high enough number for the foal to pass SBA?

I was only SBAing the colts, I was expecting some low blues. But that dam is a HIGH Blue... Doing some reverse bootstrapping so I could my closed genes up to star paper a little sooner.

Or maybe she isn't as high of a blue as I thought? But I normally expect stars from 5G so I wouldn't think she would be that far behind.

(absolutely no pasture bonus I might add)

His first mushroom 2G A colt! The other two stallions has 105% and 103% breeding, and he still got more lucky today.

(Wish this colt looked a little prettier though)

It's possible the dam is a mid blue rather than high blue, since both of her parents are out of A/red pairings. (SBA does allow for the foal to be very slightly worse than the highest parent, though not by much).

In short, though, it just happens sometimes! You got lucky, and the colt is gorgeous. :)

If you're worried about quality, I'd backtrack through the dam's line and comp test all of the boys. If there's any stagnation there, you'll catch it that way.

True... I did already geld her sire for some reason. And I’m starting to put 3G reds in the bootstrap herd instead. And Livings clone is going to get boosted before bred. So I guess that makes sense. But still seems weird! I love when weird things happen

Haha, yes! Hey, the advantage of her being a lower blue than you thought means you got a stunning colt that might otherwise have been snipped! Congrats :P

Is it bad that I do that for every closed gene?

BTW maybe someone would want to look up highest papers on a ice14 and macchiato..... So proud I can't contain myself.

haha you dont have to worry, im sure i wont get a gold mushroom mare for a looong time! by the way.. how long did it take you to get a gold machiato/i14 filly?

Thank you! I have a rule to never make a mare a stallion, but.... Can you imagine have her as a stallion and she could cover my bootstraps and would get priority on all of my 5G mares.

Can't really count the macchiato as I purchased a lot from other people.

Also I think I got lucky as my other foundations have been breeding longer and I have no gold/star descendants.

But...

My ice14 stud aged up 12 months ago.

I have a Star SplM that I bought from Lally from a very uneven line. I got a Gold filly by him out of one of my bootstrap Blue mares (that was actually a mostly even mare).
I have some Blue het Mushroom mares that I hope will give me higher Blues or maybe Golds.

Most of my mushrooms are only mid Blue/A at 3G so I think I'm going to lose the race. :(. I just now got a 2G A mushroom stud (thank you Kintara), but this was my first season with him.

But after axiom green I am only going to buy new closed genes.

I was doing a bit of playing around to get my bootstraps a little flashier - and one of those foals was a gold filly, had potential to be het mu but missed it! Just my luck, lol! :))

Oh man! Bummer!

Since I buy a lot of warm bloods for my bootstrap herd, and I wanted to start getting RH and draft horses so I chose my 2 extreme lowest weights with a decent paper and that happened to be one of my thunderstruck, so now there’s a lot of thunderstrucks in the show herd. No stars/blues yet. ;(. (The other light stallion just happened to be one of my favorites. High A, hom KP, tall satin and pretty DP dark silver bay Appaloosa, boy does he cross well with my show herd)
