so i bred this colt the otherday i saw he had Sooty+ how much would a horse with that gene go for?

The best way to find out would probably be to start a forum auction for him and let buyer competition decide what he's worth. :)

I don't think he is worth that much either way, sadly. He is not compared to sire, and his sire is not compared to sire, and his grandsire is not compared to sire. So basicly, he could be only AGA his great grandsire.

Yeah, I didn't say it was your "fault" or anything, I was just pointing out that it brings his sale price down quite a bit no matter what genes he carries.

OK. So if I got his sire and compared him would that bring his value up?

Yes, if he was superior :) But even more so if he was from an all superior line. I never keep anything that is not superior to sire, except maybe if it is a very desirable color that is higher papered, but still only AGA, and his sire has not given me any superiors.

Do you have a 5th gen horse you could compare him to? I tend to compare against a benchmark stallion of the same generation rather than against their sire.-

I own Baya's colt's sire, and his grand sire. I compared those two, and they are 'as good as,' if that helps. I am only keeping him intact because he has sooty+ which is a color I am experimenting with.
