Strict Breeding Advice Questions
  • So for Christmas I got a premium upgrade for the first time and I am really excited to start using SBA as I have way too many horses. So which herd helpers are guaranteed to pass SBA? I know RS will but will ExPros always pass or Perfect Foundations? I just don't want to put any special horses through SBA and have them not pass.
  • Perfect foundations and ex pros always pass. I believe that for foundations only low or mid C/ yellow and below gets snipped.
I was jllewis on the old forum.

    Stable ID 88
  • And for lined horses, any of yours that are a paper above both parents (so red out of c/yellow or blue out of b/red, etc) should automatically pass too.
ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
  • Thank you both! Already started going through with the snipping scissors (insert evil laugh!) :-))
    Thanked by 1Lallyhop
  • Not every RS will pass. I've had some very painful snips. Just the ones that are PF or ExPro are guaranteed.
  • @SeldomSeen I thought all RS were guaranteed to be PF or Expro. Are there ones that aren't?

    I thought so, too..... :-/

  • I have never had a RS fail SBA... what RS didn’t pass?
Watercolor, Chinchilla, Axiom, Nexus, Wrong Warp, Nacre, Ice 5/8, Satin and Pearl
  • I've had every RS pass, including clones of RS horses?
    #4519
  • RS always pass. And expro, experf, PF and TNP. Lined horses that are papered higher will still be snipped if they are very inconsistent though.

  • All RS are PF, ex pro or ex perf, they all pass. Things like Blackout, the brindle create day, etc, those are not technically RS and those dont always pass.

  • Thanks for the info everyone! I've already started the culling. Some of it is so hard but my herds will thank me later!
  • Another question for y'all. Do you run every horse in your barn through SBA or do you let some have a pass and only run them through BA?
  • Me personally I put them all through SBA....before I even look at the prettiness lol

  • It depends on the line! Some, like the ones I get as embryos (because I made a mare and not a stud, like my mushrooms) the mares get BA and the colts get SBA. I wouldn't have any mares to work with if I started with SBA off the bat! When my lines get bigger it'll be an easy way for me to cull them down a bit there.

On the other hand, my thunderstruck/watercolor experf boy... all his foals get mercilessly SBA'd! I'd have too many if I didn't! The 2G colts also have to paper A to stay.

And of course my bootstraps - SBA would snip them! I run all the colts and leave the fillies untested. They get judged by paper instead :3

  • YES....Don't SBA your Bootstrap lines. Done that mistake a couple of times LOL

  • Depends on the line, but pretty much everything is chucked through SBA before I even open their page for the first time.

The only two lines I don’t SBA is the BS line as they’re still in their baby days. And my mixed 6g + pasture. That pasture is thrown through BA as I still haven’t sorted it out fully. And I need high golds to replace my aging mares.

  • I SBA everything except the fillies from my bootstrap line. In everything else, quality is always paramount.

  • Thanks everyone for your explanations! For lines I know I have too many horses in I think everyone will get SBA. I may be more lenient with up and coming lines and straw/egg babies. I think I will just have to experiment to see what works best for me.
