Did I do something wrong?
  • I bred my Heart Of The Holidays mare to another one and got a gelding out of them...I am so confused. Aren't RS's the perfect foundation horses? If there's something missing please do tell.
    The foal in question...

  • Just because both parents pass breeding advice doesn’t mean all of their foals will. You will always have some foals that don’t pass if they are of worse quality than their parents, it’s just luck sometimes. Pasture bonuses help too!

  • So horses have a range that they can throw. They can throw similar to themselves, better, or worse. The best way to get a horse to pass BA is to match breeding ability (papers) as close as possible and then hope for the best. Even if you breed two perfect foundations together you can have bad luck and end up with a "dud".

What the pasture does is that it gives mares (and only mares) a bonus for every day they're in the pasture, capping out at 30 days. Every day a little bit of the "end range" of the mares ability is covered up, so that they can throw better and better foals. You can still end up with duds from pastures, but you're more likely to end up with foals that not only pass BA but could be better than their parents

  • Ahh okay that makes total sense and should have been obvious to me, lol! It's almost midnight here so how should I know? Thanks for making it clear to my cloudy brain.
  • No problem! We all run into bumps and brain farts, even us "experienced" folks. Being tired also tends to play a huge part too!

  • Lol, yes, playing tired can be a mess! Last time I was up past my normal bedtime, I managed to not only mass flush a mare instead of pull eggs, but I spent half an hour sorting horses and linking them in a private message - and when I woke up the message had not been sent and was nowhere to be found. I’m still not sure how I managed that! :))

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
  • Yea I see that it's a trend around here. The whole messing up cause your tried. I've heard some pretty wacky stuff happen.
  • We're just all too addicted to this game to go to bed at sensible hours =))

  • I know for sure that I set up a Secret Santa chat with gifts for my person last week, but when the time came I couldn't find it anywhere. :P I remember deleting a chat because I didn't need it anymore, but surely I needed that if the gifts weren't actually taken yet? XD
  • Hey, if I'm awake, I may as well check on my horses! lol
