Doctor Appointment
-
So i have a doctor appointment tomorrow for my knee and would appreciate some good vibes and prayers. About 2-3 weeks ago i was sprinting out the front door to chase my horse out of her pasture-mates grain bucket and as i ran out the mud room door, my ring got hooked on the doorknob and the sudden cease in forward momentum sent me flying to the concrete garage floor. Since then my knee has continued to feel super uncomfortable and so i finally set an appointment to get it looked at. I am praying it's nothing serious, but also really really hoping it's not tendinitis because there isn't anything that can be done if it is (i have it in my elbow and hand and all i can do when it acts up is ice). Even just sitting is uncomfortable and trying to fall asleep takes forever.
Also, i am going to mention another symptom of something i have been dealing with for 5.5 years. Long story short-ish, i got sick, like super sore throat/summer cold sick, in June 2013 and even after i got better, a wheezy constant cough remained. Doctors haven't been able to tell me what's wrong. I've seen at least 5 different doctors and I have had chest xrays, breathing tests, my throat scoped, been allergy/scratch tested and been on 8 different medications including 2 different inhalers. Back in February, Valentines Day to be exact, i had my stomach scoped and had a monitor placed in my esophagus to measure acid levels after a new symptom had appeared late last year. It seemed like my stomach spontaneously filled with air like an internal hiccup (super hard to describe the actual sensation). Every single test has come back normal. Every time i have been told nothing is wrong with me. One doctor even told me it was all in my head and that i should see a psychologist. WELL! A new symptom has started recently which has moved up to my ears. It feels basically like i'm trying to push air out of my stomach and up through my ears, if that makes sense. So gonna talk to my regular doctor about it again and maybe see if there is anything else we can try. :( I just wanna live normally again so prayers appreciated.
If you read that all, you are amazing lol -
I read it all. Apparently I'm amazing. Not as amazing as you, though! I'll keep you in my thoughts, for sure! Praying isn't something I do, really (no one kill me), but I'll for sure keep you in my thoughts! I have tried to pray, yes, but upon some recent things going on, I just kinda gave up.Love,

Thoughts and prayers are definitely with you! I have tendinitis in my Achilles’ tendon, and I completely feel your pain with that. I also really hope the doctors can make some headway with your other medical concern. It’s always discouraging to know something is not right, and be told it’s all in your head or you are making it up. Good luck tomorrow!Thanked by 1AHayesHorses

I know how frustrating it is when you know something is going on in your body and the docs say you are fine..also totally understand the tendinitis! I have it in my elbow as well, some days driving my car is awful, let alone doing chores.
I really hope you are able to get some answers and feel better soon!Thanked by 1AHayesHorses -
Here's hoping for knowledgeable doctors and helpful advice & treatment. This account inspired by Cherry Drops.

Oh I'm so sorry your knee feels so weird! Sending you hopeful and healing vibes!
Idiopathic symptoms/illness are SO frustrating, I'm so sorry you are dealing with that too! I'm wondering ... have you considered getting a referral to a neurologist? I know it's sort of a weird suggestion, but ... well, I get migraines, and migraines have a lot of really strange, seemingly unrelated symptoms, and it's because the "headache" is actually happening in your nervous system rather than in the muscles or veins or sinuses. Anyway, I don't actually think you have migraines lol but, I just wonder if there is something agitating your nervous system that is then sending out signals that cause all these symptoms? Whatever the case, I hope you find an answer sooner than later!~ Drafts 4 Lyfe~Thanked by 1AHayesHorses -
I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers as well.
On a practical note, I'm not sure it would help with tendinitis, but my brother-in-law, who is a physician, recommended that I try a joint cream that he uses himself for my sciatica, which is a nerve/muscle issue. Surprisingly enough, it does help, along with changing my sleeping posture, for that, and it was also effective for healing a bruised tendon in my hand that was causing my ring finger to hang up when it had been bent for a while. It's made by Nature's Plus and is called Glucosamine Chondroitin MSM Ultra RX Joint Cream. It's not inexpensive, but it usually only takes a little of it to be effective. It's greaseless and odorless and absorbs quickly into the skin.
You can search for it online, but shop around for the best price.
Good luck finding the cause and a help for your cough and its mysterious additional symptoms. Sometimes in cases like these it takes finding a doctor who is familiar with rare medical issues.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers, and hoping they find out soon what is causing your symptoms. There normally is something, but sometimes it just takes them a long time to find it. For me when I was a child it took them 6 years to figure it out what was going on with me. Once they did it was a pretty quick fix. Do not give up.Thanked by 1AHayesHorses

Thanks for all the support and suggestions y'all! I didn't have time to talk to him about the unknown ailment unfortunately but as for my knee, he said most likely a contusion (bruised bone). If that's the case then it has to heal on its own which will take time. Got an xray to be sure the bone isn't cracked so waiting on those results and will hopefully get them soon! Will post the final result once i know!

If it’s winter where you are, keeping bruised, sore, unhappy joints warm can make a major difference to your comfort factor. Even consider putting a nice polo wrap on your knee if you’re going to be outside for an extended time just to keep it nice and warm but not significantly restrict motion. Obviously a mild brace/sleeve can also help. But seriously, from those of us with “joint changes” from old riding injuries—warmth makes a huge difference!
Also obviously, don’t put any bandage or wrap on too tightly as that can cause much worse problems!Thanked by 1AHayesHorses -
@Cheers i will definitely try the polo wrap thing lol i do have a couple knee braces but one i can't find, the one i have been using the Velcro is worn out on so it pops off, and the other one is uncomfortable because the straps are so thin. 8-| I just need to scour my room for that other one lol

Got a call from my doctor earlier and there is no crack so he said the most probable explanation is a bone contusion. So it just has to heal on its own for a couple more weeks. He said if it's still bothering me the second week of January, to call him again. So lots of icing and pain reliever as needed

I second Cheers—keep it warm! It is too hard for me to polo wrap myself, so I spent a winter in college (until I wised up and moved 900 miles south) wearing bright purple shipping boots! My knees and ankles were nicely protected on the regular occassions I slipped and fell, and the warmth helped prevent foot/calf/knee muscle spasms.
Unintended bonus: people assumed I had A Mysterious Medical Affliction and often held doors open for me, which helped prevent many potential shoulder/elbow/wrist injuries. [It turns out my MMA(s) were way worse than I knew at the time, but back then I was undiagnosed.] Thank you, kind strangers! I got more offers of assistance from the sight of those shipping boots than I do now when I am out with my wheelchair and service dog : P
Take care of those knees of yours! Remember, just like with horses, to give your “good” knee some support if it’s compensating for your cranky knee. If you want to chat more about medical mysteries, feel free to PM me : )Thanked by 1AHayesHorses
