Missing Foal
-
I made a new HH mare, and put her in my pasture to breed her. But then when i hit the button to breed the foal never appeared? I went to move the foal to the barn and nothing was there but it shows the mare was bred?? can anyone help? I also check and it did charge me for the breeding of the foal so i know there was one.

A link to the stallion and mare? Foal could've died from a lethal combo. It doesn't tell you in the pastureProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Definitely sounds like a lethal breeding. It will show the mare as bred, it will up the stallions foal count, but the foal won’t ever appear. You also won’t get a message in the pasture like you will with hand breeding or a straw/egg breeding. Links will help us determine what happened, as Obsidian said.

Still new to all this, so any help is appreciated...Thank you

Yup, both of the horses have frame (Olw), also known as overo lethal white. When it is homozygous (two copies) you end up with a dead foal. You have a 1/4 chance of this happening, 1/2 chance of the foal being like their parents (het, or 1 copy of frame), and 1/4 chance of them not getting any frame. Looks like you were just unlucky with this crossProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

And it's fine, we were all new to this once upon a time! No question is a silly questionProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

As ObsidianKitsune said, we were all newbies when we started, and while some of us had a bit more knowledge than others, many were pretty new to horses, their colors and markings, and/or the technicalities of the genetics involved in breeding. We like new players here, and are always willing to explain things in this very complex game.
Here's a link to a portion of the FAQ User Guide linked in the left margin. It will help you with understanding most of the dangerous genes--Frame, OLW and the many, many mutations of the Kit genes. There is also a demonstration of how a Punnet Square, a basic genetics prediction tool, can help you understand why breeding certain horses together can be risky.

Always remember, in this game there are NO stupid questions, only things you haven't learned about yet, and there's nothing to be ashamed about in that.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
