DP question for SS...
-
I can tell in Chestnuts when horses have DP because it's easier. however, I am clueless with other colors. Can someone please educate me on DP in bays? I can tell in wild bays because they're bright brick red but not the other bay shades.
-
Browns are ridiculously difficult, but I can start with regular bays.
Non-sooty bays actually get a similar red tone with a copy of DP. Not as bright but still redder than a normal bay.
With sooty, they get darker - het sooty with one dp is roughly the same color as a normal hom sooty, the same way chestnuts with het sooty/het dp look like hom sooty chestnuts, and the same thing goes for hom sooty/het dp and het sooty hom dp - they just look a shade darker than hom sooty/no dp.
Hom sooty hom dp you can get a good look at by searching up freaky fridays or cherry drops that have been gmtd to hom sooty, E A. For cherries, search must not have A+ and must have A, for FFs search must have E/A, for both checkmark must have sooty and must not have S+ or s. (S+ plays with the color a bit).
If someone wants to provide pictures that would be greatly appreciated because my internet isn't working the best for search right now :xISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -

This one is incomplete, but its a start. I really need to work on it again.#28036Thanked by 1Lallyhop -
The biggest difference I tell by is their face. The next way is their belly, then dapples. Some Het DP are close to No DP abut if they have significant dapples then they’re usually Het. No DP have a red blop, het DP a dark red Blop and Hom DP no Blop! You’ll have to open the Hom dp page cause his roan is still showing in the picture...

Here's my Cherry Drop I GMT'd two Stys onto:
She has pangare which lightens her up in a couple places but for the most part this is how hom Sty hom DP bays come out.
This one is hom Sty het DP:
Note she also has pangare lightening up a couple spots. I know she's het DP because she's produced a black liver. -
I find that homozygous DP on bays with hom sooty turns them really dark. The red in their body darkens so much, along their topline some look a little black.
Het DP on hom sooty is just a shade light than hom, and a shade darker than hom sooty no DP.
Because I bred for it for a while there, I've gotten pretty okay at picking them out. Definitely not perfect at it!
This is my bay FF.

I'm pretty sure 053 has DP, I'm just not really good at telling het or hom lol
