Is this a good foundation?
-
Hi there! So i just joined this game and im absolutely loving it! However, I’m really confused on the rarity of colors. I just made this mare, and she’s amber champagne dun. Is this just a basic common color or something better? Is there a guide to all colors that isnt just about genes?

I’m workihg on a color guide here.
Yes some colors are more rare than others, and some patterns can’t be spontaneously created, but rather must be purposefully bought. However, a color being rare doesn’t necessarily make it valuable.
To start out with, I’d be just playing around with what’s available in game as far as colors and patterns. Ask questions, hang out in the beginner barn and on the forum, and just have fun with your pixel ponies. After a little while you’ll start to figure out what you really love and want to breed for for yourself. In the mean time, show ponies are the foundation of your herd as far as making money and being able to afford to do anything, so make sure you train and show all of your ponies every week!Thanked by 1ObsidianKitsune -
Basically in this game, rare doesn't mean sought after. People breed for what they want to see, and everyone is encouraged to do so!
As for whether she's a good foundation, I suggest using BA. If a horse passed BA, then they're good enough to breed from. The "best" foundations you can get (which will always pass BA) are Top Notch Producers (100% breed ability), Perfect Foundations (100% breed and show ability), Exceptional Producers (105% breed ability), and Exceptionally Perfect (105% breed/show ability).
If you want some good stock to start off playing about with, check out the foundation rescue! Their id is 13, I'll add a horse search so you can just click on that link to be taken to all of their intacts. I suggest playing about with the search, it's a great tool for finding not only your horses, but great new combos!

Prices are almost always negotiable. -
Also, you can run a search looking for that particular color name, to see how 'rare' it might be, but you should know that it will only return horses that have been genetically tested. So if there are a gazillion amber champagne duns out there that people can't afford to test, they won't show up in the results.

Breeding is fun, but don't neglect show ponies. They are where your money is made in the game.
