Anyone else love naming their ponies?
-
I know sometimes it's more useful to stick info in the name box, but I just really love giving my ponies names - especially my showponies. Anyone else? Show me your favorite names you've come up with! :D And tell me their stories if they have them! Here, I'll start with one of mine -
Bufala 002S
Bufala means buffalo in italian. When I got the macchiato gene, it reminded me of all the coffee culture in italy - my husband and I got an opportunity to spend a month in Naples (Napoli :D) some years ago and it's one of those experiences that has stayed with us ever since. We didn't do the typical things, didn't really go to all the landmarks (though we did some!), but instead spent time really just living in the city and experiencing life in Italy. Anyway, so that's why I named Bufala's sire Neapolitan - it's kind of an homage to my experience. And since I love to name my foals in ways the reference their parents, a lot of his foals get italian references as names haha. One of the things that delighted us so much while there is that the mozzarella is made from the milk of water buffalos and it's called Mozzarella di bufala. You pronounce it boo-fa-la. So my husband and I, being the silly people we are, would go around and just say Boooofalaaaa all the time and crack up. I dunno, maybe you had to be there, but it still delights me lol :)

It's been a while since I've mabaged to name something. But here's my favorite name. He's a Hom Chinchilla, and he got his name because I was "Insane In The Membrane" for spending the money on the gene. I truly shouldn't have, and probably just barely had it. Lol.

I hear you about spending on the genes! I always feel like it's unwise, but ugh they are so pretty xD
He's super freaking gorgeous, btw!~ Drafts 4 Lyfe~ -
I think naming is one of my favorite parts of the game! I have a spreadsheet with over 3000 names on it! At one point, when I was 'between' games (couldn't decide if I wanted to play HJ after WHG closed down) I kept hearing cool phrases and saying to myself "that'd be a great name for a horse!"
The only designations I put on my horses names are x for Experf mares, and the generation and paper level of stallions. Other than that most of my 3000+ horse have just their names listed.
I also have the tendency to run the name through my head as if the announcer is calling it at a show! "That's Summon The Shadows for Confluence Farms!" or "Congratulations to our winner: Confluence Farms' The Moment Is Me!"Thanked by 1Summervine -
Naming is one of my favorite parts of the game but is also very stressful sometimes. It's all good if I have a foal with parents with good names to go off of, but foundations stump me! My favorite though is a foundation cob mare I created on August 1st of this year...I started the creation process just as my boyfriend knelt in front of me to propose! I named her EMs (my nickname, short for Emily) Everlasting Promise. I tracked her with blue and orange which are our wedding colors as they are our favorite colors. She will always be special to me and it doesnt hurt that she drops adorable foals ;-)Breeder of the tallest draftsThanked by 1Summervine

Now I have to ask. Confluence, what is WHG?
-
WHG was the 2nd incarnation of the western game originally called Shoco. Shoco was Stock Horse Inc. and WHG was Western Horse Game. It was a purely western game Ammit designed. Unfortunately it wasn't paying the bills the way HJ does, and was taking an awful lot of time, so she had to close it down.
It was SIMILAR to HJ, in that you breed and show, and the way the genetics worked, but the structure was very different. I LOVED that game! Someday....SOMEDAY she will get back to it, or I will will the lottery and pay her millions of dollars to start it up again!
-
Oh, that sounds like a lot of fun. I'd LOVE a western HJ... I'm curious now, how was it different? If you don't mind the nostalgia trip. ;)Thanked by 1Summervine

I started in HJ1 but ended up spending more time in WHG until it closed.
There was a bunch of different things but I found you had to be a bit more interactive with it and adjust your horses showing more than here where it’s click and show everything.
You could breed to increase different traits. Cow sense, conformation, speed, agility. I think there was 12 and there was different classes (halter, showmanship, trail, western pleasure, gaming, cows, broncing ) that took into account 3 different traits each
When you placed in a class you’d get points for that and you could work to earn Rom’s in different decisions or multiple in one or two.
I loved the creating process too. You’d go down to a corral and someone would bring you 3 horses to pick from and they would have different prices and strengths or colours and you could pick to buy 1,2,3 or none. You also got a free roll everyday and could accumulate rolls so some days I’d go on create sprees and buy 50+ -
Wow. WHG sounds like a lot of fun. Maybe Ammit will bring it back to life if there is enough critical mass to support it. H&J appears to have grown significantly. Maybe there would be more support for the game now.Thanked by 1Summervine

Naming is one of my favorite past times. A lot of time all the horses created in the same day have thematic names. This one was during my create spree on Exceptional Day...and I may have been little tired by the time I got around to naming her.
Buuuuut she's perfectly done, so...
Great British Baking Show
The horse after her is named Mary Berry.
I literally just got these two from @Kaitybrak. I have a (bad?) habit of making up stories, picking specific show disciplines for my horses, etc....well these two are part of a matched driving team. They're half siblings, both going back to Fired With Ice...which put in mind of Robert Frost...
"Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. From what I've tasted of desire, I hold with those who favor fire. But if it had to perish twice, I think I know enough of hate, to say that for destruction ice is also great and will suffice."
So they're a very fancy driving team that spends weekends running rings around the show circuit, and Monday through Friday planning for the apocalypse.
