Mare Papering
-
-
Mare Papers from lowest to highest:
Failed, Yellow, Red, Blue, *Gold
Stallion Papers from lowest to highest:
Showable Only, C, B, A, *Star
All foundation stallions, in this game, that make it through the free testing will paper C. Yellow papers for a mare are approximately equivalent to C papers, and a fair number of foundation mares will paper Yellow, although some will paper Red.
Since this mare and the stallion you bred her to are both Rank Special horses, they should be Perfect Foundations, meaning that they are the best at both breeding and showing that foundation horses can be. The PT scores of her foals fall within the possible range for Perfect Foundation crosses. However, out of three foals, only 1 has remained intact, and all of their PT scores close to the median likely foal PT's for this kind of cross. The range can stretch from 8.9 to 10.4. I would say that Yellow is the correct papering level for her, based on these foals.
You might try breeding her to another foundation stallion a couple of times to see if her luck improves,. I would also recommend breeding her intact daughter to see how she papers. If her daughter papers Red, you will know that she is better than her dam, which is something to aim for.
If she gives you an intact son, keep him if he papers B. If he papers C, geld him.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Mares paper from worst to best: Failed, Yellow, Red, Blue, *Gold.
Stallions paper worst to best: Showable Only, C, B, A, *Star.
Stallions can be papered at birth based only on their own breeeding quality, while a mare is papered based on the quality of her foals. As a result the quality of stallion you breed her to and her pasture bonus will both have a large effect on how she papers.
I personally expect my foundation mares to paper Red, but they all have the full pasture bonus and are bred to perfect foundation quality stallions. I want my gen 3s to paper Blue and would like my 5s or 6s to eventually paper Gold, but I'm not hitting those goals yet.
There is no right or wrong way to play, so your goals should suit your playing style. -
Thank you for the help. It is my goal to breed her filly when she's old enough. :)

I personally don't paper foundation mares, simply because most of the red mares aren't actually better than the yellow ones anyway, just a luck of the draw on their first foals. All the best foundation mares on HJ2 are yellow, same as stallions are C. They are just under the B/red borderline. But because they are so close to red you can get foundation mares to paper red. I just don't waste my money on testing them as it doesn't actually tell me anything! Thus your yellow papered foundation mare is fine! As said she's a rank special so would be the best breeding ability in a foundation!

I never used to paper my foundations, until, I accidently clicked 'papering' on mares instead of stallions one time. One of my favorite foundation mares, that had over twenty foals 'Failed.' So, I started papering every mare left intact after that. I have always papered my stallions, and even my geldings. Just for my personal notes on my computer about my findings of breeding in my stable.
I think, I have had, maybe, one more foundation mare 'Fail' after I did them all. But, I have been playing for a long time, and have created thousands of foundation mares, and that was before I discovered, SMA, (Strict Mare Advice) in the game. With only two that 'Failed,' and some of my yellow paper foundation mares, having a higher AFPT, (Average Foal Point Test) than my red paper foundation mares. And lots of breeding of all my foundation mares. In my stable anyway, as kintara said above, there doesn't seem to be a difference. That is just my personal findings after years of testing my foundation mares. -
I also have had a couple of favored mares paper Failed. I have also had a few persist on papering yellow even with all the same "perks" my red mares have. Like Paints, since I started using SMA, and now the new, stricter SMA, I expect those slightly inferior mares will be weeded out by that test.
And, as Sandy and Kintara said, your girl is a Rank Special. Regardless of how she papers after 3 foals, you know she's top quality for a foundation.Thanked by 1PaintsStables -
I am crying and sighing with you on the SMA, Cheers. It makes it easier for those mares I can't decide on spaying or not, I do a sigh of relief that I don't have to choose. But when one gets spayed and is one I really wanted to stay intact, I shed a little virtual tear over her.

I think you'd be pretty unlikely to get failed mares with the SMA test, but mares that bad anyway I would have weeded out simply on terrible foal PT's. But we all play a little different!! I have very few foundation mares except the rank specials even last long enough for papering lol!

The failed ones never should have passed free mare advice. It was a long standing bug, and can't happen anymore.
