No Stirrup November
  • Oh boy, I'm really feeling it today. My trainer had me do elevated poles without stirrups today after nearly a week of very little/light riding from the California fires. My quads are going to feel it tomorrow!

  • I miss horse riding, no stirrups used to fill me which so dread and fear haha! I somehow always loose my stirrups during canter so no idea why I never got used to not having stirrups

  • I'm not doing it this year as I'm pretty sure my horse would try to kill me lol =)) hopefully next year!
  • Com'on Rutledge ;) At least do a mini session at trott without the stirrups!

  • Lol I used to ride bareback when I was a kid and typically ditch the saddle for November but I haven’t even been riding lately hoping that now that I’ve got the full time position my schedule may be a bit more stable and I can get to the barn more regularly.

I also loved torturing my cousin by taking her sturrips away when she came to ride in November because her balance is awful but they haven’t rode since March I think
  • @Bourbon my girl is 3 and still in the process of training if I get her to a trot she won't stop and wleventually starts bucking =))
  • Ah sorry! I didn't know she was still a baby, I had a feeling it would be a mare and thought the kill me part would be from her being a grumpy mare :))

  • Update from the next day: my thighs are indeed killing me! Stretch suggestions anyone?

  • I had to do two weeks of riding stirrupless due to dislocating my knee, since trying to ride with stirrups was painful. It’s a “fun” story.

Anyway touching your toes, the butterfly, and balancing on one leg and holding the other foot behind you. I don’t know they’re official names but those work when my legs are sore.
  • I spent most of the summer riding without stirrups due to nearly putting my eye out after bracing on my stirrups and leaning forward when my pony tripped. It was rough but so good in the long run. Between that and my new half-lease who is a huge spooky warmblood who is a step up for my abilities and I am not 100% confident on yet, I have mostly gotten a pass on NSN.

I have noticed something amusing about the rest of my barn, however. Usually, No Stirrup November is meet with groans of fear and dread. This year, when the weather has been unseasonably cold (as in 20 degrees below our usual temp), people have been queuing up for the bareback pads. Who knew the motivation we needed to improve drop our stirrups was freakishly cold weather?
