The Perfect Pick-me-up (Straw and RS giveaway!)
  • Thank you, Ammit, for such wonderful things as lotteries and herd helpers. Though Arengee may be spiteful in her snips, today she was gracious! :P

Funny how something as small as rolling a Wet n Wild can turn a whole week around. In less than four days I've gotten an infected ingrown toenail; had my fudge I just bought stolen by the roommate's dog who ate the whole square, saran wrap and all after I left it on the coffee table; dropped my tablet and cracked a corner of the screen; stayed up way too late going through the freezer, fridge, and pantry in a deep clean; and to top it all off, got a flat tire on the way to work today.

No better day to have this week's sermon be on gratitude, huh?

It's true, though, that gratitude for the little things can really shake up perspective, as I was abruptly reminded this morning. When I finally did get to work, there was a bird book sitting on my desk, a birthday present from my boss. I logged in here and rolled a WnW. It made me think about the little things - like how even though my fudge was eaten by the dog (who thankfully is fine, it was white chocolate caramel and the saran wrap doesn't seem to have affected him), the roommate bought me more. Even though I cracked my tablet screen, it's a small crack and everything is functioning just fine. The deep clean is satisfying to have done, even if I need to take a nap later today - and my best friend left her work to give me a ride. As for the toe, well, it's slowly getting better and the swelling is going down.

In the spirit of gratitude for the little things, I'd like to give one of my WnWs away to one of you, you people who make up this amazing community that never fails to put a smile on my face.

All I ask is that you share one of your little bits of gratitude. What small (or large!) spot of hope have you found this week? What's your silver lining?

Everyone who participates will receive a straw, and one random person will receive this lil colt. Share away! :)
ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
  • I remember having a discussion with someone about why everyone was always unhappy. I think people chase the big happies and miss the little happies. And while sure, the big happies feel FANTASTIC you'll come down from that high faster than you'd like, looking for the next BIG happy. Focusing on the little happy moments can get you through the day, let the big happies come as they may and enjoy them when they do.

I'm super grateful this week because my husband was scheduled for the whole week, we may be able to catch up on bills by next paycheck.
  • 1.) I was super exhausted after coming home yesterday and ended up spending a relaxing evening evening assembling a 750-piece puzzle with my roommates. They bring me joy, ya'll!
2.) When I walked into class last week, my professor looked around, commented that a lot of us looked stressed, and then stopped class for a five-minute deep breathing and stretching break. Professors that care are the bomb.
3.) Break. Starts. Tomorrow! And I have wonderful friends with wonderful family who are willing to take me in when home is too far away.

Seldom, I like your big happy/little happy analogy. Someone told me the other day that they try to find one especially amazing thing about every person they meet, no matter how difficult that person is. People suddenly become much more lovable!

  • 1) I am thankful for my dog that insists on getting me out of bed and walking every day. I went to the city parks more times in the first six months of owning him than I did in my prior five years in my city. Today I got to watch a pretty sunrise come up that I would have missed without him.
    2) I am thankful that my company bought a satellite office less than twenty minutes from my parents house - so I can take a long Thanksgiving "vacation" without actually using any of my limited vacation time.
    3) My (half) lease horse, who apparently cut himself on thin air on the forth and promptly got bad cellulitis in his hock and lower leg, recovered after a week and a half of stall rest, hand walking, bandage changes, and antibiotics, and I got to hack him before heading out of town. His owner, who is a college girl, will be back in town this week, and I'm so happy he'll be sound for her (knocking on wood.)

  • I'm thankful my husband got a call for a new job. He starts training the 28th. His job now just has us barely getting by and he missed a ton of days since Halloween due to rain and bad weather. Extremely thankful for my husband in general lol, he goes out and busts his A every day to provide for us so I can stay home and take care of our boy.

I'm also thankful for my happy and healthy three year old. He got horse kicked back in June and we were truly lucky and blessed not to lose him. 10 days in picu, 2 surgeries, a and lots of time taking it easy and he's back to his old wild self. His kidney that took the worst of the damage won't ever be fully healed, but they didn't have to remove it and it's still functioning.

And I'm thankful for my horses and dogs, they keep me laughing and entertained, even if they drive me nuts at times lol.

  • I am very thankful because I got to spend the weekend with 3 of my kids and 6 of my grandkids. It is harder to do when all my kids live in different states and having to work around work and school schedules. We all had a great time and we are really excited because in 6 weeks we are going to get together again along with my other daughter and grandson that lives in Louisiana.
We rarely every are able to all get together and we treasure the rare times it happens. And it was especially nice that we got together just to see each other and spend time together, not going to a family funeral.

  • I always wanted 3 kids. No reason. After my son was born, we waited a year, then decided it was time for another. After several years of seeing drs and specialists we found out that I have PCOS. There would be no more babies for me.

Well, my son is now 26 with 2 beautiful daughters. And to add to our happiness, my son's sister-in-law has a baby boy. He's my honorary grandson. My grandbabies are my heart! I can't imagine life without them. Now I understand why I could have only the one; so I could better appreciate my love for all of them!
