Why didn't he pass the sba?
  • I don't understand why he did get snipt, i thought i bred even and he is consistent.. What did go wrong?

  • Some times it just happens. It's part of the chance in the game. Just because everything lines up doesn't mean they wont get snipped it just means you have a less chance in the foal getting snipped. Also if you hand bred this foal I would not use SBA I would only have used BA. He's really pretty though and should make a good show pony :)
  • ok, thanks :)
    I used the pasture ;;)
I always use sba but were just wondering if the result of the breeding desided if they pass or not. I mean if I breed c to yellow and b to red and so on, if that were the key to intact foals but i guess not :-))

  • Paper him, it's free if they're snipped. He might be slightly worse than his parents :)

  • It’s just the chances of fate! You actually did a great job with this pairing I think. The parents are A/Blue each out of a B/Red pair. I have found that if I cross an A stallion from B/Red parents to a Blue filly from say a B/yellow pasture bonus breeding, the foal is less likely to be able to match the parents abilities because of that slight difference (there are high and low ends of each paper level). I think if you repeated this breeding you have a good shot at getting an intact foal; sometimes I don’t get consistent quality even from the same pairings. It might be worth papering the foal (there’s no charge once they are snipped) to see where he’s at.

  • I would say it is. I breed even generation and try and breed even paper level too. I normally end up with way to many intact foals and heavily test and cull for all kinds of things to get my intact numbers down. That said there is always a chance that even if all those things are correct it doesn't mean the foal will always be intact. Your still going to have a chance. Remember the horses have a high end and a low end that the foal can inherit from. If the foal gets unlucky and inherits from the low end of both parents it's not going to pass SBA and get snipped. Some years I have pastures where almost all the pasture passes and the following year I might end up with only 3 out of 30 foals that pass.

  • OMG he tested C X_X :-O :))

  • Oh wow, he's quite a lot worse. It was probably just a bad roll of the dice, hopefully they'll have better foals in the future. But he might be a pretty good little show pony so I'd hold onto him :)

  • Sometimes you just hit the shallow end of the gene pool! He’s got a good PT score at least, and he’s a looker! Better luck next time.

  • Sometimes just bad luck!! He had good parents but obviously with a C paper the foal was much worse than parents. Sometimes foals are better, around the same, or much worse than the parents! That's the roll of the dice when breeding!
