Wishing we had check boxes in search view and pastures
-
Would make life so much easier to sort and breed. Sorry for whining...it just makes me want to blow off breeding. I guess maybe I need to buy a bunch of smaller barns to sort and divide smaller groups of mares into based on how I intend to breed them. Another option (if easier to code) if we could have "unbred" as one of the sort options on the drop down menu of the list view instead of only the search view...that way we could check boxes to move mares in groups instead of individually.BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

Yes this! It frustrates me to no end, but I play solely on my phone and wasn’t sure if it’s easier on the computer. I have a 210 stall barn for my Gen 2 mares, so I have to open up a separate search to see which ones are unbred, then scroll down and click each one that I want to put in my 10 acre pasture with similar mares. If we could select from search view, then I could do so much more organised breeding! As it is, some of my mates get left in the pasture too long, so buy the end a lot of my Gen 2 and foundations are lucky to get one day bonus if that :/
As for the pastures, if you just dump a bunch of random mares in the primary pasture, sorting them out from there is just as slow going. Having to go into each individual profile to move her to the smaller pasture, without accidentally removing her from pasture altogether...
Check boxes please [-O<Thanked by 1duelinghawks -
Remember you can always make a pen and paper list and then go to the smaller pasture and scroll down to the drop box and add them from there all in one hit.
-
All your mares in barns are in alphabetical order at the top of the list, then all your mares in pasture are in alphabetical order at the bottom of the list.

Pen and paper lists are entirely an option, I know, but just adding my two cents that it would be amazing to be able to copy tack/tattoos from search like we can from barns! Of course, adding check boxes to search does sound like it would be difficult. Maybe applying search options to horses in barn view instead?ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

@Cheers thank you for your input. I may need to be more creative about naming them using abbreviations or special coding as a way of telling them apart. I have a basic labeling system already so I had to stop giving them actual names. Only my special studs have actual names.BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

What I have done is try to make sure every line has the founding studs name in every foal/grandfoal/etc. Or a specific gene to that line. It comes right after my generation notation so it’s very quick to tell what the horse is even in a search. It also makes it much easier to use the “Horse Name” section part of the search, since I can just type in “G2R Freak” and it will pull up all the second gen red mares in my Freaks Desire line. It also probably helps I only have 3 lines, but I’ve found that naming system has really made breeding much easier, even when having to go in and go each page to move horses manually from pasture to pasture.Thanked by 1duelinghawks

Finding a naming system that works for you could solve lots of issues (it did for me lol) I used to have 3 lines and got so mixed up trying to keep them straight. Now I have 10(ish) between the 2 servers.
I use the same naming system on each.
A 3 letter prefix that tells me the gender and generation then a 2 letter indicator for which line they are from.
JS - stud
JL - mare
Starting at 2nd Gen I use the alphabet for each generation (a=2nd, b=3rd, c=4th)
Then I go to my pasture and run down the list and can pick up all of the Axiom (AX), Nexus (NX), Plaid(PL), KP, Ice(IC, IC8), satin(Sa) or filler horses of any one generation into the pasture along with a corresponding stud of the same line. Most of my horses have ID# names but ones I use often or had some extra time when browsing have names that indicate lines and I can usually figure out which stud they line back to. I don’t typically blend lines but I do put the KP and satin inductors after the name so they aren’t all a bramble of letters at the beginning if they do go into other lines.Thanked by 1duelinghawks -
You are probably better off coming up with a solid a solid name coding system. I would also love checkboxes, but I kinda run on the theory that Ammit plays too, and understands where some of the frustrating aspect of the interface exist. So, if they were easily fixable they have probably already been fixed. If they aren't fixed it is likely because it's either not possible, or the time investment to make it happen, and the risk that it will seriously impact other aspect of the program are too high.Thanked by 1duelinghawks

I'm no pro, by far, but I've poked around in a few databases. I think it would likely be easier from a programming perspective to add a column in the barn view showing how many foals a horse has had that season, or even just to add some kind of indication in the pasture page menu if mares have been bred already. Adding checkboxes to the search page would be harder to do, at least from what I understand about that kind of database search page.Justa ~ ID# 44842

I never use barns or pastures for sorting breedings. I always use the search, and a notepad (on my computer, not pen and paper). I have all my boys listed by generation, and then by what line they are in (plus gene codes). Then I use the search, starting with my highest generation and work my way down. Each generation I sort through one line at a time - then I put the names underneith each boy, and breed them from the boys' pages. And then I move on to the next line or the next generation. By far the most time efficient way, for me.

I play on a computer not a phone. I open 2 browsers, then go to the barn and open view in search, then in the other browser i put the same barn and click the organize by name. then as I see one on the search, i comeback to the list and tick/check her off. then once i have all the necessary mares I can click the other browser to the pasture.
