Eras
-
Call me dense, but even after reading about them, I still don't understand Eras. Could someone please assume that I am a complete and utter idiot and explain it to me accordingly?Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

Eras are all about the leader boards. It's a way to give new players, building lines from newly created foundations, a way to compete against older players who have been playing for real life years and have lines that stretch out to double-digit generations. If you assume that careful breeding means every generation is a little better than the last, foundations could never hope to compete with gen 12 horses...
But when each era changes, the playing field is evened again. Because Ammit is constantly coming up with new stuff, new genes, etc, older players are always going to be starting new lines from scratch and new players can compete directly with them on the newest era leaderboard.
When it comes to breeding horses of different eras to each other, the foal will always be classed in the older era parent's era. So if you breed a newly created era 4 mare to an era 0 stallion, the foal will be era 0.
Era 4 started very recently (the beginning of last month, I think?) so the leader boards there are quite young.
Most players don't worry about mixing eras--certainly it's not like generations which some of us get quite uptight about!
If you have any other questions, please ask! -
So eras have more to do with leaderboards than current/more desireable breeding? Thanks for such a good explanation! :)

Thanks for the explanation Cheers. I'm also glad this helped others besides just myself.Be not afraid to ask questions. You're not the only idiot in the room.

Yes, Hunter. The breeding ability/desirability of a horse has nothing to do with their era. I completely ignore era when I am picking breeding horses--I'm much more interested in quality. But if you want a chance at the leaderboards--particularly the Top Producing Stallion/Mare leaderboards--your best bet is to pursue breeding really top quality horses in Era 4.
