SNF Gene Sale Question
-
Does anyone know if the Vrn on the SNF gene means the horse already has SNF? I'm trying to decide if I should make one of my mares Nom SNF, but she may already have it.
-
It won't allow you to add it if they already have it. If the option for only one strand is popping up, that means she's het.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

Vrn I suspect is the old varnish roan. Vsn is Snowflake. I'm curious if the Vrn is associated with how quickly a horse varnishes out.#28036Thanked by 1Stone Run Stables

If you buy snowflake during the gene sale does that mean you own the gene now and can put it on other horses in the GMT lab or is it solely whichever horse you buy strands for?
-
@Haltanny thank you, I'm thinking you're probably right.
@SquishLime Snowflake isn't a closed gene, but you can only get it when it's on sale or in the GMT lab :) -
Squish Snowflake is not usually in the GMT lab.
-
Okay so it is occasionally available in the GMT lab, does anyone know for how much? I can’t really afford to use real money so will save up IVs if I have some hope of owning a foundation snowflake one day
-
Squish, its 15 (gm) tokens for one copy of snowflake if I remember correctly.
-
Yes, it’s either 10-15 tokens per copy. I’m having a hard time remembering which it is.
-
In the GMT lab, when it does go up, it's 10 GMTs per strand :) I remember from saving up for it on my Mushroom boy
-
That’s great news, not entirely unachievable then. I will keep my fingers crossed!
-
Squish, I don't remember if it was on HJ1 or HJ2, but there was a person who didn't have the cash to purchase one of the roving genes. She offered up Hbs to people who would purchase the genes and put them on a horse for her.
I think it was HJ2 and I believe it was for the Nexus gene. But I'm getting older & my memory is not what it used to be. I think my storage file is getting full. :D -
@squishLime it is also possible to get a HOM snowflake from a regular create. I managed to get one :) but it is extremely rare.

It was hiddenvfarm here and I was one of the people who helped her out: she was offering 1 mil for a hom nexus foundie. Ammit okayed that as perfectly legal.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

My advice to you, is to set aside a month where you test EVERY foundation mare you own with a Homozygous snowflake stud. I did this on my other account and found that two of my mares carried snowflake; I also did it on this account and found three more. Its not as rare as you think, you just gotta put aside the hbs to test!
Id be willing to send you a free egg and straw from my two foundies, if you'd like. :) just pm me. @Squishlime -
Thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone. I’m so lucky that Goobanni kindly gifted me a liver SNF foundation boy and now I’ll never ask for anything again, he’s perfect!
I never thought to test the mares I’ve already got, I should do that one day definitely. Could be some more surprises! -
If you do got the route of testing foundation mares, it’s very much worth it to have a stallion that’s both HOM snowflake and HOM Llp - so it passes on both the Appaloosa and snowflake gene. Snowflake does happen in foundations but irregularly enough that it is a quest to find them - and best to put as many factors in your favor as possible.
-
Just wanted to point out that even if your mares don't produce any snowflakes does not mean that none carry the gene. A hetero Snowflake only has a 50% chance per goal to pass it on, but its entirely possible to get 3 or 4 in a row that don't get it.#28036
