Genetic Practice Contest (12 PT show pony) Closed
-
Been wanting to do this contest for a while, but since Tagamon Forrest past away I've been having a hard time finding an unusual colored, high PTed foal. But this season I got a gorgeous 12PT girl!
Guess the genetics of this filly, and you can win her! (Also 15,000$)
Contest Pony
Feel free to look at parents so you know what's possible.
Answers should look something like this. (example)
EE Aa CC dd gg ff SstyS pP zZ KitmKit OlwO WF: Medium
-1 one for every wrong allele. Tiebreaker is white factor. 2nd tiebreaker is time on who posted first.
(Please say word color name too just because).
I will wait to genetic test and award prizes until at least tomorrow afternoon, and four people have posted, but past that I will genetic test and award the filly whenever I get free time.
If anyone wishes tomorrow I (or actually the winner.... I’m not too good at these) can go through how to start guessing at the correct answer.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.Thanked by 1supersarah -
Can we post here? rather than in a PM?

Yes, please post here so everyone can learn, and hopefully catch “grading” mistakes by me.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.

Sure. I think I know which colors did which but not 100% sure. We’d have to ask someone else.

Wow! This was even more popular than it normally is! I'm going to keep an eye out to see if I can find another high PT foal....
Genetic testing her now. I might have to wait for paper and pencil for grading though.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses. -

Lallyhop and HtRanch both tied, but HTRanch got the correct white factor. Putting the filly up in a chat for you now. Will send cash directly to you. Would you please tell us how you got your answer too?
This time order did NOT count, but next time it WILL count as the vast majority of you got 2 alleles wrong which is very close. They are in order of sire first, then dam, so that will make it one step harder.
Doing this contest again ASAP as soon as I find a suitable foal.Breeder of any and all crazy colored drafts and RH horses.Thanked by 1GeneverGinger -
Thanks HUSG!
I first pulled up the sire's page and wrote down all the genes he would have passed to the foal (one from each pair). If he was heterozygous for any gene, I put a question mark with the gene in question in parentheses. So I got this:
E A ?(CCr) d g F Sty ?(Pp) ?(Zz) ?(KitmKit) ?(SpsSp) ?(lpLp) ?(OlwO)
Then I opened up the dam's page and filled in what she would have passed on. So now we have this:
Ee Aa ?(CCr)?(CCprl) d?(Dd) gg F?(Ff) StySty ?(Pp)p ?(Zz)z ?(KitmKit)?(KitmKit) ?(SpsSp)Sp ?(lpLp)lp ?(OlwO)O.
The rest is the guesswork. The foal didn't look buckskin to me compared to horses I brought up in search, which narrows our choices down to CC (no genes at the cream locus) or CCprl (which wouldn't show). I guessed C from dad and Cprl from mama. The dorsal stripe and dark nose indicate dun (so D from mama). Flaxen was anyone's guess because the foal was black-based. Pangere might be a little easier to guess if you have a really good eye for it, but I don't, so another blind guess. The foal is black-based but the mane and tail are pale, indicating silver (so Z from dad). Using a punnet square, the chances of the foal being het Kitm were higher than the chances of being hom, so I guessed het. The lack of face white and the typical bottom-heavy blaze or bald face rules out splash (in most cases), the lack of mottling on the nose and flank rules out appaloosa, and I guessed again on the frame because there is only one Kitm Olw horse that matched my specs in search to compare. I guessed extensive WF because both parents had extensive WF (WF tends to go up each generation)
So my final guess was:
Ee Aa CCprl dD gg Ff StySty Pp Zz KitmKit Wf - Extensive

So is it cream that makes a horse buckskin vs bay?
