Help with gmt :)
-
I think I’m about ready to start a proper line and would love to use fantasy genes. I was hoping for some help with working out costs as it’s melting my brainStill fumbling around this awesome game :)
I want to make a line of Grullo Splash Appaloosa Rabicano, any help would be appreciated :)

I have a stallion I would like to start with, but I’m wondering whether it’s worth adding genes to him, or if I can find something better
StallToMod2938738
I’d like to get a mare and a stallion ready for the same season. I’m torn between the ice and the galaxy looking one on sales at the moment, so if anyone has this combo already, that would be awesome to see.
Thankyou for any help :)Still fumbling around this awesome game :)

The real question is, does he have the base genes you want in your lines? Do you want all black based horses? And remember, breeding horses carrying KitW and KitW together can be lethal, so you would need to use caution when breeding his offspring together. I will try to pull up some searches of what the ice and nexus genes would look like on your boy.

This is the closest I could get to your boy with homozygous nexus, I could not find one with roan.

Hmmm, which gene is the kitw again? Perhaps I should use a different RS. I like patterned so i have been playing around with appy and white spotted, so I’d rather stick to one of those styles. My fave base colours are blue roan and grullo, so I’m looking around that sort of area. I don’t like frame or Tobiano, so that’s out of the picture. I’d love some suggestions:)Still fumbling around this awesome game :)

There are no “wrong” colours to add ice or nexus to they both show in all coats and don’t need special genes to correctly interact with to show (nexus does have different looks between het. and homo)
Personally I breed grullos with white patterns.
When I start a new line or go to replace a stud I start to look for EE DD studs (I’ve recently started to cull Ee or Dd lines studs in an attempt to reduce non-grullo cull rates) splash and rabicano and at least 1 kit genes are pluses for me
Then I look at my list of white patterns I am currently loving. I compare the list and remove any kit genes I already have on a foundation (unless it’s the one I’m replacing) and write down the gmt costs to add each of the remaining genes. I remove any that go over my available gmt token amount. Then I typically pick 2 kit genes especially on hj1 where I breed KP.
If your not sure what a gene does or how it interacts with other genes go look it up in the search. You can put your horses entire genetics in and change different genes one at a time to see how the picture is affected.
GMTing gets extremely expensive, extremely quick if you don’t know exactly what your looking for
Also when using real money to add genes I always go for 2 studs rather than a stud and mare. While crossing foundation special gened mare and stud is nice you get way more bang for your buck on a stud who can cover 50 mares and unlimited straws per season while a mare is restricted to 14-20 foals per season if you dont stick her in a pasture and breed her before pulling eggs. And you then have a wider base of foundations to match descendants from if you don’t like inbreeding. -
Look up the Kit Lethality thread to see what Fallen is talking about about the dangers of breeding hom w horses together: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/13757/new-kit-lethality-and-kit-mutation-load-explained#Item_23
It sounds a little like you don't really know what you want yet. Like Bandit said, playing with GMTs can get expensive -- I have a couple of horses I made foolish alterations to and don't use, even though I spent real money on them. I'd second her recommendation to poke around in the horse search or in some of the color chat groups to get a better idea of what you want to do before you start. If you have specific questions, the people in the Beginner Chat are usually very helpful too!
You mentioned that you like the look of appaloosa as well as the w2 -- in general appaloosa is a much "safer" gene to play with, as you don't have to worry about risks with hom genes or white factor. It might not be a bad place to start if you were already considering it.
The only differing opinion I will offer is that if you're adding special genes that have to be homogenous to express (like pearl or mushroom), it isn't a bad idea to do a breeding pair of foundations just for early gratification purposes. :) When I bought Axiom, I put it on a stud and a mare. That way I was able to get a hom stud in generation 2 instead of having to wait for generation 3. (That said, a lot of genes express just fine when they're het -- appaloosa, splash, the special ice genes, etc. In that case it might not be worth the bother to pay for the genes on both a stud and a mare foundation.) -
There is a herd Helper, True Breeding Blue Roan, and there are Blue Roan Appaloosa herd helpers if you really like the blue roan appy look. You could always use the boy you have now for the special genes, and get a whole slew of mare from one of those herd helpers. That way there are good chances you could avoid the possible lethal kit interactions of the KitW gene by picking a colt that does not carry it, and mares that do in your second gen.

Can you take a out like Tobino and add Kit M in its place or does kit m just get added to the genetics?
-
If you have a lined horse, like the one below, that does not have a parent that carried the KitM gene, you may not take off the Tobiano and add KitM. One of the parent horses must have the gene in order to swap it.
S Renegade Door
Now with a foundation horse, you may add whatever you want. The example below, you could either remove the Tobiano and add KitM, or just add KitM onto the allele that does not have a kit gene. You will, however, have to pay full price to add KitM onto a foundation, and that is very expensive (40 GMT tokens each).

Awesome thank you! Ive been hoarding IVs to start GMTing a foundation but I don't want to waste them experimenting!

Can I add Sb2 to this horse without taking away a Sb1? -
No. Both sabino genes are KIT genes. KIT mutates easily, that is why there are so many variations of KIT genes. Tobiano, Roan, sb1, sb2 W20, W1, W2, W3, Wm, W8 and W10 are all KIT genes, so a horse can only have 2 of these, or only 1 if they are homozygous.

Ok coolbeans thank you!
