How do you work out if a horse is making a profit or not?
-
Hey guys,
I keep reading about people talking about their horses making a profit or not, and see it in the search criteria as well, but I've never really known what it means within the context of the game and how to work out whether a horse is making one or not.
Thanks,

There is no need too to calculate profit. The amount a horse will win or lose in shows in insignificant compared to the value the points they will earn. Points payout until the horse dies.

I stopped calculating profits years and years ago. With this show system I just use a herd immunity method lol
Just breed a lot of ponies, the higher profit earning horses will cover for the lower profit earners until they become profitable and take over for the former high profit earners when they pass away.
Honestly I rarely even look at my show ponies once they’re moved into the show barns other than to top up the first barns so I have room to move my foals in all at once.
ETA: the more you show your horses the more profit you’ll make :D -
I'm actually glad to hear this @Bandit1119! I hardly ever look at my show ponies, but if there are experienced players doing the same maybe I'm not just lazy. :D
Of course, you need a fair number of show horses for the "herd immunity" theory to really work.
If you are in a space crisis and want to do some purging, TrueBlueHorses -- take a look at your older show horses who have leveled off and make sure they're not coming in last in their classes. If you look at the show results, you will see that the horse that comes in last in each show earns 0 points. If gaining points is how you gain cash, a horse that isn't earning more points each week isn't going to increase their cash value.
However -- if a horse hasn't leveled off their training, you shouldn't worry about how they place, since it's going to change as they train more.
Hope that makes sense! -
If you wanted to calculate "profit", so to speak, just look at the amount it costs to enter that horse in a show, times two for the two shows a week, then look at their daily income, times seven for the number of days in a week.
The majority of the time, though, what you're really looking at is the question of "is this horse worth the stall space, or should I replace it with another that can earn me more?"
For me, I'd far rather buy another barn than get rid of any show horses, and so far I'm sitting at over 24k/night since joining the game in April - and my show horse ratio isn't even where I want it to be. I cull intacts, not show horses.
For some people, however, if they're struggling on barn space, they may cull the lower-earning horses to make room for ones that can make more profit per stall. I sort through my leveled off horses every once in a while to see if there's one with a significantly worse profit that I could replace with a young pointed create.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time. -
I'd worry less about profit, and look at how many points they actually have
