  • @RoseFlute Last month as part of the format we had to list what prize we wanted. I think it would help get things going to list this months prizes. And a reminder that the theme is music.
    Thanked by 1RoseFlute
  • @lostcause True.

    October's theme is Music.
Whatever album, band, soundtrack, specific song, artist, time period...tell me what you like! One comedy duo from the 50's and 60's in Britain that I would LOVE to share with you all would be Flanders and Swann! I used to listen to their album At The Drop Of A Hat every night before I went to bed. Because it's a couple of recordings of performances they gave instead of a studio, you hear the delightful monologues Michael Flanders gives before and after each song. Family-friendly, old-fashioned fun, with some sprinklings of off-color humor that I didn't understand as a child. :P

Because I know I'll take any excuse to put off the homework I already put off too much, I won't make another round of prizes until the whole giveaway ends at Christmas, I'm sorry. I will add prizes of 1 Million, 750k, and 500k hb, however. How many of each? Well, we'll see. ;)
Don't forget, everyone who enters will get a prime, experienced show pony at the end, and everyone can enter once per theme. If you've already entered in the Word month, you can enter again! All entries, including September's, will be counted in the final drawings (excluding the entries that already won). I'll make another post next month to signal when new posts can be made and to remind everyone of the theme and terms. Please copy this form to your entry:

Last theme's entries were so nice to see! Thank you for entering!

EDIT: Winners are picked randomly, so even if you feel like your recommendation isn't as interesting as another's, you have just as much chance!
  • Did you already give out the money, roseflute? Someone transferred a large amount of money, and I was a little confused Lol

My entry is going to be songs. I like at least one song in almost every genera out there, but my favorites tend to be from Rock and Metal. I have 2 favorite songs at the moment. They are the ones that almost give me goosebumps when I hear them. The Sound of Silence by Disturbed and Gone Away by Five Finger Death Punch.

Themed Entry: Recently I've been listening to a lot of ZZ Ward,Halsey, Lana Del Rey, and Dorthy on my drive to and from school and work. Luckily I have Pandora One so I dont have to listen to commercials very often. Recently Glitter and Gold (Barns Courtney), Medicine Man (Dorthy), Gasoline (Halsey), Havana (Camilla Cabelo) have been getting put on repeat quite a bit. I do listen to a good mixture of other stuff but these seem to be my recent favorites.
    Thanked by 1RoseFlute
  • Licenses owned: Thunderstruck, Watercolor
Prize preference: Freaky Friday, Candy Pony, Show Horse.

My entry is also gonna be songs. I have two singer/comedians to reccomend:
    1) Bo Burnham. He is hilarious xD he is a comedian that writes songs, and I believe at some point he did vines. (Warning, his style is uh.. A little different.) there isn't much to say about him, but ill link a couple songs that I love. ;) *again. His humor is a little different and mostly inappropriate !*

    https://youtu.be/Z-ap5Fp2T6c

    https://youtu.be/HebWl_gcE8A

    https://youtu.be/-l_--pfl4EM

    2) jack Johnson. Ahhhh, his voice is soooo soothing @};- :x. Although he doesn't have the best reputation, that doesn't change the fact that his voice is the literal embodiment of all things good and pure.

Some song suggestions; (everyone needs to listen to these songs. He honestly gives me goosebumps, his voice is so amazing!)

  • Yet another song by Bo:
    https://youtu.be/nt9c0UeYhFc

He hides so many metaphors and similes under the jokes in his songs. I'm not trying to sound cliché or anything, but that guy has opened my eyes to so many new things. He is technically the first comedian that I had actually enjoyed listening to- and if you pay close attention to the gestures that he makes and the lyrics of his songs, you'll see that he touches base on some pretty deep subjects. (Or touchy ones that no one likes to talk about!)
    Thanked by 2BlackWyld RoseFlute
  • And let me just say, some of the stuff he sings about may seem over the top or obvious. But I promise, there is more to it. ;)

*also, I'm sorry for taking over your comments*

I dont really have a favourite recognised genre, instead I like to listen to songs that give me goose bumps (in the good way lol), or spine tingling songs, or songs that just warm your soul.

The songs I've been listening to recently (all pretty much on repeat :D) are 'I Touch Myself' the Serena Williams cover, 'Need You Now' by the Glee Cast, 'No Air' by Jordan Sparks, and the entire soundtracks for 'Saving Mr. Banks' and 'Finding Nemo' (I love Thomas Newman's scores!)

Haha, there are a couple more songs, but I don't wont to overwhelm you with them all!

Thank you so much for this opportunity to participate in your competition @RoseFlute, I will definitely be joining in next month!

    Thanks,

I haven’t listened to a ton of music in the last year or so, but when I do, I tend to listen to a lot of 80s music, or classic rock like The Doors. I do love Queen and Lynard Skynard as well. When I am working my horse I tend to put my movie soundtracks on shuffle bc I found my mare tends to work better when I sing along with them so in that play list I have the pitch perfect 1,2,&3, frozen, Moana, trolls, dirty dancing, footloose, top gun, 10 things I hate about you, and 13 going on 30 sound tracks. I have another that has broadway musical soundtracks like Les Miserable, Wicked, and Phantom of the Opera. I used to listen to country and have an extensive playlist for that genre but can’t listen much due to the association with an ex boyfriend and bad breakup

Prize preferences: silver pocket watches probably but I'll be happy with anything!

Entry: oh gosh, where to begin? Let's see...

Song stuff: I like Alan Walker (he recently released a new song and I love it), Sia's new stuff, long-standing fan of anything Pentatonix, and a few other names I enjoy are Ruelle, Bastille, Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, Les Friction, Daya, Twenty One Pilots, Avicii, Ellie Goulding, Axwell V Ingrosso, Owl City, Lindsey Stirling, Zedd, Girls' Generation, BTS, Backstreet Boys (their new song is two thumbs up, if not my all time favorite), and I also love a lot of oldies but goodies that probably everyone knows already so I won't bother listing here, lol... I need to cut myself off before I go too overboard, but I'm happy to share my playlists with anyone who wants, lol! :))

Background stuff: I seriously doubt anyone here hasn't watched Spirit at least once, but man, that soundtrack is my go-to. Fantasia is another good one, and I like listening to Bollywood music as background music for working on physical stuff like cleaning. Another good zone-out type of music is anything by Enya.

Musicals: Les Mis all the way (about 90% word-for-word memorized, getting there more and more every time I listen), but I also adore Phantom of the Opera. Speaking of which, this little guy aged up, and his white nose splotch turned into a mask! Look at how perfect he is :x

Preference of prize: I’d love a candy horse, or anything white spotted or Appaloosa

Themed entry: at the moment, I’m working a lot, so most of my listening is on the radio while driving to and from work. I quite like the charts at the moment. I’d say my favourite band is bastille, as they harmonise well and sing about sensible things. Out of all their songs, Icarus is my absolute fave. It is a song about the story of Icarus and his failed attempt to escape as told in Greek mythology. My least fave song at the moment is without a doubt this ridiculous baby shark phase

Music- I love Post Modern Jutebox. It's a group of singers and musicians that take popular songs and sing them jazz/swing style. Their version of "Creep" is one of my favorites. They have multiple albums, and tour all over the states. They are constantly releasing new videos on YouTube and Facebook.

Music: I listen to so much music. I'm one of those people who can't stand silence, not even while I sleep, and music keeps me sane. I could name a few dearly loved artists or songs in every genre known to man I think, but I'd be typing for a week and it would be like shooting skeet in the dark. It's possible and with enough tries you might get lucky, but mostly it's a waste of effort. lol

Building on the theme of the comedy artist you suggested though, I can suggest a few great ones you may not know. Jerry Clower is an older very homegrown country comedian from the 70s and 80s who is family friendly and always amusing whether you listen to his long stories or the brief but funny 'Apple Pie And Coffee'. Captain Tractor is a Canadian group that sings but also does a lot of funny stuff like 'Canada Is Really Big' and 'Lonely Inanimate' though they sometimes get a bit raunchy like their pirate song 'Friggin In The Riggin'. And last but certainly not least, everyone should listen to Ray Stevens at least once in their life, starting with the inimitable 'Mississippi Squirrel Revival' and then followed by everything else he's done. :D

One of my favorite genres to listen to when I need a laugh is 'filk', which if you're not familiar with it is sort of the soundtrack of our lives for geeks. If you like science fiction and/or fantasy then you will love stuff by Tom Smith, Deirdre Flint, Julia Ecklar, Mercedes Lackey (yes, really!), Leslie Fish, and Voltaire, just to name a few. They all have music up on YouTube, and even people not into specific fandoms can appreciate songs like 'Goodnight Demonslayer', 'The Cats Are Taking Over', 'The Oklahoma Weedwhacker Massacre', 'A-Ramboing', 'ConValescence', 'The Horsetamer's Daughter', 'The Gods Are Not Crazy', and the always-appropriate (at least in my life! lol) 'Glory Glory Psychotherapy'.

And a few bonus 'horsey' songs I love dearly: the upbeat awesomeness of 'A Girl And Her Horse' by Carbon Leaf, the simple perfection of 'Ballad Of A Runaway Horse' by Emmylou Harris, Gordon Lightfoot's lullabye for ponymad kids everywhere, 'The Pony Man', and last but certainly not least, the always fun 'One Trick Pony' by Paul Simon.

Themed entry- I pretty much solely listen to country music. My favourite artists right now are probably Old Dominion and Florida Georgia Line. The former I saw in March this year at CMC Rocks Festival, and the latter are returning for next year’s festival! I got tickets today, very exciting.
If you’re not so into country, Niall Horan’s album is amazing. Love his voice and songwriting, when I saw him in concert this past June he was wonderful.
Songs I’m particularly loving atm include “Break up in the end” by Cole Swindell, “How was I to know” by Reba McEntire, “Not everything’s about you” by Old Dominion and “You’re gonna miss me” by Brooks & Dunn. Just had to part ways with a very important person in my life and music is helping me realise there is life after love. And that some things aren’t as hopeless as they first may seem, it does get easier.

What can I say? You love what you grew up with. That would be the 70's pop-rock greats: Elton john, Billy Joel, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Paul Simon, Simon and Garfunkle.... that crowd. Those songs bring back so many memories. For newer music, I like Dave Matthews and Dead Can Dance, which is kind new age international eclectic.

And, of course, who doesn't love Johnny Cash?

My wierd music fondess is Celtic. I was an early listener to the modern Celtic Revival bands, like the Bothy Band, Silly Wizard, the Chieftains, Steeleye Span, and more. I can't sit sill to that stuff.

Here is the Bothy Band doing some Scottish mouth music - a style of singing used by women for work songs. It's in Scotts Gaelic. It's old. (For country music fans, music like this is the roots of Bluegrass.)

I personally like a variety of music. I enjoy old country, new age country - particularly Kane Brown. Years ago I stumbled across him while listening to Chris Young. He did a cover. I remember calling everyone I knew and sent them links to his YouTube. He was amazing back then and I SOOOO called it. I knew he'd make it out!! I also like 60s & 70s hits. I REALLY like r&b and rap/trap. R&B and hip hop have definitely gone two different ways. I lean towards the soul music type but will listen to some current hip hop if it's on.

I love supporting local rappers & r&b artists. I have a couple friends who are going to make it out of Milwaukee. And I know Munch Lauren personally. :)

Music is my favorite thing, and I believe that like art it is one of the few things in the world that bring together people of all ages. I love almost all genre of music, and have a deep appreciation for lyricist. Some of my personal favorites include anything by Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Louis Armstrong, Prince, Queen, The Beatles, George Straight, Garth Brooks, Guns and Roses, Journey, and the list would continue on and on..

Comedy is also extremely good for the soul and I will never pass up a chance to see a live show. One of the more recent ones I've seen (again) was Ron White, who is getting funnier in his old age as he has taken on this " I don't give a crap" attitude. I also really enjoy listening to the recording of Robin Williams when he was touring.

I have a few bands and songs from those bands that I would like to share! My favorite band currently is Lovelytheband. My favourite song of theirs is Maybe, I’m Afraid. I also like Twenty One Pilots and my favourite song of theirs is either Stressed Out or Jumpsuit or leave the city or Neon Gravestones and my last band is AJR they are a sorta-new band but they started out about 10-11 years ago singing on the streets of New York City. They have come so very far since then and have even had their first, second and third album tours in the past couple of years! My favourite song(s) of them currently is Weak and Normal.

Anything from the heavy Metallica (I love Enter the Sandman!) to the popular glam of Bon Jovi.
I am also a big fan of Queen and Pink Floyd (I particularly like Comfortably Numb).
The best live performances I have seen are probably Meatloaf (what a voice!) and Alice Cooper (what a performance!).

My favorite band would have to be The Neighbourhood. I have listened to them since their first album was released and I am still listening today. Since starting college earlier this year I have developed anxiety, this band is one of two things that I am able to calm myself down with. Thanks to this band I am able to sit down and actually focus while doing homework or take online tests. I also had the privilege of seeing them live this past July, which was my first concert and was absolutely incredible. They are the only band I have listened to for a long period of time. Even when my music preferences shift I somehow always come back to them.

I started out loving the music by Rick Springfield's music as well as seeing him on GH. This was the eighties.Loved rock'n'roll. The in high school I learned that I loved just about all types of music. Even heavy metal. I listen mostly to the new country now, occasionally the old. I love Billy Ray Cyrus, seen him in concert 8 times. Fell in love with him with his first song out- Achy Breaky Heart.
Still love Rick Springfield who put out his last album this year when he was almost 70 yrs old.

One of my favorite country song is Tim Mcgraw's Highway Don't care. It has such a a lesson to it. Many young people and some older ones, should really watch the video.

So I'm not a huge music fan in the way of going to concerts or following one band/person obsessively or anything like that. I enjoy listening to a lot of different music and, honestly, sometimes I could sing the song word for word but hardly know the band/person who sings it. lol

That said, one of my favorite performers is Lindsey Stirling. I love listening to her play the violin and, in person, she is just so nice and friendly, she seems like someone you could be friends with easily and she seems sincere and genuine. Obviously, I don't know her personally but that is truly how she comes off. Her shows are fun to watch as she includes a lot of dancing in addition to her playing. If you get the chance, check her out!

Preferences I love brindles, but like them all

Music- I love most kinds of music, but country is my favorite. I also like classic rock, some jazz, some r&b, and some of the oldies (which for me is pretty old lol).

Favorite songs - this is a tough one, but one of my all time favorites is my wedding song, Forever and Ever, Amen by Randy Travis. My husband and I still turn it up any time it comes on. My new song to him is In Case You Didn't Know by Brett Young, I love this song. I Believe by Brooks and Dunn is another big favorite of mine and so is pretty much anything by Hank Williams Sr.

Musical - My all time favorite musical is the first Fantasia. It was the first movie I ever saw in a walk-in theater and was captured by the use of just music to tell a story. It remains one of my favorites after all these years. The Unsinkable Molly Brown is another one that I just love

    Theme Entry:
Oh gosh, seconding Ren's love for Lindsay Stirling above. She's magical with her violin. But as for my favorite music - my dad and I were big Ren Faire goers before we would up three states apart. Not going in costume or anything, but hitting up as many of the music acts as we could, that sort of thing. My favorite Ren Faire band was called The Lost Boys. They wore teal kilts and had the premise of "rock and roll invented in 1599." So, instead of "Jack and Diane," they would sing "Henry and Ann" about how "life goes on, long after an new queen has come and gone." Beach Boys surf music became "Serf Music"..."If everybody had an acre they had to plow every day, they'd be serfing, serfing the England way."

They also had a really good fiddle player (now plays for the Kilted Kings), so maybe I'm noticing a common denominator here.

This was the kind of contest where your hands were tied behind your back, but Dave won, and Dad got second. The way my Dad told the story, it sounded like the third place winner was far behind.

The whole giveaway ends at Christmas. I will add prizes of 1 Million, 750k, and 500k hb. How many of each? Well, we'll see.

Don't forget, everyone who enters will get a prime, experienced show pony at the end, and everyone can enter once per theme. If you've already entered in the Word or Music months, you can enter again! All entries, including those in Phase 1, will be counted in the final drawings (excluding the entries that already won). I'll make another post next month to signal when new posts can be made and to remind everyone of the theme and terms. Please copy this form to your entry:

One of my favorite food related memories is my husband and I first thanksgiving together as a married couple I found out he had never had pumpkin pi so I made it from scratch as well as cranberry sauce from scratch and as a result ruined canned cranberry sauce for my self forever.

    Themed Entry:
    One of my favorite recipes.

Applesauce muffins, a recipe from my grandmother's grandmother.

    Melt 1 c. butter
Add 2 c. sugar, beat in 2 eggs.
Dissolve 2 tsp baking soda in one can (2 c.) warm applesauce.
Mix it all together with 3 c. flour, 1 c. raisins, 1 c. dates, 2 c. pecans, and 1/4 tsp each of allspice, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.

Divide into muffin tins or put it all in a cake pan for one big sliceable serving. Bake at 350 until done.

They're amazing fresh from the oven, but my favorite thing is to freeze the muffins and eat them when they're still semi-frozen on a summer day. They keep in the freezer amazingly well and it's a nice cool treat. :x
ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
