Introducing Roving Gene Sales!
-
You guys love those special gene sales, and I love offering them through the time to hand process the payments has been a real limitation. So I have created a new system that allows you to purchase special genes for your horses without having to wait for me to hand add them.
On the Real Money Upgrade page, you will now find the Roaving Gene Sales area. Twice a month there will be a selection of 3 genes. Some closed, some open, some very rare, some more common. The selection will change on the first and the fifteenth of every month. (Including this Saturday!)
Right now you can get your hands on ice 10, watercolor or satin, but the offering will swap on saturday. Don't miss out.

How much will the genes cost? I went to the page, but couldn't find pricing or anything, it only let me pick my horse, and that's it. I didn't plan on buying today, but i wanted to get prices in order for if/when i do decide. *Whelp. There goes all my future paychecks.* =))Love,

That’s funny, the prices are showing up on my page, right above the cart button, bright orange. Maybe try logging out and in?ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

I see it now. I accidentally just now scrolled, and I saw it. Lol! Guess i need to start scrolling over more with my phone when I can't find something. LolLove,

What is the difference between the closed and open genes?
-
Intact closed genes can only be shared among others that have also purchased the genes. Altered showhorses can be shared with anyone.
Open genes can be sold to anyone intact or otherwise -
Thanks Ammit, can't wait for the next round as that's when my money comes in. Now hoping to get the rest of the special genes I don't have and to add to the ones I love. :)
-
I like it and dont. Kindda takes away form the rare and special genes. It is fun to have a waiting list and know only happens here and there. To be honest, dont get mad at me ,just seen it before I could be wrong too but I feel like this game is turning into a cash out game. This game can be so much more then that. I really hope it doesnt follow down that path. I really dont like this roving door. It is fun to wait on open door special times. Now just taken it away. Really not that many special genes. I do like the pay/updated horse. I can understand easier on ammit to do it.
Again I love this game. Not a bad hit but a point to consider. The way I like to view thing is on all side that includes the bad side.
Theres good but also bad side to it. -
... and it has begun. Picked up two of this bunch and can't wait for the new ones this weekend. My poor bank account. @-)
-
Thanks, Ammit! The new system works perfectly. I see many new LE gene purchases in my future. I love my new ice 10 stallion:

While I’m actually excited for the ability to buy genes like this, I understand where @MakeMeABird is coming from, and I do have to admit there’s a small part of me that’s kinda scared. While not as blatant and distasteful as a lot of other games have been, this does feel a little bit like a money grab, and it does lessen the special aspect of waiting for an event to come along to get a special gene. I’ve seen so many other games die because they turned into money grabs, some of which were so beautifully crafted at first, and while this is still the most amazingly beautiful game I’ve ever come across, and still feels the most personal and caring, I do want to caution to please be careful. I want this game to continue to be a wonderful place to come to that seems to care about each and every player as it does now. Ammit, I want to thank you for taking the time to personally respond to players, making sure that problems are solved with kindness and fairness. I know you put so much effort into this precious game and I certainly don’t want to see it fail from lack of funds, so that’s certainly not what I’m implying - and I know that can be a hard balance. So thank you for all that you do. :)ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

@Lallyhop I wasnt being disrespectful at all. Again I noted I wanted to point out a bad thing that could go down the wrong path.
I spend alot my hard earn money here and time. I seen games I loved go down that hole and burn out quickly. I dont want that here. So I speak up. I myself run a business and I go highly of what customer point out that bad and thats where I improve! I believe that what we all want. A better game to a game we already love.
I know my view would be pointed out as rude or disrespectful. That was not how it was to come off. Perhaps I could be softer. But thats not me, but im harmless. -
Question on the roving gene sales... Some seem offered only as het. If you buy the gene, can you go back and add it again to the same horse?Justa ~ ID# 44842

I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be PLENTY of new genes coming along, and SUPER cool ways to celebrate special events, even WITH the roving gene sales!
I also love the fact that it gives everyone the opportunity to buy the genes they love. I remember having to drool over the genes that I just couldn't afford right at the moment they were issued. And new players might not otherwise get the chance to own the
genes for more than a real life year the old way, through no fault of their own!
I guess it's all in how you look at it, but I prefer to look at it as forcing even more and better creativity in the future! :D -
Personally, it makes me very happy. I'm on a super limited budget and can't afford to buy half a dozen genes at a once in a blue moon short-term sale I get little or no notice of to plan on, but one or two genes a month I can probably do. :DJusta ~ ID# 44842

@ConfluenceFarms That’s what I’m hoping for! I certainly have enough trust in Ammit as of right now, as she hasn’t let us down yet. :x
I guess I’m just a little scarred because I’ve had at least three very dearly loved games fall to the wayside because over half the player base left after a series of poor decisions that just kept getting worse - and about a dozen smaller games of the sort. To be fair, most of those were owned by larger companies (one was Bandai Namco - anyone here ever play Outcast Odyssey? Every trace of it has been wiped from existence, even the old forum board, last I checked) and so I believe this one will stick around far longer because Ammit does care about us. It’s what’s made me pour as much money as I have so far into this game, because I don’t put a cent into a game unless the developer has earned it. I suppose I just can’t help but worry, lol. This is such a beautiful game with so many amazing people it would break my heart if it ever shut down. I hope we can look forward to many amazing things in the future! :xISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

I agree with MakeMeABird's and Lally's concerns, I have my worries too but currently I am more excited than anything else.
I like to think of it as how much more Ammit will be able to do for this game with a more regular incoming cashflow.
I have only been playing this game a few months but I can already see it evolving in amazing ways.
Who knows what else is coming with all the revamping and money needs to come from somewhere to help Ammit take this game to the next level.
I see it as these genes have had their time in the sun, now it is time for new and exciting things to be debuted.
I can understand frustration in more established players that have dropped some serious time and cash into acquiring once rare genes that will now be more easily accessible/affordable to everyone. I have had this happen to me in other games and the experience sucked.
This could revitalize many genes that have almost faded out. I mean, look at W10! We may have a much better chance at getting a breeder's club reinstated for it now that it may cycle in more often.
Indirectly this will also help players that can't afford to buy their own genes as there will be a greater pool of open gene culls available than when the genes were rarer and people were loathe to let anything unsnipped leave their barns.
And closed genes are still closed. So they are still special but there will be more opportunities for them to be expressed in new and creative ways as more people put their own spin on them.
I have so many breeding dreams that I thought would stay dreams.
I never thought I would be able to afford a hom satin foundation but now I do and I am so excited to see where his lines will go.
I can't wait to see where this goes! :D

As a newer player, I hear you concerns and I understand them. But to be honest I didn't even know how to get the closed genes and I LOVED the watercolour one. Now that they're a bit more open, I've been inspired greatly to start my own line! I would have never done that with my other "lines" - I didn't have a purpose, just some fleeting ideas. Now I do! Watercolour grey appies! \:D/
-
I think the roving gene sales are amazing! I have played games where you have to pay to succeed and move forward in the game. This game is not like that when it comes to the genes, as game play is not disadvantaged by not having the closed genes. The decision to spend money is purely based on desire, not a requirement. Ammit does need money to keep the game going, so this is just another way to do that. Love this game! :)Thanked by 1Lallyhop
-
If these rare genes could be shared I would agree with the above it would be a problem, but the closed ones can't be and that makes all the difference. HAJ is a 12 year old game. It has lasted that long because I am very careful with how I treat the economy of the game. This change would not and could not have happened before gene licensing

Thank you for the roving gene sale Ammit. I really like the ide!! Knowing tha a gene I wasn’t sure I originally liked but really like now, allows me to stock up on mares to best compliment the gene and way I want the line to express...Watercolor, Chinchilla, Axiom, Nexus, Wrong Warp, Nacre, Ice 5/8, Satin and Pearl
-
I really like this roving gene sale especially since sometimes a gene goes on sale and I either can't afford it at that time or I'm just not 100% sold on it. Then it goes away and I start to see some of the babies and more examples of the gene and I go 'Darn! I should have bought it!' Now though, you potentially can buy into those genes if/when they go on sale. So I'm very excited for the opportunity.ID: 40723

Thank Ammit for viewing my worry. I just love the game as it offer nothing like another game out there.
I hope it works out. -
I love this system. It gives me the chance to get it now, or the ability to buy it later when it comes around again. Plus I get to support a game I absolutely love and gives me the release from stress that I need.
This system also gives Ammit the break she needs to be able to further improve the game for us because she's always putting us first. Instead of her having to put the genes on each horse by hand, this system does it for her and frees her up to do all the other awesome things she's been working so hard on.
Thank you, Ammit for giving us the chance to own these genes, and a system that randomly brings them up for us. It's like Christmas twice a month. You never know what you're going to get. :) I'm still looking forward to the GMT, barn, pasture, and boost sales. Thank you for all you do. -
Also I think its important for people to remember that no one HAS to buy anything. You can play this game and have a great time free it just takes a little longer in some aspects. Unfortunately for us (well our bank accounts) and fortunately for Ammit most of us got addicted quickly and special genes are too hard to resist and we're lucky enough to be able to purchase them. (says the girl with 11/17 licences) I am aware that some people cant but this system gives everyone a chance to save some money if they are looking to buy a special gene. I think this is cool. I assume (but I dont know for sure) when brand new genes come out there will be events like there always has been. This gives the older genes some time to come around again on a semi-regular basis. So if we've missed them or just want to add them again we can.
Also before I saw Ammits comment I was going to say "I do see your points but the game has been around for more than a decade I think if it was going to turn into one of the games that decides you need to spend a ton of money for everything it would have happened by now"
-
I just wanted to clarify the gene purchase. Are we only able to purchase as a het for the horse? Is there a way to get hom gene? Or would we have to buy 1 gene now and wait for it to roll back over again to do that other?
-
I just bought watercolor for a horse on HaJ1. This is what happened.
Once I figured out where it was that I should select the horse to be changed (I was so focused on watercolor, the last of the options that I couldn't see the drop down box at the top of the section :\"> ), I selected the horse (putting a space in front of his name so he'd show up) then clicked the order button. This took me to a page that offered me the option to purchase the alleles. I selected one and found myself on the usual order description page. I upped the number of alleles to 2, and finished the Paypal purchase. By the time I got back to my primary barn, I had a homozygous watercolor stallion.De gustibus non disputandum. oh perfect. I wasn't sure what screens there were beyond the "add to cart" so I wasn't sure.

@RedDeeFarms
You can make you horse het or hom.
It is set up kinda like the GMT lab where you edit the gene for the sire's side or the dam's side of the horse.
If you want a het horse you buy the gene for one side (or strand) and if you want your horse to be hom you buy the gene twice for each allele or strand.ID# 47364

I am sure there will be new genes coming out. Aren't these just the genes that have already be introduced to us? Gives us a chance to get the ones we missed or to increase the ones we love.
I for one love this idea. Can't wait to see what genes come out of draw every 15 days. :)
Thanks a lot Ammit.Thanked by 1BlackWyld -

This is incorrect and will not work. This will cause you to have two copies added in the same spot. This only worked because I had added horses while it was bugged. You must purchase no more than one copy per strand per horse. This will buy two copies for the same strand.
Instead, add strand one to your cart and then strand two to your cart.
I welcome any suggestions to make this clearer on the page.

Perhaps, below "You may modify the genetics of any horse you own that is unbred, and gene tested." you could add something like: To make the horse homozygous for a gene, add strand one to the cart, then return to this page to add strand two."
This may help aging brains excited by something new like mine from jumping to conclusions when faced with a familiar form where where one increases one's order by adding to the number purchased. Of course this assumes that the purchaser will actually read the directions first. :D

So correct me if I am wrong, You need to purchase 2 copies to make a gene homo. For example the splash M. You add the same horse twice to the gene so it will show on your paypal as purchasing 2 genes.
For het you just purchase one gene. Does splash M show up with one copy? -
I believe Splash M is a complete dominant--it shows up with one copy.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

To purchase two genes:
Select horse: click add to cart on FIRST strand, then click continue shopping. You will then need to click add to cart in SECOND gene strand to get a hom horse.
Splash M shows up as het, Ice five shows up as het, and Mushroom must be hom to show.
I hope this helps. (I would have posted a screenshot, but it isn't pulling up for next right now. I'm sorry!)
Let me know if I explained it okay?
To get your horse to show in the drop down list:
Add a space in front of their name and they should appear. -
Ah, I see that you have to have a horse selected to see both strands. It is all clear and makes perfect sense.
-
Yes. :) I'm glad you were able to get it to work for you! Can't wait to see what you've created! :)
-
@Divine: Mushroom is recessive and you need two copies to have it “show”. Mushroom works only on red pigment (so red and bay base) and desaturates red pigment to some degree. Here is a link to the original sale and Ammits post about the gene at that time. As you can see, mushroom is most dramatic on flaxen liver and on chocolate palomino.
