White Factor Extensiveness - does it breed true?
  • So white factor seems to rise the more more generations you go. It seems to only go up. I can breed a "None" to a "light" and get a "medium" or even "large". I would like to keep WF low in my lines.

    Any tips?
  • Bumping this because I am curious to see if anyone has an answer. All I can think of is to every so often GMT your stud’s white factor down - maybe every two or three generations, so if you have a 2G stud with large white factor, dropping it to none, then doing the same with the 4G and the 6G, etc.

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
  • I'd also like to see if someone has a good answer with this. I've been trying to keep mine low because I love breeding Sabino and splash M with appy and would like to see it. :) I know W20 is always an issue for me.

  • It doesn't breed exactly true, but my observations are that it does follow rough inheritance patterns, so two medium WF horses will throw a full range of WF foals more or less than them, but two horses with WF of none will mostly have foals in the lower range of WF's. Of course if you get medium WF from those two, and breed that one when grown up back to another medium WF, then of course yes you can very quickly get back to extensive WF
  • I remember Ammit saying it's a roughly inheritable thing like kintara says.
