Recommended Audiobook/Podcast:
I don't listen to too many podcasts but am a reading fanatic.
Kim Harrison is a great author if you like present day supernatural fiction. Her stuff is a great blend of mystery, romance, and make you laugh out loud on the bus humour.
I wish I had a show pony with: I am not picky at all as long as they are bringing in the moola but any closed gene that I do not have, which is most of them, is always fun. LOL

Books:
Markus Heitz, The Dwarves Series
First of all, I can not vouch for the quality of the English translation, as I have been reading all the books in German. There are 5 books overall, I just discovered, that he wrote a fifth one. I liked the universe he created so much, that I got my sister to send me the book from Germany to the US (first try got lost in the mail, ugh). As I said on my other account NorisBay, one of the key factors for me is, if the author is able to create a believable universe, and the author did that just fine. I am anxiously awaiting book number 5 to learn how the story will come to a conclusion (or not...)!
Preferences for show ponies: no preferences
Thank you for this great give away that has tons of reading/listening input, too!Thanked by 1Cheers -
@NorisBay KP and Kit Promoter are the same thing. Basically KP is a hidden gene that isn’t testable and that only shows (expresses) if two conditions are met. The first is a horse has to be homozygous for KP. The second is the horse also has to have two pattern genes at the Kit locus. It can be two of the same pattern or two different patterns, but the horse has to have Roan, Tobiano, Sabino, or White spotting (including W20). If both of those conditions are met, the horse will express some degree or another of white, gauzy, Roan-y “clouds” over the coat.
I will make sure you get a KP pony in your 5!Thanked by 1NorisBay -

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: Stephen King's Dark Tower series. I absolutely loved the books and am really enjoying listening to the audiobooks.
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): I love the snowflake, mushroom, and chinchilla horses! -
@Cheers
(Already entered) I do remember reading one book in my life. Fahrenheit 451. If you haven't read it, that's an amazing book about it being illegal to have books. Where I live (Alabama, USA) some books are actually illegal to own. Including Fahrenheit 451, the book about illegal book owning. :))Love,
Spry -
@SpryofJune I read it forever ago and watched the recent TV movie version that just came out here! I didn’t realize that it was still banned in some places but knew it had previously been on banned book lists. What scared me about the new movie is that I can see where we might sort of be headed in that direction...
And if it’s banned in Alabama, it’s probably banned in some parts of Arkansas too... -
@Cheers
Cool. And yeah, I see that. It's a bit sad.
Honestly, though, I have the book at my grandmother's in Louisiana, and I so want it here, but I don't know how enforced the banned aspect is.
Oh. Okay. Yeah, makes sense.Love,
Spry -

Yes definitely read Inkheart like someone suggested!
As for the Earths Children books; The Clan of The Cave Bear wasn’t super interesteding but once I got to The Valley Of Horses I was quite fond of the characters and wanted to follow their journey through the rest of the series. But it’s been a few years since I read them.
If you’re into action at all, Matthew Reilly is quite a popular Aussie author, if you haven’t read any of his books yet. -
I love Matthew Reilly! Great Zoo of China is one of the best books I’ve read in a long time and I can’t wait for the new book coming out in a few months.

Recommended Audiobook/Podcast: I should really get into more podcasts, considering the length of my work commute, but I really prefer words on a page at home, and listening to NPR programming in the car.
Having said that, I really like--okay, love--Jim Butcher's The Dresden Files series. It's urban fantasy; essentially the ongoing story of Harry Dresden, Chicago's first consulting wizard. I thought it started out a little slow, but 15 books in, the characters and their story arcs are amazing. Dresden runs into everything from faeries to vampires to angels to fallen angels, ghosts, werewolves, jaded cops, angsty teens, other wizards... the list goes on.
The series is available on audiobook and all but one novel have been narrated by James Marsters. (From Buffy the Vampire Slayer.)
I really wish I had a show pony with... whatever. I'm not fussy. I love all my show ponies. :)

@Cheers, I rented the Harry Potter audio books from the Library and then imported them into my iTunes :) free audio book versions! As far as versions, I have the audio, paperback and hardcover versions and plan on getting the illustrated versions for my son as well. I have done the same with the Percy Jackson books by borrowing from the library. I also have them in papberback for my son to actually read and not just listen too lolWatercolor, Chinchilla, Axiom, Nexus, Wrong Warp, Nacre, Ice 5/8, Satin and PearlThanked by 1Cheers

Recommended Audiobook/Podcast: I have to recommend And This Is Why We Drink! It's a podcast from two best friends and each contribute a real story for discussion. The first is usually a spooky ghost story and the second is usually a murder. I know those are pretty dark subjects, but they are so funny! They also have a doggie companion named Geo and he is so cute. They have really active social media communities too, so it is easy to find friends!

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: I don't do audiobooks or podcasts, so my suggestion is an actual paper pages book! I'm currently ready the 'In the Garden' trilogy by Nora Roberts. I love it! The characters are so real. You almost feel like you know them. The story is interesting, with a haunted southern mansion, and family secrets.
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): I am really partial to draft horses, so anything draft with some odd genes thrown in would be perfect. Thank you!Thanked by 1Cheers -
Ok, I’ve had the Dresden Files recommended in several places now and I’ve downloaded the first. It’s in the queue behind several other things but I’m looking forward to checking it out! If you like that, it sounds like you might like the Iron Druid Chronicles too and I can’t recommend Luke Daniels’ narration enough!
BigBrook I will give them a try. It does sound dark, but if it’s actually funny it’s worth a listen!
Pagan, I’m a Nora Roberts tragic myself...though it’s an addiction I’m a bit guilty about. I have read and reread most of her stuff so many times... have you read book one of her new Trilogy (Year One, with Of Blood And Bone coming out the end of this year) yet? It’s much darker and a very different feel...maybe her most original book in a very long time but I’m not sure I like this new voice. I’d be interested in your take if you’ve read it.
Getting y’all’s horses posted in a few minutes!Thanked by 1pfrsue -
I hope you love the Dresden Files. I have like the first 10 they are great. Also, check out the Odd Tomas books.45140Thanked by 1Cheers

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: I'm enjoying Girl in Space Podcast lately, it's pretty new so there aren't many episodes yet ( it is on spotify though) . Why I love it the world building is great, mystery about a few things, the characters are great too!
Some other podcasts I've been into lately are Alba Salix, Wolf 359, The White Vault, King Falls AM, Ostium, and deadly manners ( a 10 episode murder mystery). As for Audio books some of the Anne of Green Gables Books are on spotify (I really enjoyed listening to them a couple months ago). Many other classics like the Sherlock Holmes stories are a great listen to in my opinion at, just check out Wordscape and/or DBS audiobooks on spotify both of those have tons of audiobooks.
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): no special wishes here

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: I've only really listened to Ready Player One. It's futuristic where most everyone lives in a virtual world called the Oasis. When the owner dies a challenge is released where the players can hunt to solve his riddles and find his fortune.
There was a recent film adaptation to it as well and as amazing as the movie was, I definitely like the book better. Both are full of references to old video games like pac-man or movies like Back To The Future. Some can be hard to spot too.
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): I just need good show ponies :)Thanked by 1Cheers -

Podcast Recommendation: The Joe Rogan Experience
If you want to learn something, listen to this podcast! He brings all sorts of experts in their respective fields (everyone from medical experts to physics and everything in between). Caution though - it can be a little coarse sometimes, language and stuff, it's definitely adult material.Thanked by 1Cheers -

Favorite audiobook is hard. I've listened to so many! Outlander stands out just based on the beautiful detail and the author's way to wording is simply beautiful. And let's be honest a story about a woman traveling back in time and falling in love with a Scottish clansman is a good part too.
I really dont have a special request for the show ponies...I'm focusing more on showing that anything else at this point!Breeder of the tallest draftsThanked by 1Cheers -

Sigma, the HP series is so good! Have you read her Cormoran Strike mystery series, written under a pseudonym?
goldensun, I’ve got Deadly Manners on the list!
TacetLupus, I saw the movie! I will add the book to the list.
Stella19, that sounds just up my alley!
Apollo I read the Outlander series a while back on the recommendation of a good friend. I really enjoyed it but haven’t picked up the recently released books. I tried the tv series and just couldn’t get into it... -

Recommendation? I don't actually do podcasts or audiobooks because I'm hard of hearing and I miss too many words, but I love to read. I would recommend the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. There are a ton of books. If you've never read them, you might want to skip the first couple and start with the third or fourth (don't worry, he does a recap at the beginning of the book up until book 14? when he finally says he's done it enough). He just doesn't quite find his feet until then. Most people skip the first couple and then go back later to read them. (Unless you're me, but I'm odd.) It's an amazing world that is hard to put down, and always easy to come back to.
Or if you like getting lost in the depression times, my favorite book from that era is A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith.
I forgot the show pony request part! Sorry!
I honestly am not picky. I'm happy with anything. I'm especially fond of the horses you have with the creative names. :)Thanked by 1Cheers -

Recommended Audiobook/Podcast: I have never used an audiobook or podcast, but I love to read. I have a kindle paper white that I carry with me. I read it daily while waiting in line to pick up my granddaughter at school.
I have to say Urban Fantasy is one of my favorite types. I have several different series on my ebook. After checking, most are available on audio.
Ilona Andrews - Kate Daniels series - has to be one of my favorites. There are 17 "books" in the series, with several novellas & short stories that add to the series. Sadly, the last book in the series comes out Aug 28. Can't wait to read it, but wish it wasn't ending.
It's a world of division, magic against technology. Both fighting to be on top.
Quote from the website: "In this world lives Kate Daniels. Kate likes her sword a little too much and has a hard time controlling her mouth. The magic in her blood makes her a target, and she spent most of her life hiding in plain sight. But sometimes even trained killers make friends and fall in love, and when the universe tries to kick them in the face, they kick back."
I wish I had a show pony with: No special request, but I have very few of the licensed gene ponies. Seems like when the genes are up for sale, real money is short.
Thank you Cheers for putting this contest up.
Thanked by 1Cheers -
Cheval—I’ve read some Terry Pratchet but I don’t think I’ve ever read any of the Discworld series. I love Tree Grows in Brooklyn!
Mist—that sounds like a really awesome combination of the fantasy I love and sci fi. I’m looking forward to checking it out! -
I love mine as well! The names are amazing! They made me smile when I needed it most. Thank you!Thanked by 1Cheers

Recommended- I don't do audiobooks/podcasts but I do love to read
I'd have to say the Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy by Tad Williams is one of my favorites.
The Dragonbone chair
The stone of farewell and
To green angel tower
They're long but well worth every minute spent reading them.
Also in a completely opposite direction, Larry McMurtry can seriously write a great Western.
Dead Man's Walk
Comanche Moon
Lonesome Dove and
Streets of Laredo
They all come together to tell one seriously epic story.
I just love a good, long book. I can read most in a day so when they have a whole lot to them I just gotta see what's going on between the covers lol.
Gone with the wind by Margaret Mitchell is also one of my all time favorites and is tons better than the movie.
I have no preference in show ponies, I just like em to show well lol. -
I read Gone with the Wind like 20 years ago over a summer! Such a good book and way better than the movie!

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: If you enjoyed Gone with the Wind, you should read 'Scarlett' by Alexandra Ripley. It gives you her continuing story. I really loved it.
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): Anything liver! Love those really dark ones! -
Whoever recommended Potterless, the podcast, you rock! I’ve been laughing and groaning along to nearly the first 3 books now and I’ve got to say, seeing it from an adult perspective (even though I’ve reread the books many times as an adult and even was in my 20s when the last few books were released) is different and will make my next reread different for sure...but I’m loving listening to this guy come to love characters I absolutely treasure and hate characters I loathe...and his reaction to Dobby! Can’t wait to see how he feels about Dobby later! Anyway, any of you who enjoy HP, I recommend this. Adult language and some adult themes, so not for children. Should be fine for the ages allowed on this site but obviously use your judgement.
Cherry Ive heard mixed reviews on Scarlett, but may pick it up based on your recommendation. Should I reread GWTW first given it’s been 20+ years? -
Cheers, some people I've talked to say they hated it, but I really loved it. I did reread GWTHW before starting it, just to refresh my memory. Of course there is a bit of a difference in the style of the 2 authors, but the story is excellent IMHO.
-
Ok. It will go on the list!
-
This is open through the end of the weekend and will then close so I can focus on a few end of season/between season projects like culling pastures. Get in while you can! Remember, side accounts can enter, you just need to give me a fresh recommendation!
