Established Show Pony Give Away
-
This worked really well last month, and my show pony barns are almost full again!!!
I am giving away 5 established show ponies to each person who enters below. These ponies will be 10 years old or less with at least 500 points each, unless you choose to request a pony with a special gene in which case one of your ponies may be younger and lower pointed. I have almost every gene in the game but do not have homozygous foals with the new genes, Ice 13, Private Ice genes of Snowflake.
Anyone may enter, no matter how long you’ve been playing. If you have multiple accounts, they can all enter but each must give a new audiobook/podcast recommendation (see below). If you entered last month, I’d prefer that you give a new recommendation but will not be checking to see if you do. If you want to post a recommendation but don’t need ponies, leave out your Player ID#.
So, how do you get your ponies? Post your Player ID#, your current daily show bonus (on your Member Home page), your favorite podcast or audiobook recommendation and why you like it or what it’s about, and if you want a show pony with a special gene. Ponies will be put up for sale in a special Show Pony Give Away buddy chat. I will put them up as I get to it through the day—please be patient as I am in Australia and not necessarily awake when the USA is!
Sample entry:

Recommended Audiobook/Podcast: I’ve listened to almost all of the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearn, narrated by Luke Daniels (awesome narrator! He does all the character voices and everything!) based on RedDee’s recommendation last month. It’s hilarious, exciting, fun to listen to. It’s about the last living Druid on earth, his battles with various gods, demons and vampires, his relationship with his Irish wolfhound, his apprentice and various other friends... I particularly like that in this fantasy world the various gods of all of the various religions worldwide are all “alive” and make appearances on Earth either causing mischief or ministering to their followers. Very cool and highly recommended!
I wish I had a show pony with: still looking forward to Hom Wrong Warp! -
Anyone can enter.

Reccommended Audiobook/Podcast: Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls (also was just made into a fantastic movie last year). The true memoirs of journalist Jeannette Walls. Four siblings must learn to care for each other as their free-spirited parents' fantastical efforts to avoid responsibility both encourage their imaginations and limit their opportunities. At times I could hardly believe what I was reading but it was such a good book!ID# 43830

Audiobook: Ooh, this is difficult. Okay. Well, I have two suggestions (one is a TV show, but hey. I'm sure you'll love it) okay, so, the Audiobook that you should listen to is called The Child Thief, by Gerald Brom. Its kind of dark, (and so is the TV show that in gonna suggest) but its AMAZING. I personally don't really like to read large books, and so when I was in ninth grade, I got my own audible account to help me find the will to read, and that book was in my suggestion list. I don't wanna say much, but I will say that its based off of the classic story Peter Pan, but with some dark twists. (Again, its dark and can talk about things that aren't usually talked about, but that's what makes it so unique. :D )
Little fact: the author lives in the same city as I do. :)
TV show: American Horror story / or Arrested development. You need to look 'em up, I can't do them justice by trying to explain them. :)Thanked by 1Cheers -

@MariaChapinFarm3 there is NO way to explain Arrested Development. I will be skipping American Horror Story as I totally don’t do horror (serious suspension of disbelief here = really bad nightmares). Is the book scary/suspenseful or just a little dark?

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: I have listened to the book thief on audio book a while ago. The book itself was so long I didn’t think I’d be able to make time to read it so I listened it it! I really enjoyed it.EasternShowBarn

Its a little dark, its not scary; its extremely suspenseful too. Have you ever heard of the grimm fairytails? Its kind of like that, that's the best way I can explain it.

AudioBook/Podcast: I love audiobooks of everything from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones so I can listen while doing horse work, housework, and my daily commute. Currently listening to the Percy Jackson Books with my son who is starting 2nd grade.
I wish I had a show pony with hom Chinchilla since I opted to get wrong warp instead, but after seeing a bunch of the silver black Chinchilla, I wish I had gotten Chinchilla instead. Starting to collect silver black mares so that when it comes around again, I will be ready lol. Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: PlanetMoney is a fun podcast, usually around 20 mins each and it explains the economics behind random topics. They're usually quick and entertaining. All posted so far! Enjoy y’all!
@Xceptional I read a Dean Koontz like 20 years ago and didn’t sleep for a week after (see above about nightmares). However, I recently picked up the book he wrote about his golden retriever, who was a failed service dog. Lovely and sweetly written and clearly she was very dear to them! -

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why:
Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
10 years after her daughter disappears on her way to the library to study, Laurel is finally ready to start moving on when she meets a charming man whose youngest daughter looks just like her missing child.
I dislike horror or scary stuff but I really enjoyed listening to this audio book when I was commuting back and forth working out of town last week. My computer died and I haven’t been able to replace it yet or I would’ve been able to finish it much quicker because I spent quite a bit of time thinking about when I could return to the story. It has the potential to be scary but I found it tended to gloss over the bad parts and just allude to what happened without spelling it out.Thanked by 1Cheers -

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: Have you read the Earth’s Children series by Jean M Auel? I’m not sure if they’re available on audio but I quite enjoyed the series and own all of them to reread again. It’s based back in the time of Neanderthals and woolly mammoths.
I’m currently reading Blood Upon The Sand which is the sequel in a series set in the desert about a young female pit fighter. The first one is called Twelve Kings Of Sharakhai if you want to look it up.

Recommended Audiobook/Podcast: I've bene getting back into Kurt Vonnegut lately, and I'm sure you could find some good audiobooks of him. It's honestly eerie how his books from 50+ years ago predicted how the world is today...
For a podcast, I like the Insanely Chill podcast by Noel Miller and Cody Ko on YouTube, particularly when they have special guests. They interview a lot of internet/YouTube personalities and it's interesting to see those types of people in a more relaxed environment when they're not "on" for the camera.
Thanks again for doing this!Thanked by 1Cheers -

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: Alright, I'm going to show my true colors as a nerd here, but I really enjoyed listening to The Gene, by Siddhartha Mukherjee. It's about the history of genetics and how our understanding changed over time, and goes into how we learned to manipulate genes. I'm a biomedical science major so I'm inherently interested in the subject, but I listened to it having only taken two semesters of general biology. The author is really good with his explanations and I understood almost everything he talked about. Nice and long, kept me occupied for a summer.
Thanks so much for the generous giveaway, enjoy all the new listening material!Thanked by 1Cheers -

Uhh... I don't read... Or listen to books...
But if I may suggest a movie, I *highly* recommend the Divergent Series. (Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant, and Ascendant). They're amazing! I can't stop watching them. Actually, I love them so much, I've thought about getting the books and reading them. And if you know me, you know that's a total shock, because when I say I don't read, I'm not even joking. Whatsoever. So, if you haven't seen them, I highly recommend you do so!
I wish I had a show pony with... Heck, just a show pony works! :)) But closed genes work, too. Or lots of white, just not solid white. :))
Thanks for doing this! :)Love,

Thank you so much for the opportunity to obtain a few more show ponies. I am SO happy you chose the Iron Druid Chronicles! Luke is by far the best narrator I've ever listened to. Oberon's voice in the 1st book is a little iffy but he "finds" his voice in the 2nd and 3rd book. I love his baseball references =)) I actually named my Dalmatians Brigid and Atticus after the book series. We wanted to get a wolf hound but they have such a short life :(
Okay, my next recommendation. I have a few books/series that are HILARIOUS but they're not suited for the younger audience (too, um, adult). I don't want to name them here. If you're interested in something like that, PM me and I can share these gems! I'm just not sure if its okay to share on the open forum.Thanked by 1Cheers -

Reccomendation: Face Like Glass, by Frances Hardinge (or any of her books really). In the dark underground city of Caverna, trade masters create fantastical delicacies - cheese strong enough to stun a man from 20 meters, or wine that can remove or return memories. Facial expressions aren't instinctive and must be learned. A girl with a face terrifying to those who see it must learn her true identity and save her city. Hardinge is a world-building master! If you don't love fantasy and mystery (and like, who doesn't) you'll love the colorful cultures and worlds she creates!ID# 47894

Recommendation: if you haven’t already read or listened to this I think it is really great and it’s one of my favorites! Book/audiobook: Animal Farm By George Orwell
It was first published in England on 17, August 1945.The book reflects events leading up to the Russian Revolution of 1917 and then on into the Stalinist era of the Soviet Union and communism. It uses Animals but behind the animals were actual people and it helps you understand that era more in a way you can actually relate.Bounty warmbloods and Riding horses {Nexus~Wrong Warp~Pearl~Ice~sooty+ & kitm}

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: If you want a good laugh I would recommend Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich. They can be listened to out of order, but the first book has a more mature sounding person that fits the personality more. When we go across the country for horse shows this is what we listen to.

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: The Way of Kings, by Brendan Sanderson. Book 1 of a planned 10 (2 series of 5). Epic fantasy. Awesome worldbuilding with characters that are not black and white (i.e. that trope where the hero is always good, never shades of gray, the bad guy is always bad). It's currently my favorite series, though each book is LONG. If you're looking for something that will last a while, this will do it ;)
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): any, lol. Daily bonus at 2559 is still pretty low. I'm waiting for my babies to age up, but until they do, it's rough going :)Thanked by 1Cheers -

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series (starting with Soulless). British humor, steampunk, supernatural all fuse in an amusing and dryly witty victorian sort of British world. I never fail to be entertained by them.
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): Points. I'm about to lose my top 3 show horses, 1 of which I got through AtA. Combined, (all three are 17) I'm going to lose around 5k points. Trying to ease the sting pre-emptively :) Thanks a ton for this!Thanked by 1Cheers -
As for books/podcasts—
I’ve added Ear Biscuits and Planet Money to my subscription list and look forward to listening to them! For those of you who like podcasts that interview interesting people, I recommend Conversations with Richard Feidler, which are sort of roughly 1 hour conversations/interviews with all sorts of interesting people, from artists to scientists to politicians to “normal” people who have had interesting experiences, like a guy who builds and maintains dry stone walls and a guy who is a shepherd in the highlands of Scotland...
I have downloaded The Face of Glass, the first throne of Glass book, The Gene and one of RedDee’s recommendations. I am also intrigued by the new The President Is Missing by James Patterson with Bill Clinton. It doesn’t seem to be out on audiobook format yet but it looks fascinating so I will either pick up a paper copy or put it on the list for later in audio format.
Hunter, check out the Janet Evanovich Lee Childs collaboration books if you like the Stephanie Plum novels. I love both.
Gracie and Kaliedoscope, I haven’t read those books in a very long time, but it may be time to revisit them...
Spry, the Hunger Games killed teenage distopian trilogies for me. I read the first two “Divergent” books but can’t bring myself to read the third (didn’t even know there was a fourth) after how the HG series ends. I was so disappointed! I loved The Giver as a kid and really no other utopia/disutopia books have really measured up since I don’t think. Do try to read the books though!
Aleki, I don’t mind a bit of Hamish and Andy!
Eastern—I loved the Book Thief! Did you see the movie version? Was it any good?
Levesel—I’ve heard the HP audiobooks are amazing...I may go there. I already am buying the illustrated editions of the books, which means I own them in 2 formats now (my originals and the new illustrated ones)...not sure how I’d justify buying audio versions to the husband...maybe I can borrow them from the library?
Bandit, I’m not sure I’ll like it but I will pick up a copy and read a chapter next time I’m at the library to see!
Squish—I picked up one of her books way way way back like 20 years ago and it didn’t suck me in. I will give it another try!

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: I'm going to add a couple as I can't remember what I've suggested. Duma Key by Stephen king, the witching hour & other Mayfair books by Anne Rice, and if you like Harry potter there is a podcast called potterless that is making me laugh. Ps, have you read ink heart?
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional):45140Thanked by 1Cheers -
And Potterless is downloading now!
No I don’t think I’ve read Ink Heart. Also on the list.
Zuulai, isn’t Brian Sanderson the one who had to finish the Wheel of Time series when that author died without finishing it? Are the books like WoT? Because I loved the first few and then he just got too bogged down and I couldn’t keep on with the series... -

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why: The Left Behind series (I’m not 100% certain these are on audiobook but I feel like I’ve seen them at my library before). Really neat dystopian/future fiction based on the events of the book of revelation, with awesome characters. Sherlock Holmes (I know at least a few of these are on audio book) because, um, because it’s Sherlock Holmes, what more reason do you need? :P Watership Down - because if you’ve never read this one, you’re seriously missing out.ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

Audiobook/Podcast Recommendation and Why:
I wasn't going to join in because I don't listen to podcasts or audiobooks, but Zuulai convinced me to do it anyway so here goes nothing, in the time-honored tradition of that old radio show that said "And now for something completely different!"
1) First, one of my favorite sci-fi adventures, the Troy Rising series by John Ringo, especially the first book, 'Live Free Or Die', which is the story of a guy who goes from being a handyman and comic author to far more after an alien invasion presents him with an opportunity. The book is fast-paced, funny, and full of little details that will make any geek happy, so I'm hoping the audiobook would be fun too.
2) Next, one of my very favorite epic-fantasy novels, 'The Eye Of The World' by Robert Jordan. I first read this novel right after it was released in paperback, and twenty years later I still go back and reread because I love the characters so much. The characters, setting, and story begun in 'Eye Of The World' carried on through one of the longest fantasy series out there, I think, so if you need to eat up a few weeks, this is the series that can do it.
3) For something much shorter, funny, and far more accurate about reality, I wholeheartedly recommend Joan Hess' Maggody mystery novels about a lady police chief named Arly Hanks. Each novel stands alone so they can easily be read out of order, and they are all fun and very funny. Hess has a spectacular grasp of small-town Arkansas and the colorful characters you'll find there, and her mysteries are well done. I've gone back to this series many times when I needed a good laugh. I swear I went to high school with some of the characters. :))
I Wish I Had a Show Pony with (optional): I have show ponies of literally all shapes and sizes and I'm not at all picky, though my favorites are mostly pearl or dun with sabino 2, appy, kit M, or all of the above. :)Justa ~ ID# 44842

Yeah, Brendan Sanderson is the author who finished the wheel of time series. I personally love the series I recommended, but I read literally everything the guy writes. He's seriously one of my favorite authors. If Way of Kings (and the Stormlight archive series) is too large in scope, you might like his Mistborn series (4 books, much shorter, but very good), or if you're looking for YA level material, the Reckoners series (starts with Steelheart, 3 books). He also has tons of standalone books, some of which have won awards. He's one of, probably 2 authors that are on my "If you don't have a book by this author, buy it if you see it" list.
Thanked by 1Cheers -
Cool, Zuulai! If you haven’t already, check out Raymond E Feist. His Magician series (encompassing probably 30 books?) is excellent and his new series has just begun with 1 book out (Firemane Saga) and I love it maybe even more than Magician.Thanked by 1Zuulai
-
I think I've read almost all of the magician series. We had a book shelf full of them at one point. Our bookshelves are busy places, lol, only the ones I truly Love get to stay (or reference books). I liked that series, but didn't love them enough to keep. I may check out the Firemane Saga once there are a few more books, there's nothing like the 2 year wait between books in a series that you really enjoy, lol.

Books, not podcast:
The Expanse series
It's Science Fiction, and it's one of my go to book series to read when I want to escape from the world for a bit. An important part for me when liking books is, if the author manages to create a believable, consistent universe that will draw me in (like Tolkien). The Expanse books do just that. There is a TV series made based on the books, and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised about the translation from books to film.
No special wishes for show ponies. I am starting to get a bit nosy about that mysterious Kit promoter and KP. But that seems to be a long term breeding project for me, once I manage to understand...Thanked by 1Cheers
