Best way to raise your daily hbs
-
I finally managed to purchase my first 1000 stall barn! :x I currently have 318 show horses and I'm looking to expand! My question, what is the best way to get the best show ponies and raise your daily hbs? Should I just continue to breed show ponies via boostrapping, buy high ptd in auction, create "great show horse" DHH? Or, all of the above?
-
All of the above will help. :)
Plus, a mixed approach to building your show string will help increase it more quickly and will give you some variety in ages and number of points already gained. Sometimes, new players who are still able to create horses with points are more interested in breeding than showing, and so offer them for sale on the forum.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I have some high PT foals that were spelded and I'm running out of room. If you'd like some PM me and I'll sell you them at auction price.
-
I don’t breed specifically for show horses. I just breed grullos with white patterns and then mercilessly geld and spay everything that isn’t that or consistent or STS or papered high enough for their generation etc. Lol
Then I keep everything. High PT, low PT, inconsistent, wrong colour don’t care they all earn me something.
I’m down to 88k after roll over but should be back to 90 k/day soon. My show horses just bought their 3rd 1000 stall barn.
But if your looking to buy I’d be stalking the auction and putting the base bid as many horses as it will let you bid on starting with the highest pointed and working down the search list as many times a week as you can. -
How do you get to the point that you can keep everything? I love to hoard them lol, I feel like I'm throwing away future points when I sell a horse. Problem is, I can't afford a new barn for the new ones without selling some off. I show most everything I have every week so I'm gaining points steadily, just slowly. I know I need to cut down on my breeding, and spay a lot of mares (it's in the works) Maybe skip a breeding season?

I started playing HJ2 just after beta testing finished and had played HJ1 since 2006 so I was already quite familiar with the game, already had a strategy that worked for me and have been here since the beginning lol.
I tried to remember that breeding seasons were every month rather than every other as HJ1 but usually alternated breeding between the games. I’ve ended up skipping a ton of breeding seasons. I reason that I’d rather save my foals and skip a season now and have a bigger bonus down the road than quick profit now and still be struggling to afford things down the road.
I also made sure to make breeding seasons the cheapest I could and restricted myself from buying outside horses as much as I could (not saying never just until my show horses could afford a new barn by the time I finished filling the last one.) Now my show horses fund pretty much anything I want and if I can’t afford it yet I make sure everyone’s being shown so I can afford it quicker.
Also it doesn’t hurt that I have the patience of a saint when I set a goal and I used to have a strict budget written out in a spreadsheet of all my expenses in a year. Along with a chart showing me my income and IV savings and projected timeline until I could have enough to cover breeding and a list of other items to buy. Seeing the numbers lower helped me feel better about saving rather than spending.
Although I do sell off my creates that don’t pass requirements to become breeding stock and most of my RS because there aren’t any that really fit my goals without extensive GMT work. -
We really need more Grullo RS, Bandit! We’ve got plenty of other different colors but I can’t think of any Grullo (besides Nanotech, which was theoretically one time only). Next time Ammit asks for RS suggestions I will definitely suggest that!
-
Yes! I’d love a non appy Grullo RS! Roan and Appy are the only patterns I try to avoid like the plague just because I’m not a fan of them in real life but find that most of the available grullos outside my barn have at least 1 appy
-
@Bandit do you like grulla with splash?
-
@bestfriend yep. Splash tobiano rabicano are the base of a lot of my stock. Most have at least one of those patterns and then I mix and match other patterns on top. I love the splashy look of w3 and 8 added too.
-
@Bandit1119, thanks for that! It really helps me look at things a new way. I think I'll skip a season or two and save up to see where that lands me.
-
so, stupid question @Bandit1119 - how does skipping a season raise your daily hbs?
-
You don't spend money LOL, just let the daily bonus build up! Bit boring not playing though ;)
-
OH! I see lol I can see how that can help you save money. I know I took a break for a few months and I came back with like 1 mill (at the time I was happy when I got 30k. so, 1mill was huge)
-
I use the skipped months to sort through my breeding stock and snip any that don’t meet my requirements and also work through the back log of unnamed horses which means I still get to enjoy my pretty ponies and have game time but without needing to spend as much as I would if I’d been breeding.
Also all my horses in my barn will have got another month of training and show points down so my bonus will be higher. -
I find that skipping a month without bothering to breed at all is counterintuitive - I'd rather breed all my mares and auction off the foals for the profit (it costs 500 hbs to pasture breed them, and you earn 2500 per foal auctioning them). But of course that only works if you don't get swayed into keeping all the little buggers!
-
@RedDeeFarms my method is to auction anything I am not going to use for breeding and use the money to buy a young pointed create already earning 50+hbs a day rather than taking up the stall space with a foal that will take a real calendar year before it earns that much.Thanked by 1RedDeeFarms

Bought 89 horses in auction today. Raised my daily hbs by 2k. This is going to be a long, slow, process.

I only bought 400+ pointed creates every auction for a month and it grew very quicklyBREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

I just bought some 300pt and a lot of 3-4yr old 250+pt horses.
-
If you are not able to snag the 400-900 pointers then definitely run a search for ExPERFECT and exceptional show horses in auction and just pick up those that are YOUNG, pointed creates. My side account was still under 20k points when the format changed and I frequently trolled the HH lists for those so I could create and sell them for extra hbs than typical creates. People were paying a good amount for them at first. That's tapered off now since they're so readily available and you can get them for basically create price. Better to take up a stall space with something that's guaranteed to rack up points over it's lifetime (and already earning daily hbs unlike most foals).BREEDING DARKNESS (ok black liver but it sounds cooler)

@ SarahLove I do the same thing. For instance I just bought a 6 yr old. with an 11.4 PT. She only has 194 points right now. But I know it will be a good while before she levels off. So in the meantime she is going to continue to accumulate points and Hb's.
