Why was he gelded?
-
-
Did you put him through SBA or just BA?
-
He may be superior to sire but worse than his dam :)●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

Might be the dam or the inconsistency.

I did SBA.
Dam was red. He is B. What I understand is B would be like yellow. If Im right he better then dam.
If it is inconsistency, I had other colts pass with that on SBA...this where I was confused.
-
Somethin Happened snowfl
He paper high then both dam and sire but is inconsistency.
He also went though SBA. -
When looking at papers, a C for a stallion equals a yellow for a mare, a B stallion equals a red mare, an A stallion equals a blue mare, and a star stallion equals a gold mare. Now just because I get a red papered filly out of a B and Red Cross, does not mean that filly will pass SBA. There are different breeding abilities within those papers. That’s where BA and SBA helps weed out those that are not “good enough” to be a future breeder.
-
But see where he also tested Superior to Sire? He would have passed SBA whether he was inconsistent or not, because he is superior to his dad AND papered higher than his mom.
Edit to add: This refers to the second example posted :) -
Actually the paper equivalencies are:
Failed-Showable Only
Yellow-C
Red-B
Blue-A
*Gold-*Star
If his dam was red and he is a B, then there is a chance he is a slightly worse B than his mother is a red. Each paper level isn't a fixed number but rather a large grouping. Horses can be on the higher end or the lower end of a paper level, and thus both be "B"/"Red" papered but one is a worse breeder than the other. -
Fallen, SBA now compares the foal to both parents, not just the same gender. So he's probably worse than his dam. :)
-
Oh I meant the second example posted, where the horse passed SBA and was superior to sire, even though he was inconsistent. Sorry for the confusion
-
So the sire is a C papered, the dam is red, and the colt is B.
The papers go, from highest to lowest:
Star/Gold
A/Blue
B/Red
C/Yellow
This means that the colt papered better than the sire (where the StS testing comes in) but equal in papering to the dam.
Now, the trick is that "equal" papering actually has some variance. Behind the scenes, all horses have a percent breeding ability. For a perfect foundation, we know this number is 100%. A perfect foundation papers C/yellow. For an exceptionally perfect foundation, we know this number is 105%. They paper B/red. However, if you apply a 1% breeding boost to a PF, they retest as a B/red. That means 102% would be B/red, as would 104% - do you see how there's a range?
SPWM Coffee Time
(Silver Pocket Watches are a rank special, which means they are PF quality, normally C/yellow. He was given a 1% boost and is now a B. Some RS, like Better Brindle Breakout, are ExPerf quality, and therefore would paper B/red.)
So this is what people mean when they say a horse is a "high A" or a "low star" - it means that they have an idea of where the horse was in percentage, roughly.
So, to answer your question - Snowy Knight is a Freaky Friday - a PF RS. Khepri is a Nanotech - an ExPerf RS.
The colt was likely between 101-104% - good enough to test as a B, but less quality than the ExPerf 105% mare. BA and SBA compares against both parents. Therefore, the computer saw that the colt was lower quality than the dam, and snipped him.
Also, as Ammit pointed out, it might be the inconsistency instead, in which case it depends on just how badly inconsistent they are. Some inconsistent foals will pass, others won't, and again that's the computer reading the numbers behind the scenes.
And while I don't normally guarantee straws, I hope an extra couple will help you get the colt you want, so check your inbox. :xISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.Thanked by 1BlackWyld -
@Lallyhop Thank you for taking the time to go though this. I didn't know it went like this. Now I know will better pick my pearings!
