  • Just reeeeeaaaaaally push that you want a house turkey. After a few weeks, a duck won't look so bad ;)

  • He says to much of a mess to keep inside. I say where there is a will there is a way
  • Ducks are disgusting. We kept ours freerange on the farm and they were so filthy that we finally gave up. One of the filthiest animals I have ever raised to be honest.
  • Oooh! Maybe a ducky diaper?
  • Haha my boyfriend wanted a duck but we live in town and can’t have them. But I would totally let him have one just not inside because they are messy.

I wanted 5 cats....he did not....I got them. He now likes the cats :)
I wanted 3 Great Danes.....he did not....I got them anyways :) We recently lost one and he said no more.....I plan to get another :)

  • This isn't looking good :))
  • What you need is a house pig!
  • Oh! A mini pig! maybe he'll go for that!
  • I'm all for the house turkey idea!

  • Lol turkeys may be pretty gangly, but they are actually pretty docile. I love when we get the babies in at work. All they want to do is cuddle! I have a client with a full-size domestic white house turkey and it actually works out pretty well for them. I have no idea how they handle the mess issue, but it apparently likes to cuddle with the kitten.

Most birds are pretty messy to begin with, but ducks are incredibly messy. I've had ducks before and can handle most of their messes no problem, but the idea of a duck in a diaper... :-&

However, I also have a client with a house duck. She carries it around in a purse and it gets upset when she goes out and about without it . I don't think she uses a diaper, I think it lives in a playpen in the house with a puppy pad. It does sleep in the bed with its owner at night, but somehow manages to hold it until it goes outside in the morning for a potty break. She's a pretty singular duck, I've never heard of a duck holding it that long before.

  • Fyi theres really no such thing as a "mini pig" or "tea cup pig" these breeders are disgusting. Advise you to basically starve the piglets. When you buy them they are malnourished and underfed. 90% of them grow into full 600 pound plus pigs. If you're lucky you get a potbelly. Which is about as mini as you're going to get unless you buy a Kunekune, which are absolutely adorable! (Seriously YouTube them) I'm not saying don't pigs make amazing pets, are super smart, and loyal. But please just know what you're getting into and be prepared to either starve the pig or get a full grown pig. Too many end up in shelters because people buy them expecting the to stay 60 - pounds. I come from a (mostly pig) farming family. It breaks my heart to see these animals suffer. :((
  • We have KuneKune, and they have always stayed outside. Until last week when one of the sows went beserk on her litter and we took them away. Everyone went to a new home, except Boaris. My husband says he has got to go soon because the kids will get to attached (he says this in between baby talking the pig and scratching his back).

  • He's so cute! I think they are so adorable. I love pigs. All pigs. And I feel the need to help raise awareness for these animals because people are money hungry and will claim anything they can to get money.
  • I can second (third?) the ducks being very messy - but if you're willing to put in the extra effort of cleaning up, it can work! Just be prepared for a lot of paper towels and hand-picking up poo when it happens.

You might also look at button quail if you want something cute. Or quail in general. Smaller poops, no compulsion to bathe and splash water everywhere, less food consumed, just as cute and cuddly. :P
ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
  • Lol I misread the title as “My Hubby Won't Let Me Have a House Hippo!”

I’m sure there are some fellow Canadians who grew up with the house hippo commercials lol they’d be much cleaner than ducks.

  • I always wanted a house hippo!!!

I think Xceptional needs a house llama!
They can be house trained, they can double as a chic furniature piece and whenever the hubby gets out of line you will not find a better critter at giving the most disaproving stink eye.

Breeding for all version of black drafts. (Including black liver)
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I work a 7day on 7day off schedule and my activity here will reflect that.
I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.
  • Hubby has always wanted an Alpaca
  • I have a part time house duck. He is a handicapped chocolate Call duck (miniature duck). He comes in and out when the back door is open and actually does pretty good about not making messes inside. He'll come in to nap or to see what we're doing. But he stays outside most of the time because his buddy (a handicapped Cayuga duck) doesn't come in, and he likes to hand out with him.

I can post a picture on the FB group.

  • I would love to see him!
  • @Xceptional I just posted a picture of both of them on FB.
    #28036
  • They are so sweet!
  • @RipshinCreekFarm My son and his wife just got a Guinea Hog from her dad. They named him Kevin McBacon. And he will be their pet only.
  • @Xceptional I love it! Our breeding stock has punny names like Makin Bacon
