Chinchilla breeding? Help
  • I have bred my chinchilla stallion 37 times now and not 1 of his offspring carry the gene. I have looked at his line and can't find which gene is even chinchilla. Am I just missing something about this gene.
  • Chinchilla is a recessive gene so the horse has to be Hom chinchilla to present I believe so they all carry it they are just Het for it, it is also as far as I know so far a hidden gene and won't display in the genetics but will display in the color name.
God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.

  • I think Ammit said that it isn't going to be a hidden gene she just hasn't gotten around to adding it to the visible gene code so for now if it shows in the color name the horse has Chinchilla (you just might not know if it's het or hom depending on the parents' genes).

  • Ok cause I tried to bid in auction on a foal with my other account and it said I couldn't because it carried a closed gene but it didn't show anything anywhere.
  • If your foundation stallion is homozygous for chinchilla, you may want to make a tattoo for the gene, especially to put on all those heterozygous 2nd gens. Some players put a code for special genes in the horse's name, especially for genes that need to be homozygous to show.

  • How do I make a tattoo? I paid someone to make the ones I have
  • I'd be happy to make one for you.

  • SOme people also use various backgrounds and/or tack to identify different lines, though you can't use the search to find them.
