Rest In Peace my babies.....
-
About a month ago my neighbor had gotten bantam chicken eggs and he had to leave for a vacation right as they were going to hatch so we got the eggs while he was gone and hatched them all. There was one disabled chicken that couldn’t really walk right and there was another tiny black one. The disabled one died and I got to pick out a couple more to keep the black one company. Then we got a really nice coop for them and put them in there and got two more which made 5 baby chickens. Well the past three nights something has been getting into the neighbors chickens and killing off all the hens and this morning my mother came up to wake me up and told me that something got into my 4 week old chickens and killed them all... :(( I loved them all so very much and I will miss them so much...EasternShowBarn

Predator proofing hen coops is tough. Sorry for your loss

Thank you everyone... we happened to save another disabled chick from the neighbors and she’s not walking and is shaky. We’re going to pray she makes it through the night and get her some meds and supplements and vitamins tomorrow and hope she gets better. We got the rabbit locked in the lower coop part and the chick locked in the upper part inside the lower part in hopes that if the attackers get back in they wont go for the rabbit or the chickens. I’ll update everyone as to whether or not she makes it.EasternShowBarn

She made it through the night! Now she’s got another chick glued to her side and won’t leave her. I have to pick her up to get her to drink and eat but she is eating and drinking well. The other chick keeps her from flipping over and falling to deep into sleep and shaking which is literally a real life saver :xEasternShowBarn

Glad she made it through the night, and sorry about your other chick-chicks. Keeping chickens safe from predators can be a tough job.

Thanks again! We got her some medication and supplements and I will check on her periodically throughout the day.EasternShowBarn

Nice I am glad she made it through the night.
-
Aww I'm so glad she made it, when have I weak ones like that a little sugar water sometimes helps boost their energy , mostly make sure they stay warm, the cold is what really kills baby chicks.

Orange gatorade cut in a one-to-one ratio with water works amazingly as an electrolyte source. It's what I use whenever I get a stray/injured animal dumped on me, lol. You can also try a little teeny bit of yogurt (go for the unflavored plain stuff, as natural and as few ingredients as you can get, with lots of probiotics) for after you're done with the medication, especially if anything you're giving her is antibiotic. The yogurt helps in getting their system back in check with beneficial bacteria.
That's so awesome the other chick is hanging out with her. That extra companionship can make a huge difference. :xISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches!

She’s still alive and thriving just can’t walk still. She drank a bunch today, more than she really ever has in one time which could mean she likes the vinegar we put in the water! She’s making tiny steps towards getting better, she’s pushing herself to sit up and when I hold her to feed her she puts weight onto her legs and feet and stretches out her wings.EasternShowBarn

was there any tracks you could Identify the predator by? Raccoons are the hardest to keep out and fox are fairly easy with some modification to the coop same goes for other predators as well. I have tons of small animal eating critters where I live. Sorry about the loss of your first batch but I'm rooting for the new little guys.

@BuchananShow me too! Thank you.
@Amour33 We’ve all had problems with raccoons around here and coons typically are the kind that kill for fun so there were no feathers and a knocked post... Our neighbor lost two large adult chickens in less than 24 hours. We ended up catching one HUGE male raccoon up thereEasternShowBarn

We lost her this morning... And of course today was the day of my sisters graduation party and I’m a mess because of both events... My family made sure that I knew that I did everything I could do for her and gave her love and gave her another chance at life.EasternShowBarn

So the raccoons got all but ONE chick from my neighbors and I took it home cause I couldn’t just leave it there and when I got there I saw him and he was black..! The first chicken I had was a black rooster chick which was the entire reason that I have these chickens now and my sick chicken was a black hen... I held the chicken in my arms while I walked home from the neighbors crying really hard once I realized the odds of one chicken surviving a coon attack (note there was only 14 in a there and only maybe 3 were black) and it being black after the rough week I’ve had with the other chickens. I brought him home and he seems healthy and he settled in fine with the other four and should (hopefully) live a long happy life :xEasternShowBarn
