Building up daily bonus?
  • I've been playing H+J for a little while now, and only recently began building up a show herd. It seems impossible to budge my daily bonus at all! It crawls so slowly up. I know if I bought more pointed horses it would go faster but... some people here have 50+ thousand hbs daily bonus, and I can only dream of that. I can't even imagine making 2k. (Currently 1,790)

How do you even start? What's a good strategy for building up? My first concern is the space. I have the main barn of 80 stalls and one of 60, which is probably not nearly enough. And I have the basic upgrade but one IV a week from that money isn't enough either to get big barns.

I'm looking for advice I suppose. Desperately. XD Just save better? Buy more pointed horses? Any advice would be appreciated.
  • The very general rule is 3 show horses for every breeding horse.

There are several nice young horses for sale at the create price that have 200+ points. (http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2118363, http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=1906488, http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=2398158)

Fill up your show barn with these kind of horses. Don't even THINK about color or body type! ONLY look at age, points and price....PT helps too, but the horses aren't always tested.

As you find cheap horses with higher points put one or two of those guys in the auction; cycle out the lower points for horses with higher points.

Haunt the auction, do a search for horses that are Spayed/Gelded, under 14 years old, and sort them by total points. About a half hour before the auction ends, bid on any of those that don't already have bids on them. You will probably win them for 2600 each.

  • While you're under the 20k total points cap (or can get back under it easily), I would do two things. The first is snip or sell any intact horse you don't absolutely have to have. If it's replaceable, replace it later.
Secondly, make pointed ExShow horses - scour the herd helper section of the forum and click on any and all ExShow herd helpers. Make them yearlings, and sell any under 300 points for about 3 or 4k. Repeat until your barns are full of 300+ point yearling ExShows and your bank is full of profit from the rest. You may even make enough money off that to buy a year basic upgrade with IVs, or at the very least a new barn. :D

  • Looking at your show barn: Put all those 2 year old spay/gelds with under 100 points in the auction. You will get 2500 for them, minimum. Buy the same number of horses from the public sales but get ones with a 200+ points.

  • @ConfluenceFarms @Lallyhop

Thank you both for answering! I'll put those 2 year olds into the auction and keep a lookout for 200+ pointers. And cycle out my lower pointers for higher! I didn't think of that, just been keeping any I have with any points.

Thank you for the horses Confluence! I just picked them up.

I'm not looking forward to spay/gelding some out of my other barn, but when I restarted my game recently, I had told myself I wouldn't breed any until I built up a good show herd. Then I broke that rule a bunch over. So I had this coming.

No, sorry- I had to step away for a second between buying them!
  • No worries, just wanted to be sure I got him posted right! :)

  • Wolf, you also need to free test your foals and auction any that don't pass BA. That will clear up some room for more show ponies. And use the free tests on all your stallions, as well, especially those 3 year olds with 300+ points. They are still young enough that they will get a NICE training bonus once you geld them. As a matter of fact, it doesn't look like you are testing much at all! If the horse doesn't pass Breeding Advice, you do NOT want it to make babies. The most basic goal is to improve your herd. Using sub-par horses for breeding (which is what the ones that do not pass Breeding Advice are....sub-par!) only keeps you at the same level or makes you go backwards!

If you are looking for some liver sport ponies for breeding I can dig through my herd and see what I have. There are probably one or two good ones hiding out in there!

Here's one I would sell you for 2500 after the auction on Sunday, if you want. As a bonus she carries satin!: http://hj2.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=1920358

  • @ConfluenceFarms

Yeah... I fell into the trap of "well I want all the pretty ponies, and I'm afraid they'll get geld/spayed, so I just won't test any" and, well. I realize that isn't how I'll achieve anything in this game. Or get a base built to allow me to achieve anything moving forward.

I'll go test them all now, and throw any foals that don't pass into the auction. The stallions with 300+ I'll keep (after testing), as well as any other higher-end 200s out of my mares.

Liver sport ponies is my goal, though I've just been working from some probably mixed level horses, as I just haven't put much thought or research into the papering side of things.

Oh that mare is lovely! I would love to buy her if possible.
  • If it's alright, I'll wait until Sunday.

I'll check the stallions out. Thank you!
  • One thing i do on my other accounts (paradisepark HJ1 a nd PP warmbloods HJ2) is create mares with HH for the colors I breed for.
On HJ1 i have alot of dark chesnut, sooty pal,etc mares with points.
On HJ2 I have champagne mares with points.
Any snipped horses have to have a minimum of 300 points as well.

Its the best of both worlds. You get a good show bonus and get to breed.
I will eventually sell off the lower pointed mares and replace them with higher point mares :)

  • @ParadisePark

That sounds like a good way to do it! Is 300 a good minimum to have do you think? The line worth keeping them at?

And by using HHs for those mares, and following that, you end up with (if they pass BA) a good amount of points for a breeding horse, and if they don't, a well-pointed and bonused show horse?

Would replacing all my <300 pointed horses now be best, rather than later, since my bonus is still so low?
  • I've had good luck with Exceptional Show horses even under 300 points. Once they turn two they earn points quickly enough to catch up if they're a little shy of whatever cut off mark you choose. :)

  • I did start with 200 put pushed it up to 300 :)

If you know exactly what you want to breed for it would be a good idea to sell the lower horses off. While Spayed Mares and Gelding are ment to show better the mares do fine as well!

Plus more barn space why have 20 mares with no points and 20 show horses when you can have both :D

  • I'm off to bed....Send me a PM Wolf, if you have any other questions I can help with. I breed for livers only, but most of mine are warmbloods (although a short warmblood can make pony babies!)
    image
  • @JustaSaddletramp @ParadisePark

That's good news! Well I'll go between maybe. For the horses I already have, I'll say 250 points will probably be my minimum, for breeding or showing horses (preferably both, now I know that that would work!) and as I start creating ExShows, I'll make THEIR requirement 300 or they're off to auction. :)

    @ConfluenceFarms

Okay! Thank you so much for your help. I'll PM you if I have questions. I just want to breed livers, haha, the size really doesn't matter to me. I just want the color and dapples! So once I get the hang of setting up my show horses properly, I'll start looking into getting better foundations or beginning breeders for livers.
  • Most welcome :)

  • Also remember the players bringing in large show bonuses for the most part have been here for a long time and have built up their show herd over possibly real life years. You’ll get there eventually. But this game is a huge lesson in patience.

The last time I looked at my daily bonus I think I either just broke 80 or 90k a day but I breed 400 odd horses a month and only keep about 40 intact after I finish all my testing and personal standard snipping. (I keep all my horses so there’s usually around 400 new show horses going into my show barns a month)

On my secondary account I started up the end of January I was just under 2k a day in bonus after the first 2 months but then the 20k pointed creates cake out and I tripled my income creating show yearlings and selling them.

Since I preferred to love them quickly rather than expensively I added 500hbs per 100 points.

    100-199points = 3000hbs
    200-299points = 3500hbs
    300-399 points = 4000hbs

I bought the biggest barns I could afford so I have 2 - 30 stall barns and the 15 stall welcome barn. I have my horses sorted by points with the highest points farthest from the primary barn and the lowest pointed horses in the primary barn. During the reach for the stars contest I would auction all the horses in my primary barn and every auction I could I went through the lists sorted by total points under 16years old and put the minimum bid on every horse that didn’t have a bid on until I ran out of money to bid. Later in the day if I could I would go back through the list starting where I ended off at and continue working down the list bidding on any without bids until I ran out of money to bid. For the older horses I’d check to see if they’d been shown recently and if their owner was upgraded (therefore the horse has been regularly trained) if the horse had been shown recently I’d like to see an improvement in show scores since their last show (especially if it was months before) but I took a chance on a few low pointed horses that had been sitting around without being shown and within a few weeks they’d gained enough points to fit in with my keepers.

Once the auction ran I’d resort my horses so that the new auction finds were in the appropriate barns and my primary barn back to being the low pointed send to the next auction horses. I didn’t have a firm cut off point but by continuing to cut the bottom and putt higher points in my extra barns my cut off point has raised through the weeks. The last few weeks I haven’t really spent much time cultivating that account to it isn’t growing as fast as it was
  • I now have only 16 breeding mares to my almost 200+ show Ponies and am trying to save money and make space by selling anything lower than 150 points if I know I can buy back ones with 200+ points at the auction or public sales. I have some with points up for 4500 HBs on the public sales list ;)

Your stable name starts their own names, so you'll know which ones are for you.

They're all showing at the top of Level 7W. Don't worry if they eventually bump up into 8 Local. They may not add many more points, but they will still be bringing in a decent showing bonus.

  • Show horses going from World to Local really messed me up at first, wondering why all my best two year olds suddenly dropped back to local. Took me weeks of watching to be sure my babies didn't just get to world level and then tank. lol I was thinking they go through the local levels, then step up to regional, then national, then world... Instead they go through level one in each division, then move up to level two and run through the divisions again. :))

  • Yes, the horses have to work their way up from In-Hand, to Green under Saddle, to Green Over Fences, and so on. Every new level means an advance in training and skills.
