Hi Everyone :-h

I talked with Cheers after her first Barn Giveaway Contest. And decided to have a Second Round Barn Giveaway Contest. Mine will be a little different, since I thought a medium size show barn would be nice for TWO players. :D
So, I will be giving away a 90 stall barn for two lucky players, at Game Time Rollover next Monday May 30th.
The names will be drawn from a hat by my husband, just to make it fair, since his passion is old, old cars, not horses.

The same request applies for this contest that did for Cheers Contest please. It is for players that want to build their show herds, not to build up your breeding herds. If a couple of intact horses get in the barn it is understandable. I would like you to use this to begin, or further your show herd, and your show bonus!

Salvister how do you do it? You have a huge number of points for a small number of horses. I have 1000 horses and my show bonus is only 40k.
I am so tempted to enter but I also was just graciously donated a 60 stall barn. A 90 is so tempting. Lol but I will see how many enter. Don't want to be greedy. Lol but wouod love to hear Salvister strategy. Do you have all show horses?

@hiddenvfarm - if you do a search of Salvistars horses, and sort it by All time Points, you can see that the first 30, or so, horses have over 500 points! You don't even get to the under 100 point horses until number 110! Many of them are older, spayed and gelded horses.

(I am a search fiend! I use the search for all kinds of stuff like this, and reccommend it to the new folks to 1. help them see this kind of stuff, and 2. get comfortable using the search.)

@hiddenvfarm, Confluence is right. I have a really high ratio of older high point earners in my barns. I don't have tons of space, so I have evolved a few strategies to maximize points per stall being used in my herd.

Strategy 1: Show EVERY horse. Every single horse in my barn is shown twice a week except the foals. No exceptions.

Strategy 2: I spread out my horses to show throughout the week. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I hope that it helps so they compete against each other less.
I also limit the number of my own horses entered together into a show, for the same reason. To keep it easy to remember I only allow 2 of my horses to compete together in level 2 shows, 3 horses together in level 3 shows, 4 horses together in level 4 shows etc. I usually hand enter a batch of horses and then check the show entries page and scratch a bunch of horses from shows that are too full with my own horses.

Strategy 3: Since I have limited space I try to select for breeding stock that shows well and produces well. They have to do double duty! I know a lot of players can afford to keep low PT breeders, but I try to avoid it.

Strategy 4: Part of why I have so many older show horses is just because I have been playing long enough to have old show ponies that started out as little babies in my barn. The other reason is because I very strictly cull my showing stock. Players with lots of room will keep as many showing babies as they can, but I don't. So around the middle of their 3 year old year I look at all of my three year old spays and geldings and keep only the top 3 all time point earners, and everyone else gets auctioned or sold. That way I am keeping only the cream of the crop that will go on to earn lots of points throughout a long life with me. This results in mainly awesome showers in my barn instead of a mixture of awesome and just OK showers. I also like that it will keep my barn balanced with equal amounts of young and old so that I can keep a steady income even as my older horses pass away. Eventually as I get more room I would like to increase to being able to keep the Top 5 or Top 10 point earners of each showing crop. I know that a lot of good showers slip away from me since I am only keeping 3 out of 30 or more showing foals each year...
