I love black based horses. But I am trying to figure out the dominance of the agouti alleles: A, A+, At, and a. Will AAt look the same as AA or AA+? His about At VS A+?

a is Black
A is Bay
At is Brown which has dominance over A
A+ is Wild bay which has dominance over A and At

So if you want guaranteed black horses you would breed EE aa studs to EE aa or Ee as mares :)

Actually the heirarchy goes:
Wild bay (A+)
Bay (A)
Brown (At)
Black (a)

But yes, when you’re breeding for a particular one you just want to make sure there’s none of a more dominant gene in your lines - so for black, you have to breed aa, while for bay, you can breed any A combo (Aa, AAt, AA) as long as you don’t have A+, and for wild bay as long as you have a copy of A+ you’re golden.

Thanks much! Just to be difficult, I have decided to have 2 lines, At and A+. I'll try not to mix them, but understanding which is dominant.

As for how the horse's look:

A+ / (A+, A, At or a) = wild bay, all combinations look the same
A / (A, At or a) = regular bay, all combinations look the same
At / At = bay/brown - looks like & labeled bay if no darkening genes, looks like & labeled brown if darkening genes
At / a = brown
a / a = black
