GMT Gender Question
-
I have this very, very lovely filly. Probably my favourite horse I’ve ever bred. She is evenly bred, consistent, blue papered Hom snowflake with W10 as well! Basically perfect for my breeding. My only issue is I wish she was a colt haha. My question is, if I can save up to be able to buy the 2 GMT needed for a gender change to make her a Colt will he have to be put back through breeding advice and if so, is there any chance he could be gelded if I do that?
I have nearly saved up enough for one GMT token, saving for a second is going to be a huge effort and I’m reluctant to do that only to have all that wasted if she becomes a he only to get gelded! I’m sadly not someone who can afford to spend real money to buy GMT’s (student putting myself through uni haha) so saving up hb’s is my only option but I def don’t want to waste it! Thank you in advance and I apologise if this question has been asked before and I failed to see it :)

If I remember right, the only thing I've ever had to retest on horses that I've swapped genders with has been papering. If she passed BA as a filly, she should pass BA as a colt!Thanked by 1SilverAleki

@Waldgraf thank you for that! :)
-
She’s lovely! Congratulations : ) I think she would be a wonderful stallion, too. My experience has been the same as Waldgraf with passing horses still passing BA after a gender change, so you should be fine!
I am considering turning two of my snowflake colts into fillies, because they already have a nice half-brother, but I don’t have any snowflake mares from their dam. In my experience, when needed I can find outside snowflake stallions, but it is much harder/more expensive to find snowflake mares for sale.Thanked by 1SilverAleki -
She is beautiful - well worth those 2 tokens to make a stallion - I would to :XThanked by 1SilverAleki

I’m pretty sure breeding advice now tests the foal against both parents.
Before it would only test against the same gender parent then when you switched you’d have to test against the other parent. -
@Riata Thank you very much for your input ^^
I contemplated leaving this one as a filly for just that reason since it’s hard to find snowflake girls, especially Hom ones, but I know I’d get much more use from her as a Colt and I have a 3G Snowflake boy whose given me a few daughters that will hopeful go nicely with this one one he’s a she Haha. Goo luck with your breeding! I hope your two boys make lovely fillies ^^
@Dinascar thank you! My only job now is saving up enough hbs haha I’ve got just enough for one gmt so far, slowly working on the other :D
@Bandit1119 thank you for that! I suspected that was the case but I wasn’t totally sure myself. Hopefully based on this gender change shouldn’t be a problem ^^
Thank you all so much for your help :x -
All testing will remain intact after a gender change except Breeding Inspection/Papering. You will not have the chance to run him/her through BA/SBA again. You will have to paper him/her again, so that’s an extra 1000hbs, but a minor investment in th full scheme of things. As far as I’m aware, they will retain the same “level” of Papering as they did in their previous gender (so this Blue filly will be an A Colt).
Obviously, you will now also have the opportunity to Compare him if you so choose. This is the one major reason I rarely switch fillies into colts, as I require my colts to compare to extremely high standards. If you’re okay with the new colt possibly only comparing AGA his sire, the it’s a worthwhile investment for the W10 alone in my book... if you want him to compare to a higher standard, you might give it another season or two (saving up in the process of course) and see if you can get a similar colt that meets your standards. -
@Cheers
Thank you very much for your explanation, it was very helpful. Based on the genes she is carrying and the worth they would have to me for my breeding (w10 is my favourite haha and she is from my Millionaire line, my favourite stud) I would be very much ok if he papered AGA his sire in this case, thank you for mentioning this consideration though! :DThanked by 1Cheers -
@Waldgraf, @Riata, @Dinascar, @Bandit1119, @Cheers
Just letting you all know I finally, finally, managed to save up enough to buy the 2 GMT's needed to make the gender change! I can confirm that the only testing that needed to be re-done was the breeding inspection (nothing else) and that my Blue papered filly became an A papered colt. He is my very favourite horse I've ever bred and im really glad I made the change.
Thank you all for your help and since each of you took the time to help me out if any of you would ever like a straw or two from him at pull cost (500hbs) feel free to let me know and I will send you each two out next breeding season when he turns 3 :D
Here he is now!

He is one good looking boy and man doesn’t that new background make him pop! I’d love some straws and would also offer you straws from my Meteoric line should you ever want them. I have a gen 4 Star colt from that line but he’s nowhere near as flashy as your guy.Thanked by 1SilverAleki

He is super cute.
I’m just glad I could help I don’t need any straws but thank you for the offer!
I can’t wait until I go to my moms tomorrow and can dress up some of my herd with the new backgrounds. It’s been hard restraining but it’s best not to run through all my data at the beginning of the cycle lol -
@Cheers thank you!
@ParadisePark will do! :D
