Is it considered rude to remove a tattoo from a horse you've just bought? How would you feel?
-
If it's one of my color signifier tattoos, take it off! I will also sometimes remove other people's generational tattoos.
If it's a "bred by" tattoo I personally would prefer that it be left--I'm proud of my breeding stock. That said, in my personal opinion, it's not a major issue. However, taking off my Ausmerican Bred tattoo and putting on YOUR in house tattoo would make me pretty upset....
Remember that at least part of the purpose of tattoos is that they are searchable. So, I can go to the horse search, put in my player ID and add one of my tattoos and find every horse I own with the Ausmerican Satin tattoo, for instance. Similarly, if I wanted to check up on the boys I've recently sold, I could check for stallions with the Ausmerican bred tattoo....I only recently started tattooing everyone, so this would only give me younger boys, but I could use it to keep track in the future.
Others may have other opinions...that's just my personal take. And like I said, sometime it happens! I know Rose Flute has one of my boys where she put her tattoo over the top of mine accidentally. It actually looks kind of cool! -
I don't worry about tattoos for color or generation, but I try to always leave "Bred by" tattoos. I think of it as a sign of respect to the breeder and I also like the variety. Once or twice I've taken them off by accident.
If I sell a horse with a "Bred by" tattoo, I would hope for the buyer to keep it. -
From a design standpoint they where never created to be used as a "bred by" mark. That is why we have a field that literately says bred by. I think once you sell a horse you lose any right to care what tats it has. If you did not care enough to keep a horse in your herd, you should not be bothered about what happens to it. Now a very special private sale might be one thing but let's face it we are really talking about sales board horses here.

I always keep bred by tattoos. I'm in no way a major breeder on hj but I always feel so proud seeing bred by tattoos on horses that I bought from someone else's stocks plus if I forget the name of a breeder but I have one of their animals I can always go to the horse page and look them up :]----

I like Ammit's point that a horse's page will always show who the breeder was, so it's not like someone can or is taking credit for breeding the animal.
Personally I think if you sell a horse or put a horse up for public breeding you can't have expectations for what will happen with that horse or the babies of your public breeders. I don't worry about it, and I wouldn't care about people removing tattoos or changing names or anything of that nature. A pixel pony is not important enough to me to ruffle my feathers.SALVISTAR PERFORMANCE HORSES

Yep it's impossible to forget who the breeder is. Just like real life that info always goes with the horse's records.

I'm with Cheers and Kaquel.

*Whew* I agree. Sometimes if there are a bunch of tats in one pic I think it gets too busy. I agree; taking off the others and leaving the bred by works. I'm kind of proud of my tiny pics!

My biggest concern is people deciding they have a right to be snippy, or upset with other members because a tattoo was removed. I think that way crosses the line and is much worse etiquette. That really bothers me.

I will go so far as to say telling another player off about removing tats officially counts as harassing other players. And if someone is a enough of a jerk about it, it can get them banned from the game. Some people get way to worked up about things that truly do not matter and a tat being removed is one of those things that truly does not mater.
