Reminder: Breeding Rules are not allowed
-
If you plan to stand your horses publicly you can not include any rules about who may breed to them or what they can do with the foals.
Thanks for helping us prevent icky drama!

Are we allowed to make requests/rules with straws/eggs or private breedings? Just for future reference
-
Awesome thank you for the information!
-
Fallen, I strongly prefer if you are going to advertise straws/eggs on the forum you also not have rules. And you are going to have rules to keep things truly private. But I am not going to stop you are or say anything about it. Just one of those where I it can be an issue.
But if you post it on the public list for anyone to breed to there are no rules allowed. It has caused way to many issues in the past.

Ok, thanks Ammit! I can completely understand where it can become problematic.
-
I understand having certain rules for guaranteed straws like even breeding, but I see a lot that have so many rules that it's sometimes a turn off for those particular studs. Sometimes I find a mare or stud with genes I'd love to add to my bootstrap line that the stud or brood fee is 25000+ with 10+ rules and I just move on because to me it's not worth any potential drama if I dont follow those rules.
-
I agree, @Amgr1992, and thank you, Ammit!
I avoid studs with too many rules on them even if I love their looks and genetics. Knowing me I'd use a mare whose pedigree I didn't check back to the nth generation thoroughly enough and be the one who broke the rules and made someone mad. I wouldn't ever do it on purpose, but I know exactly what kind of luck I have. :\">
Sometimes it's really difficult for new people, especially. They don't really even know what some of the rules mean. I've bought a few "even" horses in a hurry because they were priced nice and I didn't want someone else to buy first only to find out later when I was looking at pedigrees more closely that it's only even for a certain number of generations. I've even got one whose visible pedigree looks fine, but if you click the tail mare, you find out she's got a 3 in her name but is actually foundation. lol
Another reason the rules some people have are rough is simply that different people consider different things 'even'. I've been told by people that if a horse is evenly bred for four generations it's even, but others have told me it's only even if the papers and generations match up back to foundations. Of course, then there are the even ones whose papers aren't progressing, or are regressing, or who were matched for generation and not papers, or papers and not generation, or, or, or... I'll just use another stud! :DJusta ~ ID# 44842

Thanks, Ammit! I agree some of the rules went overboard and dissuaded me from breeding with certain horses.Id #: 43017

If you discover a stallion that is standing public, and has rules, please let me, or Ammit know. That doesn't count for chat rooms.Thanked by 1JustaSaddletramp

What about the studs with rules in their owner's notes? Is that okay?Justa ~ ID# 44842

I have rules on my stud. Only just to breed to foundation and to run foals through testing. In saying that I also note that once straws are purchased they are the buyers to do as they pleased but just failing to follow will result in my stud not being offered to the public.
So in other words I have requests but also point out I can’t enforce this. I hope that’s ok?Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.

That's what I was asking about, Crystal93. I know a lot of people with similar requests on their stallions, so I figure it needs to be stated clearly here for precedence. :)Justa ~ ID# 44842

I don't put anything up for public, but there is a few up for stud in colour chats, and yes my rules state that foals are to go through all testing, and for lower gen horses I often also ask that they are bred to gen2, or foundation etc. But it's the put foals through all testing one that matters, if you find that too hard @Amgr1992 then I'm glad you passed on my stallions LOL! I don't need to share my stallions, I don't make money out of it, I do it because there are some great people out there there that I'm happy to share with! Most breeders don't mind sharing as long as a bit of thought is put into what is being bred, and trying at least to somewhat improve quality
-
Justa, as long as the horse is not up for public brood, the owner can put whatever (tastefully PG-13) notes they want on their horses page. The minute they make that horse available to the public, though, the rules have to come down. (Except in Private Buddy Chats)
Just like with sales, you can't say who can or can't buy a horse.

Thanks, ConfluenceFarms. :) Now when it happens people can find a definite answer on the forum.Justa ~ ID# 44842

I'll make myself a note to put it in the FAQ, too!
-
@kintara if you've only put yours up through chats, then that's not the problem. I find signaling people out as extremely rude but I can guarentee that they weren't yours. I dont see the rules in chats that bad usually anyway. Which by the way with someone that's been with the game for so long you can, hopefully, expect quality studs. Ove actually seen some of your studs and haven't seen a problem. Actually planned on waiting for even bred mares of the same level to put to some of your chat room studs. To me you came across a little rude, seems like a bit of a personal attack honestly. Which sucks coming from an older member. I was specifically commenting on the public standing studs, not private. Which is why I take it like that.
-
I always figure if it’s going to bug you that much that there could be untested lower quality foals from your horses floating around then you might as well not put up your horses for stud or sale.
-
I always put goals through ba from outside horses out of respect, unless its through the bootstrap group or my own. I was actually using a horse I bought that had like 12 rules in her owners notes, which i removed because I'm happy with just ba if that's all you can at the moment. I just dont like being called out about something that is completely different ie: private breedings on a page about public breedings. Sucks because I actually really wanted to use a mare I bought awhile back on kintaras pearl stud but now I really feel like it's just best to leave it be and breed her elsewhere....it is what it is and I dont want to argue about it. Does it suck because I found the perfect gen3 to use with him? Yes. Does life move on? Yes. I will be on my way now. Goodnight everyone :)
-
I thought your comments were a little rude @Amgr1992, as it seemed directed at anyone with breeding rules, so sorry I singled you out, yours was just the first comment I read. I think most breeders, certainly myself are usually more than happy to have horses used for bootstrapping etc if asked, even if it's outside the rules stated. Bought genes are now largely protected with the licencing and no public sales anyway which helps. I'm not complaining about the no rules on public horses, that's fair, but a few people were commenting on rules existing at all which is all I was referring to. And @Bandit1119 I don't often share on HJ2, completely stopped for quite some time after some pretty bad experiences, but there is a good group here now and I'd like to share with them if they are interested, the rules I put in are to just try and limit the escalation of previous problems
-
Just read your last comment, it's up to you whether you want to use any of the stallions I've put up, not many people like the cobs anyway LOL! Everyone has been really good with any horses I've had up, which has given me confidence to share more of them
-
@kintara I wasnt complaining about rules like even breeding or testing, those are respect points of they are asked for, but I bought a mare that had 12 (!) rules. Like I just completely went through the breeding if the mare I wanted to breed to your stud in the pearl chat yo make sure she was acompletely evenly bred gen3. Like I feel like 12 is too much. That's why I took it the way I did. I try to respect rules, as to not start issues. And I think cobs are adorable I just dont have any!
-
All good @Amgr1992, sorry I had a go at you
-
Most players have rules with straws hence why I put them as well.
For most its seems to be pretty basic:
Breed even generation and papers. (2G red to a 2G B ,etc)
Put foals through testing.
Snip any that are not of the best quality.
My studs have rules for straws. But I wouldn't say they are strict rules, more of a guidelines to help keep the quality and intact rate higher.
If someone's buys a straws and breeds unevenly the most I can do is ask for them to snip the foal or no longer sell straws to that person. There is no need to cause drama over it.
I used to include in the rules a colt must paper higher than sire but in some cases its not possible. So i have made it so they can't paper worse than sire.●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

I just have to say I love this place. Anywhere else, the thread could have turned into a nasty fight. Here, everyone explained their view and made peace. :)Justa ~ ID# 44842

@JustaSaddletramp No. If a horse is public no rules allowed in the notes.
@Crystal93 I would prefer if you stand a horse for public you not even put such "requests." But it would be the trying to enforce them (which you are not doing) that would actually be a problem.
I think those requests are a slippery slope and also plain not needed. The kind of person not testing is also the kind of person not reading notes. They game is also very in your face about testing and if they are going to breed uneven it already punishes you by altering most of the foals. You just don't need them.I always figure if it’s going to bug you that much that there could be untested lower quality foals from your horses floating around then you might as well not put up your horses for stud or sale.
This. This is why the no rules rule was put in place. The kind of person who cares that much is also the kind of person who is going to start drama. What is done is private is fine but don't put your horse up for anyone to breed too if you don't want just anyone to breed to them.
As to buddy chat rooms, sure you can put rules on your horses in there. But under most circumstances you can't enforce those. It is up to the stallion owner to only place horses for breeding in buddy chats with members they want breeding to that horse. You put your stud up in a big public chat room to everyone you need to expect what you get. Most players have rules with straws hence why I put them as well.
Again why public rules are not allowed. And why I am not a fan of those "recommendations" Rules became a thing that players only put on their horses to fit in because "everyone" was doing it. It's not friendly, and it just makes for cliques. Don't put rules on your horses just because others are. ;) If you really think you NEED them fine, otherwise no point in having them.

If I'd seen this post the other day... I saw a horse or two with rules for public breeding... I can't remember what I searched, I think Silver Blue Roans or something...or Silver in general... And it really turned me off. I truly wanted to breed to him, loved him, but didn't want to breed to a stallion with rules, and risk breaking them... I don't have rules for anything of mine... Breeding, sales, etc, whatever... I don't.Love,
Spry -
Send me a PM if you remember more, June. Also remember that horses up in private chat rooms are allowed to have conditions placed on breeding, so maybe you saw one in a chat room? :-*
-
@ConfluenceFarms
I don't think... I almost never check chatrooms, and the place that told his cost (next to the breed to this horse button) didn't say Via Chatroom or whatever. I'll try to remember, and let you know. :)
I may do a random search in a sec and see if I was correct on it being silver or maybe Champagne now that I think about it.
Ah... Wait. Can't search for breeding, since breeding season is over. Lol
Sorry, I looked what I could have sworn it was... Can't find it... My memory is terrible, so simply pardon my lack of remembering half of everything...Love,
Spry -
The only "rule" I have on mine is to run performance testing on the foal. That's really the only thing that actually affects my account (I like to see where my guys are on the Breeder's club lists). Other than that, breed what you want to who you want. Get a 3C colt who happens to have all the genetic goodies you were looking for? Turn off testing and use him to your heart's content. Want to bootstrap? Go for it. I just like seeing my guys' offspring out there and being enjoyed by their owners :)
-
I have rules for my guaranteed straws but only guidelines for the rest.
So at the of the day they can breed how they want and not really going to chase people down if they dont follow the guidelines as we all breed differently :D●▬▬▬▬▬▬๑۩۩๑▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●
