Ever come to those weird transitions?

I got to a point where I was happy with my studs' quality and the colors they had for my main line a while back, unfortunately apparently at all about the same time. In the past two or three months I have lost most of my major studs for gens 1-3, and my second third and second gen boys are due to go too now. In a couple months my first and main fifth and fourth gen studs are going to age out as well. So long I haven't been able to get goos even boys better than my main studs, and now as they are dropping like flies I am jumping through colts trying to get good replacements up in line. Think I got all the gens but third stabilized once all the original guys leave now. Just looking at the old boys and new boys and know my lines are going to shift in dominant colors now. It isn't a bad shift (Rate of rabicano or brown or sooty plus, they are still going to be in my color spectrum, but it will be different) Anybody else get to times like these? Like the parting of the ways/ last farewell sort of thing?

Thank you for this, I too have been pondering how to proceed now that my originals are passing. My herd isn't as established as yours, but a plan was still needed. My w8 boy did survive rollover and I did pull too many straws lol.ID #21047Thanked by 1Dinascar

It is so sad when you lose your main guys. I'm close to losing mt 2nd gen DP brown guy who I love and has been a bit of a backbone for my DP brown herd.

I have pulled straws but my guys will go on when he passes just with a different twist.Thanked by 1supersarah -
Yeah. If you have any backlog of unsorted or undecided colts I'd suggest start looking through it now. That's what I'm doing with mine, plus am going to pay closer attention to the colt crop this month. haha. My side lines are ok, and it looks like I should be able to fill in the gaps for my main line well enough with young studs, so have a year before I repeat this scenario. Just a whole lot of new studs. haha
Foundation stud, I an so used to juggling between 4 or 5, this will be strange. haha
Lokis Jest

It’s perfectly normal for tastes to change and herds to evolve from their starting point. When I started I bred blacks and chocolate palominos. Then I found grullos and ran the 3 lines for a while. After I time I started focusing more on my grullos and started to let the blacks and palominos fade out until now I’ve been breeding just grullos for about 5 years

Thanks. Tastes have staid the same, just all my good boys are passing out. lol. Need o find replacements for them.

Your Drums of Trenzalore boy is lovely, a good replacement for his sire too!
