I'm curious - what is the benefit of having multiple rare and super expensive horses? You can collect eggs from mares and straws from stallions, so, given enough HB's, their reproductive capacities are huge. Is it so you can GM them different ways?
I'm still learning all the subtle strategies - like creating a horse young so you can GM it - just learned that one!

Same reason people collect anything. It's mostly just hoarding. :D

For Yule Logs, for example, dark Brown horses were very rarely created, and even DHHs were rare. We buy Yule Log mares so that our brown studs have a better chance of producing brown foals, and so that we don't waste GMTs on what might be a subpar mare. Also, Brindle. Brindle has a slightly better chance (out of a SUPER RARE one) of reproduction with two brindle parents, or even one. It very rarely also crops up with two non brindle parents. But RSs also have the guaranteed quality to them, which makes them desirable. You can also find regular colored horses in the Foundation Rescue (user #13), but they won't necessarily be interesting.
And since straws are a Basic upgrade feature and pulling eggs is a Premium one, that means that only Premium players wouldn't have to buy so many, and Basic players still need to if they want more.

Ah -thanks! I had forgotten that non-premium accounts can't do flushes. And I get the Yule log thing - I am rapidly becoming an At fan.
(The ASIP gene exists in dogs as well, and has similar alleles.)

I have a premium account, but I am still guilty of ~~hoarding~~ Gathering multiple copies of certain horses. I try to capitalize on the benefits of pasture breeding as much as possible, so I don’t do a lot of straws/Embryos - especially for my own horses. They seem a more expensive route that results in higher rates of altering. Also, even though there’s no in-game penalty for it, I try to avoid in-breeding. There’s no practical purpose, I realize, other than adds a level of self-imposed challenge to the game. So, for me, it’s more practical to have multiple Freaky Friday’s than it is to have one and use straws.

All three names are correct depending on the context. John, John Smith, Mr. Smith are all correct names for a person. Depends on how it's getting used.

ASIP is a super old gene. Found in all mammals that I know of.

Yep - "Agouti" is what we call the gene in dogs too. Ay (red), At (black and tan), a (recessive black) and Aw (wolf grey) are the alleles of that gene in dogs. Ay is dominant over all the others, though AyAt usually results in a red dog with black tips on the end of the hair shaft. The gene causes banding of the hair shaft, which leads to cool effects on the coat. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same in horses.

Because I like them! :) so far yule logs are my absolute favorite, but I have yet to see all the RS, so that may change in the future but who knows. I have a goal to have at least one of each RS that's possible to obtain, just for fun. When I get an RS HH I try to make one of each gender just for fun :)

For me, I just like having Silver Pocket Watches! I adore the looks of them. They breed true which means the babies will look like the parents without GMT being necessary, and while I could pull one egg from a single mare, I could get ten eggs from ten mares, etc. Plus, with one warmblood stallion and mare I can get more or less average size babies, but with a warmblood, a draft, a riding horse, a cob, etc etc, I get all ranges of sizes. Plus each one displays the splash a different way, and they’re all so pretty!

...so really it’s just hoarding. :D

If you want your brain to explode, look at the agouti alleles in goats. There's like twenty or something crazy. :))

For me, i wanted "one of everything", and I got that now (except diamond age). But there are certain ones that I have several of because I like the genes they carry and the quality guarantee is quite nice. I have multiples of most of the RS that have DP, Pearl, W2 and/or At because I breed those colors. I also have multiples of Texas Tea, Bring Back The Sun and The Darkest Night because: Black Brindle :x

I'm a Yule Log fan too :) Also I love brindle - only really guaranteed in some RSs.
And to be fair it's like kids with sticker books - we want all the pictures :)
This new RS really appeals as Chocolate Pearl is a color we really love and now it's an RS too (with brindle) we are drooling.

Also, just thought of it, most of mine are my own creates. I've been here over a year, so I've had time to accumulate quite a few special events and lucky rerolls. :)

Yep. Look at genetics of goats. There are like 9 different alleles that are present or not to determine shade of recessive pangery. Do you know how crazy trying to breed for a certain shade of red is???

I love the RS because they allow so many opportunities with different mares/stallions. I just got a Catch a Blue Moon and he is so beautiful. I will definitely be using him in my Blue Roan line. Plus I can later sell his straws if he proves to produce quality stock.

Are all RS of the same type of identical breeding quality? They all have PT scores at the top of their range, so I assumed they were all either at the 100% breeding level or the 105%, depending on type.

WhiteMountain yes. Unless they’ve been boosted, all Rank Specials of a given type have the same breeding ability,

The one exception I have to mention is that Exceptional Foundations didn’t really exist on HJ2 until relatively recently (I think less than 2 real life years). So, if you some how got ahold of some straws from a really really old stallion (and they’re floating around in some of our freezers, so that is a possibility) 99% of those guys from way way back are all only PF quality.

Some RS's are perfect foundation, and some are exceptional breeding quality. You can tell by either papering them, or what era they were created in. Freaky Fridays for instance, and Kings Ransom, are perfect foundations and created in the newest era

My quick and dirty method is to look at the ERA number. It it's 5 they are PF, if it's 4 they are EXP. It works for recentish creates, anyway.
