Leveled Off

What does it mean when a horse levels off?
-
Have you seen horses with PT scores? That's the number of their age when they level off, and it just means that they won't train anymore past that number. It has no effect on breeding. :)
-
Thanks!
If it's a mare- should I continue to train and show or leave in pasture? Or can you show horses that are in pasture?
Lots of question from the newbie -
The pt is actually based on their innate training ability. Nothing to do with age. They do keep gaining after leveling off but just very slowly.
The more you show the more points you get and the more money you make every week. Pasture horses can not be shown.

Msolomonor--
You should train all of your horses every week, whether you have them in the pasture or not. You never know when you might decide a mare isn't up to snuff as a baby maker and decide to turn her into a show pony! Horses can train in the pasture, just not show.
As for whether you should keep showing her or not, that question takes a little thought. All horses that are in a show except for the one that places dead last gain some amount of points, more if they place high in the class and less if they place lower. They also win some prize money but that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, the points are where you will make your money in the game. See, for every 4 points that horses you currently own hold, you make 3 hbs/week in showing bonus. It's paid to you along with whatever your weekly salary is at the weekly rollover on Saturday night. If you're just starting out, that bonus may not be very much at all, but over time and as you gain points and more room for more horses, you may get to the point where you're earning hundreds of thousands of hbs a week.
So, if you have a limited amount of space for horses in your barn, I would look at her Records page to see where she is placing at the shows at her current level. If she's placing high, I would keep showing her every week. If she's placing at or near the bottom of the class, you might think about retiring her to the pasture and replacing her with a mare that is doing better in the show ring. Obviously every point counts, but if you have very limited space then I would try to maximize your point earning potential. That's just me, though. Others may tell you differently!

I highly second the advice Cheers has given you. And, even when a horse levels off in a bad showing place, keeping it around will still be a benefit if it has a fair number of points, because it will still be adding to your weekly income.De gustibus non disputandum. Thank you! I might just put her in pasture right now for the extra room. I'll keep training her and breed her, but she has never placed well in showing.
-
Can you provide a link to her? If she's younger than 8 and already leveled off, it means her PT score must be quite low and that's why she's not showing well. If I (or someone else) could examine her record, we might be able to give more specific advice.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Awesome thank you. I just have the basic account, so I have no idea what her PT score is.

Thanks for the link. It looks like she leveled up into 4N on March 20, when she was still 5 years old. She's now 6, and her show scores look pretty stable between 34 and 36, and her placement ranges from 1st to 4th in a class of 5. She came in 3rd twice. Since the beginning of April, when I'm assuming the "leveled off" tag was added to her record, she has earned 13.5 points. That's not a lot, certainly, but if you keep showing her, she will probably continue to add points to her total, so I would definitely keep on showing her. She been pretty lucky and hasn't been coming in last in the class. While she might do that from time to time, she doesn't yet show a pattern of consistently placing last.
I would estimate her PT score to be somewhere in the 5.? to 6.? range. Not great but not a complete dud, for sure. I once had a mare with an even lower PT score. She was a great brood mare, though and papered Red.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
