should i use GMT on These guys?
-
So i have two foals from a dance between two oceans, and i was wanting to know what i should do with them. Im definately gonna GM them, but im not sure what to add/ or take away! I was thinking of changing their bone weight to draft (can i even do that? I have no idea lol) and i kinda wanna add and extra copy of pearl to both of em, but i have no idea what else to do. Do you guys have any ideas? :)
*also, i need some name ideas for both of them!*

I'm not too sure how high you can push these boy's bone weights. I bred mine to a draft and got a warmblood with a bone over 2, but that was a big boned draft whereas your girls were warmbloods.
Please keep in mind that for lined horses you can only gmt on whatever the parents have. So for the Dance Freaky Stud you could gmt him hom dp and remove the champagne, but you can't make him hom pearl as mum didn't have a copy.
For SMTM he basically got everything from his mum and dad that he could, so if you gmt him you'd have to remove stuff.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Thank you @ObsidianKitsune. I thought that for some weird reason since the sire had pearl, i could add a second copy. I also didnt know if there is any restrictions to the size that you could change them to

You can only GMT lined horses to things that they could have inherited from their parents. Because of this, you are unlikely to be able to make either one into a draft since Dance Between Two Oceans is a riding horse and the dams are warmblood and riding horse. Even if one had a draft for a dam, the heaviest you could likely get is warmblood. You also will not be able to add another pearl to either one since neither mare has it. Sorry.I was jllewis on the old forum.

Although like I said you could make one a black chestnut. DBTO has dp in him so all you'd need to do would be to remove the copy of champagne and dun that the colt has, and then maybe add on the dp if DBTO isn't hom (all I know is that he carries it). Or you could leave the dun on for a lighter hom dp boy.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

You could probably increase the bone on them, but not all the way to draft, if you click on that GMT it will tell you what bone weights are possible and you can see how much heavier you can get. I got a heavy foal from DBTO but I bred to a cob. Your colts are both only C papered too so if you are going to spend all that money doing some gmt work, maybe a boost to B paper too?
Just had a look DBTO had 3 heavy foals (but to heavy mares), but quite a few more very close to heavy boned

Yeah, im thinkin about boosting them both- im not too sure tho. The thing is, i dont really breed for warmbloods/sports ponies, so i dont wanna boost them if they arent drafts if that makes sense.
Actually, you know what, i might just boost them.. and maybe take off the frame from the second horse, and call it a day.Thanked by 1kintara -
You can't take off the frame of the second horse, as mum is a non-gmted Freaky Friday. Which means she's hom frame and all of her foals will be het for it.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Unfortunately you can’t take the frame off the second colt. His mom is Hom for Frame (Freaky Friday’s always are unless someone GMTs them) so he will have to stay het Frame.
One more option you might consider, especially if you don’t think you’d need them for lots of breedings, is to consider making them mares. This costs 2 GMTs for a sex change, but it’s a option!Thanked by 1kintara -
Dang, really? If it wasnt already obvious im not that inclined when it comes to things like this, so thanks for pointing it out guys. Im still learning :)
@Cheers thats a really good idea! I just might change the second colt to a female then, and they'll both become a breeding pair. -
It’s hard to think through all of the possibilities, Maria! I hope we’ve helped you think it through. Remember you have until they turn 5 or have their first foal/you pull the first egg/straw(whichever you do first) to make your changes, so don’t feel pressured to decide right this minute!
