Too Many Mares?
-
Hi,
I believe I might have too many mares. I was wanting to cut down on how many I have but im not sure how I should go about it.
My goal for my lines are Splash and Appaloosas warmbloods with high everything and make good mares, stallions, and show ponies. Im currently using BootStrap Breeding to get some show ponies and start my show pony lines.
I was wondering if anyone could take a look at my stables and give me some feedback. -
I would start by papering the lined mares that you like the look of. And use your strict breeding advice to weed out those mares that are not moving your herd forwards. Be warned though SBA may spey some pretty girls. Do NOT use any breeding advice on your bootstrap girls. If you like the look of those girls you think will fail SBA you could turn testing off and put them in your bootstrap herd. If you are using bootstrap breeding for breeding stock - if using just for show ponies it does not matter.
Just to start with :) -
PS You can never have too many mares, only too many of the wrong mares :D

Providing a link (or an ID#) makes everything easier and especially helps people who play on mobile devices.
My suggestion is to go through all your mares and examine any that don’t help your Splash and Appy goals.
I love spreadsheets lol so I’d make a few lists of all the mares.
1. Mares that are your dream goal already
2. Mares that are almost to your goals but with careful selection of studs will produce your dream goals
3. Mares that with the right stud could meet your goals
4. Mares that you have left over.
Snip the leftovers then maybe divide the 3rd group up into sub groups of how close they are to fitting into the second group and snip the ones farthest from your goal and work through until you have your numbers down enough.
I’m not sure if you are bootstrapping for your breeding stock or just for show stock but I believe the practice is to run the boys through breeding advice as foals and once you’ve reached the point you feel like you’ve got enough mares you run your mares through breeding advice and see how many you have left so that could be another option. -
I also agree with ChiliFire that you can never have enough mares lol

What Is the Profit part of the SpreadSheet? I have two mares that are in the - .
