Bootstrapping is...um...effective

This wasn't even actually an attempt to bootstrap! I bred a number of foundation mares to my star stallions in order to get a bunch of altered show horses. After none of them passed BA (as expected), I papered them and one of the fillies came up Gold. :O Out of a Yellow papered mare. Not going to complain. Now I have to unalter her but that's an acceptable sacrifice I think!

She even has color, not just white or all washed out with dilutions or anything, and no potentially lethal genes. And she carries satin. Now to wait for her to grow up!Thanked by 1Dinascar -
Her dad would be a very high Star to produce that! If you look at his lineage it's filled with Golds and Stars. Dark Star does produce some lovely horsesProducer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Yep! No faster way to get an awesome show string up and running.

If you want a good tip, once you clear out your bootstrapping pasture BA ONLY the boys. What you want to do with the girls is use BI to see their paper. Then select the girls you want to keep via paper, do the rest of the testing MINUS BA, and then turn off testing for every single one. In 3 months time they'd be ready to pop out more show babies themselves.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Oh I know that, and I did that with another set that I really WAS trying to bootstrap. This group was purposely to make a bunch of altered show horses though...and of course, THAT'S the group that produced the Gold. Go figure. :)Thanked by 1kintara

Once I had a boy that compared aga an even fifth gen early star, and he produced gold with an exceptional producer... But not a yellow. Good job! And it is amazing what you can do with any sort of star bootstrap, but yes, Dark Star horses are divine.

I just got another Gold from him. :) This one was from a perfect foundation:

This time I decided to go ahead and pay for breeding inspection so now I don't have to unalter her too.
I was going to use up his breedings this year on my random foundations, but now I think I'm going to save up the last few for my blue mares that have been sitting in the pasture. I was going to try to breed them to a stallion at their paper level but in this case I'll sacrifice a few!
This stallion was a 3200 hb auction buy so I guess it pays to dig around there! -
The first thing I check for every auction is if there are any Dark Star horses up. lolJusta ~ ID# 44842
