What makes a Perfect Foundation?
-
So I know that the perfect foundation HH is 100% breeding ability and training ability. I just invested in PTing all my foundation mares and several from normal HHs have a PT of 9.9. I know their PT is technically unrelated to their breeding ability, but does this indicate that they are PFs?ID# 43830

Sadly it does not. In foundations pt has no bearing on breeding ability at all. I've have a few exceptional producers pt in terrible places if I recall correctly.
The only way to know if a foundation is PF quality is if they either have the tattoo or if they have been through the foundation rescue.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

Ok, so next question: I have some very special foundation straws and I'd like to make sure goals pass BA as much as possible. How woukd you pick which mares to use beyond TNP or PF status?ID# 43830

I was under the impression that any horse that tested 9.9 IS a PF. I remember a discussion from a year ago explaining this.DivineDreams ~ 30908

I can't seem to find that discussion in the links list. Does anyone have it bookmarked?ID# 43830

No. We aren't able to see the breeding ability numbers, so we can't know if a horse has perfect breeding ability unless the tattoo tells us so, or the foundation rescue has picked up the horse.. 100% breeding ability AND a perfect PT score of 9.9 makes a horse a perfect foundation.

And perfect consistency as well! :)De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
