Introduction round 2 now that peer group is up :) I grew up loving horses (don't think I can recall a time when I wasn't). Been riding just as long until recently when a health condition caused the dr to say no more riding anything but the most broke of broke and no more jumping (I feel like I should sing no more monkeys jumping on the bed whenever I say it). Prior to that I'd been working with my friends very green Andalusian mare, before that I've owned both an Argentinian Thoroughbred (bit more stocky then the American/English counterpart since they are bred mostly for polo instead of racing) and a red roan appy mare who by the time she was 8 looked more like a few spot leopard (roaned out to almost completely white)
I joined HAJ because I've been looking for a solid horse-related game to take some of the sting out of that. So far I'm addicted and it's only day 5, stayed up most last night making a spread sheet to plan my breedings out for the next couple months to help keep my lines even. I hope to specialize in darker Colors, RS and Fantasy genes and eventually hold predominately gold/star stock (but that has a bit to go before I get there)
I'm currently owned by a ragdoll cat named Zigen, a hedgehog names Saskia and various fishes that don't have names. My roommate also likes to joke that I'm co-owned by his husky/shepherd and shepherd mix, Luna and Hamilton. I think he's right about Luna but Hammy is Jacks dog all the way.
I never mind making friends but I can usually be shy/quiet/nervous about it so I can come off as an idiot who word vomits and usually don't make sense. If you want to be friends feel free to shoot me a message. Some of my fandoms, if you need a topic to talk about are Dr.Who, Torchwood, Sherlock, Supernatural, Lost Girl, Orphan Black, Harry Potter, Firefly, NCIS and Criminal Minds. I'm also a major bookworm so books are always a safe topic.
Initially I was semi confused about some of the genes, still trying to keep track of whats a closed gene and how to go about obtaining closed genes... but I've also discovered there are some amazingly awesome people on here that will gladly try and help you to succeed, even if you feel like your asking the stupidest question.
Coke or Pepsi... honestly neither I don't drink much soda and when I do it's either Sprite/7up or Rootbeer a (Henry Winehards is the preferred).
If you read all of this, shiny!

So, uh, hi I suppose?
Literally just joined and already blew all my cash buying pretty horses. I haven't played a sim in a long time, but this looks like fun! Especially the no daily slog of caring for the horses.
I don't own any horses in real life, but hope to someday. I'm currently sharing my life with 5 cats, 2 dogs, 2 rats, and 30 chickens. Hopefully turkeys soon too! -
@LittleMonsters Welcome to HJ2. :) Its easy to blow all your cash on pretty horses around here!God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

Hello there.
I've been a horseaholic as long as I can remember, became the owner to one Appendix thoroughbred/quarter horse mix (Cash) and an older half blind quarter horse(Lady) in 2014. Both of them are mares. Once they were a healthy weight I rode Cash until I had an accident in Oct. that wound me up in the emergency room. Hard way to learn you don't know how to ride. Been trying to build up the courage/nerve ever since. In 2016 my dad thought it would be a good idea to breed them and got a stud (for free. Guinea pig practice basically with just a promise for pictures if he did produce) without my full consent and now I have two fifteen month old babies as well! Gideon and Marebelle. Doing what I can/learning as much as I can for training them because that's what I want to do. I'll stop, I could talk about my four horses all day.
I joined HAJ because I've been looking for a good horse Sim for a long time that's fair to even people who can't pay a lot of money. Also horse genetics fascinate me.
I'm officially owned by one tuxedo kitty, Ace, my four horses, and a puppy who lives out at my dad's place, a Lab/Pitbull mix named Bowser. The other four dogs and three cats there adore me. At home we have another black cat and dog.
Always up for new friends, though I am a terrible introverted homebody so I don't have much practice with socializing. If I say something that sounds off or confusing you must forgive me :)
I have a friend who introduced me to HAJ who has been kind enough to answer my questions on the game so far, but there's a lot here and I'm sure I'll come across something confusing haha. I'm trying very hard not to spend all my money on horses. It's difficult.
Coke, but I prefer Dr. Pepper.

@TacetLupus I hope you end up enjoying the community. I also hope you get back up on the horse, the longer you go without getting back up the harder it can get to do it. As a former competitive rider (3 Day Eventing, Dressage, Show Jumping and even cross disciplined and did Barrel Racing and Pole Bending) even the pros hit the ground more than you would think and I'm sure we can agree they know how to ride. If you really don't think you know you can usually find group lessons offered at local stables more often than not and the group lessons usually aren't to costly. :)God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

@CeffylDwr I have really bad anxiety regarding riding now, group lessons aren't a bad idea. Anxiety isn't as bad as before, I have gotten on a few times though not at all the last two years, what with the pregnancies and the babies. I will say I've learned much since everything happened in 2014, was one of those things where everything I thought I knew about horses went out the window lol.
Another problem is I'm not out there with them near enough, wish I could be with them every day.
I "ride" western myself, though not averse to trying English one day. I don't think I could do the outfit. I like bootcut jeans and loose shirts :)Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -
@TacetLupus I feel you I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder and they can definitely be tough to quiet. I shall keep my *fingers crossed* for you that you can quell it long enough to get back on your horses.
Hahaha the difference in outfits is an adjustment for sure. When I was little it was all western, pee wee games, rodeos the works. My aunt was the one who put my on a horse for the first time, threw me up bareback told me to grab her (no joke) QH mare named Ladys mane and stay on. She then proceeded to signal her into a canter. My aunt still only rides western and since she was the on to teach me those are my roots. Then life changes forced me into an all English barn summer before freshman year of high school. I learned in their world either you rode English or you didn't exist, so I did my best to adapt because horses were my escape I didn't want that ruined by the barn. Quickly became addicted to Jumping and then realized Dressage did so much to assist with my seat. They did however host various camps over the summer and people could rent out the arenas for events/classes so I got to try vaulting one week. That was crazy!God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.

@CeffylDwr Oh gosh, that does sound terrible. I've been trying (or trying to get started anyway) a technique called "Tapping" or "EFT". It's helped me calm down when I thought I lost my debit card so I could remember where I left it.
I am very fortunate to have a pasture at dad's I can keep my horses in and not a barn. Quite a lot of freedom and a lack of judgement. Even western riders have certain expectations from some of the comments I'd heard (If she'd had spurs on she wouldn't have been bucked! for example. It was a simple accident). I also don't like my fam watching me because I feel (keyword there) like they expect me to know more than I do, like riding.
Ironically I have a fear of heights too, so I don't think jumping is in my future lol!
Your aunt sounds like an amazing person, wish I had known y'all when I was growing up.
Other news... next month we will hopefully (finally) get my round pen built. Only been asking for it for three years lol. Last year it uncharacteristically flooded when we were supposed to build it. This year is looking to be drought filled and atrociously hot.Thanked by 1ConfluenceFarms -

Hi
I've liked horses all my life
I am a female from the UK in my late teens
I am a big player on Howrse, and was told to come and try this game out. Seems okay so far, but I'm yet to understand it lol
I don't like either coke, or pepsi, or any of the brown fizzy drinks.
I have a few horses, they are my life and soul.Still fumbling around this awesome game :)
I want to make a line of Grullo Splash Appaloosa Rabicano, any help would be appreciated :)

@DoubleShowPonies, it should automatically show up now that you've posted in here, you should see a welcome pack barn listed as well as your primary barn. Welcome to HJ2
@Ellesmere022 'Ello and welcome to HJ2. Hope you end up liking the games as much as Howrse, if not better. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask here or in buddy chat. I've learned that even if the questions been asked a million times you've got some solid players on here who will do their absolute best to answer the questions. Heavily recommend reading through the FAQ User Guide. Tell us about your horses, you say you have a few?God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

Hello fellow horse enthusiasts,
I stumbled upon this game by accident, and I am hooked. Since my kids I haven't had a chance to have a horse anymore, or time to do horse back riding. This is perfect to enjoy whenever I have time.

Hello. I have loved horses my whole life. I've always ridden. I love riding so much that I had my leg amputated when I was 17 and I still ride! I still jump too. I am a grade 4 US para dressage rider just waiting for my moment to compete internationally :)
I used to play HAJ but stopped for a while. I dont know why I think I got distracted and busy. I am happy to see all the new changes and i'll probably be an upgraded member again.
I have two cats, named Spyro and Zojja. I have a half-draft paint sporthorse named Shaman. I used to do three day eventing with him but since my amputation now we just do para-dressage and jump no bigger than 2 feet.
I'm always looking for new friends. I am a full time biology student in Texas and i'm shooting for med school so I dont socialize much outside the internet.
I'm not confused about anything. My undergrad is in molecular biology which is dun dun duuuuuun.... mostly genetics. Which is one of the reasons I decided to join again because I love doing punnett squares for some reason. I'll probably pursue human genetics or gene therapy in med school (if they accept me of course)
Coke, but specifically Mexican Coke. It's the stuff down here that's in the glass bottles and use real cane sugar. It tastes different I swear and it's like crack you want to drink like 5 at once.
My name is Sarah btw. -
@StrobelEnterprises Welcome (back) :) That's rough about the amputation but awesome that you've continued pursuing riding! One of the best competitors I knew growing up was an amputee and she kicked butt in competitions, still is last I heard. I love hearing about others that are doing that, you go girl!
Good luck in Med School as well!
Ooh yeah Mexican Coke is quite different from the American version. American coke is just plain nasty :-&God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,

Hi! I joined HuntAndJump because it has two things that I'm interested in. Horses and genetics. I've looked everywhere for something like this and I am truly loving it. Currently I only own cats and rats for pets, but would like to own horses sometime in the future.
-
Hi all! Really love this game, look forward to really digging in!
-
Welcome to you all. I'm a fairly old hand at this game--since 2011 in HaJ 1 and 2013 for HaJ2. I'm always willing to "talk your ear off" (type your eyes blind?) explaining the game, so feel free to message me at any time, if you feel embarrassed about asking questions in the open forum.
Of course, there's no need to feel that way. We all started out more than a bit lost when faced with this complex game. In fact, I steered my genetics loving, Biology major college graduate daughter to the game when I first discovered it, then spent 8 months watching over her shoulder, fascinated, while she played before starting my own account. :D
If you do post your question in the open forum, and I give you a wordy answer that contains an error (this is still known to happen from time to time), Ammit will find it easy to stop by and correct my faulty guesses. (Thanks, Ammit.)De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Okay, so I've played the game for a few days now and I seem to be getting a basic understanding. I feel as though I'm playing the game completely wrong though as I can only spend 1/2 hour or so before there is nothing left to do...
Is there a guide somewhere for new players to get a grasp for how to earn money and how to play properly? It's been a log time since I've started a new game as I've always been devoted to Howrse so I can't really remember how to even learn XD
Also, I have a Welsh section A named Toby. He is 21 going on 4 (a naughty little sausage). He is chestnut with great big white stockings. He's developed pretty white flecks and oil marks (can't remember what they are called) in his old age so he is gorgeous. I also have a flea-bitten/dapple grey Connemara called Danny. He is a 14 year old ish ex-dressage horse. He is nicknamed the Grumpy Old Man. Need I say more? Haha.
I love games that have a nice community, so looking for that in this game. I also loved genetics back when I was in school, so if I could learn more through this game, it would be amazing :)Still fumbling around this awesome game :)
I want to make a line of Grullo Splash Appaloosa Rabicano, any help would be appreciated :)

@Ellesmere022
I think we started on the same day and I am in the same boat as you. I am finding the learning curve here extremely steep but am enjoying the challenge.
I have only played on one other pet site and that one had a few extensive and extremely detailed FAQs and Guides (mostly made by players). I was so used to that that I found myself very lost here.
But, in saying that, there is a ton of information in the forums once you figure out the search and I have found everyone here extremely helpful and supportive so far. It is truly a wonderful community.
Have you seen the “Links List” put up by Confluence Farms yet? Or Ammit’s “Important Links”? I have found both extremely helpful.
If anyone knows where I can find a good in-depth (but newbie friendly) guide to wrapping my head around all these genes I would love them forever. :xID# 47364

@Ellesmere022 You're about on the right track, timewise, for someone just starting to play this game. When you have just a few horses, there truly isn't a lot to do with them, once you've trained them for the week, shown them twice, and done what breeding is possible with a small herd. Once you've played long enough to be regularly increasing your herd size, it can become difficult to find the time to do all that is necessary.
I think it took me about half a real-life year before I had so many horses that I was spending hours figuring out when I should show them and recording their results. That's when I moved to the Premium Upgrade so that the game took care of the weekly showing for me. That was long before the showing bonus was added to the game, and cash prizes only brought in more than the entry fees for the top half of the class. With the showing bonus based on the points awarded for places in the show, that worry has disappeared.
There's really no one correct way to play Hunt and Jump. I'm a fairly casual player, easily distracted by new genes, rarely getting a line beyond the third or fourth generation before it gets lost in the shuffle. That's because I'm a serious hoarder. I'm strict in neutering my colts, but not so good at doing the same with my mares. Other players concentrate on a limited color and/or pattern they want to breed and work hard to get the line to produce *Star colts and *Gold fillies. My favorite occupation in the game is helping new players get started. *G*
Here's a post from the HaJ1 forum about making money in the game.
Just wanted to put a notice up for all the new players out there!
Always low on funds? Looking for a way to earn a few HBs to grow your stable? Look no further! The answers you seek are right here, under your very nose!
The way to keep your stable running in tip top shape is with show horses. You know the ones - those spayed and gelded foals you drop in the auction for quick cash or the ones you put up for sale cheap to clear out some stall space! I, too, was a quick cash junkie before I discovered the joys of a show herd that earns its keep and more.
I know what you are thinking - "But I don't have the space for all those horses and what is the point if you can't breed them?" Let me assure you, Grasshopper, those stalls they take up are your hidden gold mines! Each point your horse has = money in the bank. Your horse can only earn points by competing in shows. When the show is completed, your horse earns points based on its final placement in the show. A certain percentage of the points you earn is given to you EACH DAY by way of the "daily showing bonus". For instance, at this moment on my stable overview page, it says -
You currently hold 2,875,476 points.
You earn a 205,391 hb's daily bonus from showing. (caveat - I've been playing and showing for quite a while, so it takes time dedication to get to this point)
What this means is that EVERY DAY, when I log in, I've earned over 200k just by showing horses.
Let me break it down in terms of what your showing bonus can get you. If you click the link to the left that says "Upgrades & Extras," then click the "Upgrade with game money" you will see a screen called "Investment Voucher Page." Pay attention, folks, cause I'm about to blow your mind! Your hbs can be converted into IVs at the rate of $12,500 per IV. This may seem expensive to a new player with a small stable, but it is an excellent use of your money to purchase IVs. With IVs, you can buy all sorts of amazing things, such as (drum roll, please)...
1. Upgrades to your stable account- Yopu heard me right - You can purchase a Basic upgrade with 30 IVs. This upgrade gives you more stalls, more pasture space AND more moolah for your weekly pay! If you have a hard time saving up for that many IVs, you can also purchase a basic upgrade with actual money (Well worth it, IMO, but certainly not necessary to fully enjoy this awesome game).
2. Barns! You can purchase barns with IVs. More barns = more horses = more earnings!
3. Gene Modification Tokens (GMTs). These are awesome for turning your foundation horses into the horse of your dreams or tweeking a lined horse (a horse which has parents visible in the pedigree) that maybe missed the gene you really wanted from one of its parents. More GMT information it located to your left in the "Advanced Facilities" link.
4. Boost tokens. These are a great way to give your so/so mare or stallion a little nudge into a higher level. While I 'm definitely a fan of the boost tokens, I would recommend newer players to hold off on them until they get the hang of the game and learn the ins and outs of breeding, because it can get super expensive very quickly!
And one of my personal favorite things to do with IVs
5. Tack Packs! I can't even begin to tell you how fun it is to dress your ponies up in all sorts of customized tack. Due to the efforts of Ammit and several amazingly talented members of the game, we have so many new and exciting options when it comes to tack. We've got English, Western, Draft pack, Sheets/Blankets, Holiday themed packs, incredible varieties of backgrounds, as well as spectacular mane/tail and coat options. You can do all sorts of crazy things to your pixel ponies!
Now, I know I've gotten long winded here, but bare with me, because this final detail is going to be the most important one. If you are a new player and would like to start a show herd of your own, this game has such a great community that they have even created a buddy chat room for you! In the "Available to Adopt" chat room, members have selected horses from their own show barns to donate to new players. These horses have a significant point total (usually 500+ points) and will help you start out on your way to growing your own stable, one hb at a time! By clicking this link http://www.huntandjump.com/buddy_chat.php?chatid=19 you can ask to be added to the chat and from there, you can read the instructions on the right hand side of the page to get a bit of a kick start to your showing journey!

@BlackWyld
The Genetics Guide gives a lot of information about genetics in the game, although the game gets updated more often than the guide. Players sometimes try making a list in the forum, but I'm not sure it ever gets completely done. I will PM you with genetic information, though I'm not sure it will be "newbie-friendly." Horse color genetics is a complex field and gets more complex as the scientists figure more of it out.
