I have been going through my barns and trying to widdle down my breeding stock as much as I can. Unfortunately I've encountered quite a number of horses that I don't feel confident snipping and have far too many points to sell. I will never use these horses as breeders myself so I was considering putting the lot up for stud/brood/straws but I don't want to go through the trouble with horses no one is interested in breeding to. I've seen a lot of you all put horses up for breeding, how do you all decide which ones get that treatment? One of the things I was considering is putting the list up and having players vote on ones that they would breed to, even hypothetically, and keeping the popular votes.

Just the answer the possible questions that may arise: The horses in question have no super special genes. I've snipped all my inconsistents except for a couple. They all have at least one of the following genes: Roan, Tobiano, Splash 1, and Frame, which are genes I'm trying to pull away from. I'm not considering selling these horses currently.

If a horse passes SBA and isn't inconsistent, I usually keep them a stud and put them up for the public. Some times if they're too small for my liking or if they're show results are lackluster I'll Geld them, but over all I don't keep track of their earnings that much. As long as they're earning me something I'm not worried about the amount, just depends how much time I have to sort through all of them. :) Usually about this point in the month is when I start if I decide to at all.

I have a barn full of studs and one of mares that I have listed at public stud/brood for the same reasons. I don't use them and they have too many points to sell, but i also don't want to alter for various reasons. Some of them get used, some of them don't. But I put them all up regardless, just because someone might use them. Even some of the plain ones get used on occasion.

I end up cutting a lot of studs, but my mares are getting to be a problem. If a colt doesn't have exactly what I'm looking for colorwise, or if I have a couple who are close to each other, I'll make the one with less white factor be a stud and snip the other. I breed a lot of horses that have lethal genes, so WF is a big deal for me. If they don't get a PT of where I think they should be, they go to auction. I still end up keeping probably 75% of what I breed during the year.

First I SBA. Then I check them for paper level. If they pass those two requirements I never snip them. Now I only put my best Prioritized by AFPT out in the pasture so everyone else goes to the barn to pull dual duty as a show horse and a breeder. Pastures get bred first and I will breed as many of the others as I have time/space for in the month prioritizing them by AFPT. I usually breed even but I'm thinking about starting to breed my lowest ones uneven so I can at least get good show ponies out of them. Also I've used a few of the higher AFPT ones to breed out to other player horses so I can make attempts to get genes in my herd that I don't have. I found this to be a better use for those mares than putting them up for brood. For my boys I just leave them stallys and put them up for stud. I don't always use everyone but I figure someone else might want to use them and I'm willing to share.
