Breeding Brindle?
  • Is it possible to breed brindle into your line? Or is it only a capture from the herd helper sort of thing? I have tried breeding two brindle horses, to no avail.
  • Brindle sadly isn't really inheritable. Every horse has a random chance to get brindle. The good news is that have brindle parents (only parents, grandparents don't count I believe) increases the foals chance of getting brindle! It's a very slim increase, but still some. Almost all brindles are happy little surprises that pop up.

  • You can breed them it's just like obsidiankitsune said a happy surprise most of the time!

In my 3 years of playing I've bred maybe 6 or 7 brindles. 2 of them being just this season lol. And my foundation herd is probably 75% if not more brindle!
  • Having one parent increases your chance a lot - I have never had one just pop up randomly in my own experience. It is hard to get them. I try to breed at least 10 (I have 19 brindle stallions of breeding age) 50 times every season and out of that 500 foals maybe one is brindle. I think that chance is slightly better with both parents but still extremely small.
I have bred one this season but 2 seasons ago I had 5. Good luck :)
  • I have decided to start an intense brindle breeding experiment. I will be keeping track of every gene I cross with brindle to see if maybe there is a combination that increases the chances. I have some brindles to start with and will let everyone know what if anything I find. I have my breeding log set on my tablet and will officially start with the new season in May. Wish me luck

  • I really doubt that will have any effect, Heavenly. I would bet that the algorithims are not written that way. I think it would be more of a random occurance (for foundations) and a teensy bump to the chance if one parent or the other is brindle, regardless of color.

That is, however, my opinion, and I am no computer wiz like our fearless leader!

  • @HeavenlyHooves - be prepared for disappointment. I think 1-2 in 1000 is probably all the chance you have.
But I wish you luck :)
  • I have a starting stock of 3 studs and 12 mares mostly RS but have gotten some brindles that aren't rs and even one that is 3rd gen brindle that had a rs grand that was brindle and nothing in between.
