Help me figure out what to look for
  • So I saw this handsome stallion and one point and fell in love with the contrasting stripes which remind me of a birch tree.

I realize he is a RS so it’s possible that I can’t duplicate the look. But if anybody can help me figure out to look for in other horses recreate this or something very similar I would appreciate the advice.
  • Aw, glad you love him as much as I do. I was actually going for a white tiger look when I was searching for one like him (he’s an homage to the Tiger’s Curse series, and I have a “brother” for him as well) but I certainly see the birch resemblance!

When I was looking, I found several regular brindles that were close, though not quite perfect. You might try looking through the brindle breakout tattoo name as well as the nanotech, if you’re wanting one similar.

As for breeding brindles, it’s not inherited like genes, unfortunately, though the chances are higher if the parents are brindles.

God grant me the hbs to buy the ponies I need,
The fortitude to resist the shiny ones I truly don't,
And the wisdom to know there will always be more next time.
  • I can see the white tiger look. I have managed to snag 2 brindles but they are bay and brown. I guess he will be a long term goal.
  • I look forward to seeing what you get! If you’d like a few straws from him, we could work something out as well. The brindle may not be genetic, but the other colors are, and putting him to brindle mares would increase your chances.

  • Would love to get some straws from him. I looked up tiger’s curse series I think the next time I get to a book store I will pick it up.
  • You totally should! Let me know what you think. I’ll PM you for straw details. :)

  • Some white patterns will do that with brindle. Several white spotted patterns, roan and rabicano seem to do this. You could get a black brindle and GMT some white patterns and see what happens. These are some of mine that are "white brindle" like this.

  • Thank you for your examples the first one is a beauty
  • Yes, she's one of my favorite. She's a White Wedding RS. You can usually find them pretty easily. The nanotech was a one time deal, if I remember right, and won't be available again.

Since brindle is hard to breed for, W3 can give a somewhat similar appearance. Like this one below:

  • @Haltanny any suggestions on white genes that might "stick" to brindle?
  • I think just about any would work, you might have to reroll the image a few times. I think White 1 and White 2 are the ones I see most often.
