What makes a line?
-
I plan on starting a lone using my Macchiato horses. But I'm also what I call " cheating a little bit" and using some red mare and a B stud to see how long it takes to get to star and gold from a middle point or an expro point!

Other people may have slightly different definitions, but for me a line is a set of horses I’m going to Breed over generations (evenly or bootstrapping) towards or within a specific goal color/pattern goal. (I try to always breed for high quality)
For my lines I start from foundations, I don’t tend to mix things up very much (for instance, my KP line is liver/chocolate S+ KP, so all my mares are red based with two Kit patterns and my stallions were DP S+ Hom KP, so all the foals are ideally suited to that goal). My Bootstrap line is harder because I’ve had to start with a relatively limited number of horses that have the genes that I want and still try to breed towards both a color and a quality goal.
If you start with Exceptional Foundations, you can hit Star/Gold by gen 4 if you cull hard and use the very best quality stallions you can get at each generation and utilize the pasture bonus.Thanked by 1Amgr1992 -
Thank you Cheers! I have some expros as well as some experfs so they are red, but all female so I'm using non foundation studs but I think they'll turn out just fine! I'm doing it as a little experiment :) and my macchiato lime will be from the ground up, if I can ever get the money from auction!
